The US Constitution established a secular democratic republic, so it has been more than 200 years since the situation you describe might have been in effect.
“One Nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible”…is still in the Pledge of Allegiance last I looked.

“Under God” was added in 1954.

And here I thought you were related to George Armstrong Custer :man_shrugging:t2:

Don’t worry, your plea shall receive my generous and benevolent consideration.

So what?

The Pledge is a ceremonial ritual created by a socialist in order to sell more flags.

The Constitution specifically says that the US government does not have a state religion.

“Under God” does not mention a “state religion”.

It mentions a single God, who is a feature of many religions and is also believed in by many who do not cleave to a particular religion.

In any event, with the number of court cases over the Pledge, you dismissing it as “so what?” is willful blindness. Our money has “In God We Trust” on it also.
The fact that these things persist despite legal challenges right and left shows that there is a pretty clear intent on the part of many for this nation to be “Under God”, again this is not under a religion, but “Under God”.

I find it interesting the OP hasn’t returned to comment on replies.

NO. The framers purposely left it vague, as many of them were deists. Christianity was the consensus religion then, so many principles were taken from it.

Those court cases established that people cannot be compelled to recite the pledge if they don’t want to.

And the courts have ruled that “In God We Trust” is mere ceremonial Deism.

And that many people want a thing to be true does not make it so.

The United States is a wicked nation that, while containing Christians, is mostly full of Atheists, practical Atheists, those who have spirituality but not religion (Same as Atheists, their god is themselves), fake Christians, etc. It is laughable to see these politicians get so outraged about children dying in Syria and refugee children dying but supporting the murder of babies in the womb. But who needs the wicked old Union? Remember that Christ never promised us an earthly Kingdom. Remember all the times and places the Church has been persecuted. Maybe Christianity enjoyed a little bit of popularity for a time and now it’s gone but that is irrelevant, we just need to worry about becoming Saints and leading others to become Saints. Quality over quantity an temporal power. Even Jesus couldn’t make everyone follow Him.

The Jewish God??..I never knew we were a Jewish nation…Christian nations…on the other hand… worship a Triune God…The Father…The Son…and The Holy Spirit

Have you read the Pledge prior to 1954? Allow me.

Pledge of Allegiance:
1892 (first version)
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

1892 to 1923
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

1923 to 1954
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

It is the same God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, whose nature was more fully revealed to us through the Christ.
