Speaking from the bible alone, God divorced Israel, even Judah, more than 2000 years ago for spiritual fornication. It says it right in the bible. Jesus said that he would hand the kingdom to those who produce fruit. So the “chosen people” claim makes no sense for modern Israel. I am speaking from the bible alone and not the external evidence.
Jesus only allowed divorce in the case of adultery, and marriage reflects the covenant. If there was spiritual fornication, as said by the prophets, how can the covenant still apply?
