I’m writing to let you know how deeply disappointed I am in American Girl’s association with Girls Inc., an organization that along side good programs for girls promotes abortion as just one of the “healthy choices” that is available to them if they want to be successful. As someone who has seen the effects of abortion on high school friends who are now in their thirties I know this to be a lie. I have watched friends battle eating disorders, chronic depression, and thoughts of suicide. Once they began having their “wanted” children and saw that little baby on the ultrasound the results have been guilt and devastation.

This “healthy choice” Girls, Inc promotes saddles many girls with a lifetime of nightmares and anti-depressants. These things are never explained as part of the promotion of abortion as a “choice” to girls. Why would an organization that wants to help girls be successful promote a “choice” that has devastated so many women? All you have to do is search the Internet and you will find web sites for those suffering from post-abortion syndrome. They all say, “Why didn’t anyone tell me it would be this way?”

Over the summer we purchased a Hopscotch Hill School doll for our daughter and were planning on purchasing an American girl doll for her for Christmas. Since we have discovered American Girl’s association with Girls, Inc. we will no longer be making any purchases from your company unless American Girl completely discontinues support to Girl’s Inc.

I would seriously reassess your ties to such a group that goes against the values of a large portion of your customer base. Many families in the Christian community have found your books and dolls a wholesome addition to their children’s lives. Through Christian message boards, forums, and email the information about your company’s association with a pro-abortion organization is spreading at lightning speed. I know I have forwarded this information to everyone in my address book and they in turn forwarded it to everyone in theirs. Believe me the pro-life community takes support of abortion very seriously and the will speak with their wallets.

Someone posted side information about the Komen foundation giving money to Planned Parenthood, just to let us know. Mattel (who owns American Girl and Barbie) has a Breast Cancer awareness Barbie, which donates money to this foundation. I think the poster who gave that information was trying to show us that we need to be careful where we donate our money, because just as the “I Can” promise from American Girl goes to “Girls Inc.” which promotes abortion, The Komen foundation has apparently given money to Planned Parenthood and does not give women medical information regarding the fact that Abortion is a risk factor for breast cancer.

We certainly do not believe that all breast cancer surviviors or people who donate to the Susan Komen foundation are pro- Choice, but those of us who are concerned about their affiliation with Planned Parenthood, and not giving women all the information regarding the higher risk of cancer after an abortion, may want to consider seeking out another breast cancer foundation. Information is power.

I feel a moral obligation to seek out pro-life medical organizations when I donate money. (not supportive of abortion or fetal or embryonic experimentation, cloning etc.)
Rather then giving your money to the Susan G. Komen Foundation who supports Abortion by giving some of the funds to Planned Parenthood, you are better off doing this…

If you would like to donate funds to BOTH Research Breast Cancer & Protect Lives in the Womb, here are a few options…
  1. Polycarp Research Institute (www.polycarp.org)
  2. Breast Cancer Prevention Institute (www.bcpinstitute.org).
  3. AbortionBreastCancer.com www.AbortionBreastCancer.com or by mailing us at P.O. Box 152, Palos Heights, IL 60463

Bravo! If they still don’t get it, they deserve to have their product sales plummet. They need to call up Warren Buffet over at Berkshire-Hathaway and talk to him about the sudden decision to change the corporate giving policy of Pampered Chef… all in reaction to a pro-life boycott threat of that product line.

Let’s keep them on the ropes people! We CAN make a difference!

Mattel launches designer Barbie clothes for women

NEW YORK (Reuters) — Toy maker Mattel Inc, known for Barbie fashion dolls, is expanding the plastic icon’s domain to include high-end designer clothing and accessories for adult women.

The merchandise, which includes jeans, shirts, handbags and jewelry, is designed by well-known fashion designers and will sell under the name Barbie Luxe.

This has been on the Girls Inc website since I started looking at their program… with one small change, they added a paragraph.

girlsinc.org/ic/intro.php
“our mission to help girls develop their self-esteem and self-reliance has become the target of false, inflammatory statements from people who are pursuing a narrow political agenda”
I only wish the mission and curriculum outlined on their website and explained by the people I contacted from their organization at their DC and NYC offices were false.

Sometimes the truth hurts and it is the *fact *that they promote aboriton, homosexuality and artificial birth control which I have a problem with.

It can’t be wrong for parents and grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends of girls to know that this organization has brewing under it’s surface, and to be able to make an informed decision about American Girl’s “I Can” program, and the level of participation they want to have with the company.

Sure, I could have looked at what Girls Inc does and justified to myself that they do alot of good despite the evil they promote. I could have looked at the “I Can” promise as a small part of the Good that American girl promotes, but I could never in good conscience ignore this reality, and could never bear the thought of contributing to the Culture of Death with my money. Evil has a way of hiding under a slick and shiney surface. I love girls to much to sit back while organizations like this creep into their lives.

Woo hoo!!!

Doesn’t their endorsement of Girls, Inc. as a whole make a silent statement that they support all of Girls, Inc.? Does to me!

Yep, me too. Am I understanding this all correctly? Girls Inc. has never met with protests from Pro-life /Pro-family organizations?

Barbie Clothes for women? :whacky:

From the time I was a little girl I couldn’t stand Barbie! I thought she was too “fake” looking.

Perhaps the clothing is for the women who have had many plastic surgeries in the attempt to look like Barbie, the false image they have in their head,of what a woman should look like. Perhaps imprinted from youthful Barbie doll obsession,

I can’t imagine many women buying these clothes, anyway.

Has anyone else thought of what a “happy accident” it was that we figured this out and spread the word all just before Christmas shopping? My daughter wanted this huge collection with two dolls. It would have been her only Christmas present from us and would have cost over $200, We were going to buy the bitty baby twins for our three year old with a stoller and accessories. Nearly all the purchases from our family would have come from American Girl.

I think getting the word out has been successful, in part, to the easy access to information on the Girl’s Inc. and American Girl websites. It has been really easy to send organizations like AFA, Focus on the Family, etc, as well as individuals, an email with the links they can look up themselves. I also think that conservatives are shocked and dismayed because many of us have been intentionally supporting the ideals that American Girl has promoted with wholesome historical toys. We had the wool pulled over our eyes.

This is taken from the Girl’s Inc. Website. I only included the things on the top ten list that trouble me… check out # 9. There used to be an “action link” for how to legislate for abortion rights, sex ed in schools, etc. but they recently removed it… I wonder if that is just a coincidence because it was there a few days ago. Perhaps they are trying to make their website more palatable?

Ten things you can do as a business or community leader to support girls’ rights
**
  1. Engage your professional colleagues in discussion about the Girls Inc. Girls’ Bill of Rights and Tips for Talking to Girls and how to help spread the concepts.
  2. Find out if your organization or company supports programs that empower girls; if not, advocate for it.
  3. Advocate for comprehensive, accurate information about reproductive health and sexuality for girls. If necessary, change the policies that schools provide comprehensive sexuality education in grades K-12. 10. Advocate for fair and safe juvenile facilities that adequately meet the needs of girls. Does your juvenile justice system understand the different needs of girls and boys? Here’s what else you can do:
Take action: Support comprehensive sex education.
Find resources: Check out more fact sheets about girls’ rights.

Peace:

I agree with you 100%. Thank God this news came out before Christmas shopping went into full swing.Check out the French dollmaker called Corolle. Here’s a link:

corolledolls.com/corolle_catalog/product_cat.php/subid=100/index.html

I was so disappointed with the facial sculpt and coloring (the doll sort of has a fronwn) of the Bitty Baby dolls that I returned the one I had purchased for my oldest daughter (and with it a diaper bag, several outfits {and I must say that what is fabulous about Bitty Baby is the clothing line, the Baptismal Gown was beautiful} and other accessories. AG refunded all of it with no questions asked). Now I have 15 inch Corolle dolls (and I have four of them, one for each daughter). Not only are the facial sculpts perfect, the dolls has a faint smile on her face, but the skin tones are lovely and the doll (at least at the time I bought my four daughters their dolls) had a soft vanilla scent to it. Lastly the doll’s clothe body was filled with beanie type filling, so it was a very huggable doll and sort of floppy like a real baby. And I have the 8" Corolle dolls too, and that’s where I get the accessories (stroller, bed, etc). When everything is small, it doesn’t take up so much room and it doesn’t cost as much. Click on the awards link on the side bar to see how well respected these dolls in the toy community.

And we traded our American Girl dolls for a German type of doll called a Waldorf doll. (Actually, we gave our AG dolls away last summer before any of this came to light, because I just felt that it was too expensive of a line of dolls, in the long run). Here’s a link. I do hope the Magic Cabin company is morally good. In any case, here’s the link:

magiccabin.com/magiccabin/product.do?

I purchased five of these dolls through another catalog company called Hearthsong, when they were only $59 each a while back. I think it was an introductory-type price. Hearthsong was selling the Waldorf dolls cheaper than Magic Cabin (a sister company) but now they’re only available through Magic Cabin at a higher price. These are really lovely dolls, the type of doll that you might imagine Laura Ingles Wilder would pay with. The construction and materials (all wool and cotton) are excellent. The faces are as sweet as you would want a handmade doll to look like. I would pay $129 for one today, if I needed to. We have not missed our AG dolls in the least. When you see what finer dolls look like, you realize that AG has settled for poor quality materials and designs (although the clothing is wonderful). But the Waldorf philosophy is that the simpler a toy is, the better for the child’s mind/imagination as the toy doesn’t dictate to the child how to play with it. But that’s the stuff of another thread. My point here is to suggest alternatives that I have found to AG products, other brands of dolls that have become beloved toys to my four daughters.

Cupof kindness,

I totally agree with you about Corolle. The skin tone is wonderful. My daughters have several corolle dolls in different sizes and the quality is far better than AG.They have more from that company than AG. They like the 8" dolls the most, with the long brushable hair. They are extrememly durable! My daughter once started combing her Molly doll’s hair and it began falling out in huge chunks, so she can’t even play with it.

I have seen the cabin dolls you mentioned in a catalogue and wondered about them, but didn’t want to spend the money to check them out. I am so happy to hear this feedback from you. I will definitely check it out! Thank you so much and I share your enthusiasm for Corolle!

Their “action” link still works, however, they have changed the content of #9 to the following:
  1. Tell a girl about the mistakes you’ve made and what you wish you had done differently.
Their action link states that they want people to contact Congress to encourage their “Girls Bill of Rights”, which for the most part isn’t too bad, however I think Congress needs to know of Girls, Inc.'s agenda and the content of their previous statement such as the #9 you found, Peace-bwu.

My letters to my Congressmen are going out today!

Mattel is getting their butts kicked by Bratz dolls. Barbie sales are down. What kind of insane test marketing determined an adult woman would want to buy Barbie clothes? GAG!

Yeah, I don’t remember ever seeing Plus Size Barbie

This is an insane marketing attempt. It will go down in flames.

I read it to be that designer clothes were being made for Barbie in an effort to get adults to buy the clothes. There are many instances of adult women collecting barbies, so I can understand Mattel wanting to up the ante, so to speak. I know of one upper-class family myself who will purchase them simply because they cost more and will distinguish their daughter from the other little girls.

Oh yeah, I noticed that they quickly changed the content of their website. Well, the AP reporter exposed them for what they are.

And, do they think people are so stupid as not to know they are now trying to hide it?

Perhaps they are trying to give those who haven’t yet looked them up online cause to wonder where we are getting our information, as it obviously has been changed.

Anyone know how to get in touch with the AP reporter?
