I sent the following email bcc to almost everyone in my address book:​

Everyone (BCC),
American Girl has recently pledged financial and other support to Girls Inc., a pro-abortion, pro-gay organization. I would strongly recommend that you and your family no longer purchase any American Girl products in the future. Abortion and the gay agenda cause much pain and suffering in the lives of women and their families. And, most disturbing is the fact that thousands of little baby girls (and boys) are killed thru abortion EVERY DAY. How strange it is that Girls Inc. promotes the killing of girls (and boys)!

Any boycott of Mattel should also include Fisher Price. Imagine that! An enormous company that also sells baby equipment, toys, and other infant care items supporting abortion, which is the wholesale slaughter of future users of their products!

Yesterday I received a catalog from that Christian company that also produces 18" dolls. The dolls are called the Beautiful Girlhood Collection. I have never seen the dolls, so I cannot speak to their quality. But the catalog does have pictures. All of the clothing is historical and includes outfits themed according to historical women and girls: Dolly Madison, Nan Harper, Priscilla Mullins, Sacagawea, and Maria von Trapp.

I believe this company was founded by a homeschooling family.

Their message board does not seem to be charitable in its members comments. They pick one thing out, and now we are all against the ENTIRE Girls, Inc. programs. I thought about responding to them, however, since they aren’t making news, I didn’t think it worth my time. BUT we cannot give up on this…I was talking with a friend of mine and gave her a very brief synopsis of all of this, and she said she will be aware this shopping season and not buy Mattel products (she has a son, so AG was out of the question 😛 ).

American Girl, Mattel, and Girls, Inc. all are hoping we will just get tired, and go away, and the whole issue will become a non-issue and things will go on as they have before.

My next round of letters are hitting the presses today! Keep up the good fight!
 
Oh my! That’s awful! American Girl used to be such a sweet thing with all the various dolls and such. So sad. 😦

I figured it out (finally investigating after wondering for a few months) And I started the thread here,

But,

I have to say it’s all **Us **!

After talking to American Girl and both offices of Girls Inc. I felt like one small person. I started contacting pro-life groups,

IT wasn’t until I started the thread on Catholic Answers, and started informing* all you great folks*, that I felt I was surrounded by a community of concerned citizens. It was your willingness to write letters, emails and make calls, to pass out flyers at churches, to contact the pro-life groups I didn’t think of. I no longer felt alone!

When I started this thread I had the thought in the back of my mind that people would think I was going overboard to be concerned about this. I wondered if the thread would go by the wayside after a few posts.

**This is all Us ! All it took was the flame from one small candle to cause a fire. By myself I was one little birthday candle, but you guys take the cake! :clapping: **

I can tell all of you that this has inspired me to try even harder to find my “niche” in the Pro-life movement. I have always tried to do what I can from my own station in life, giving speeches at my public highschool and college, writing articles for the local paper, campaigning for pro-life candidates. When I had children they became my primary focus, and from time to time I feel guilty that I am not doing more. This was an answer to prayer.

This is all God’s Grace working through Us as a community.

This is a great idea, and a worthy topic for a new thread. I agree that we need to seek out parallel programs to support. Start a thead on it, either at “family” or “culture of life” I know there is a young couple who goes from school to school to teach abstinance etc. and there is a new vocation order which primarily focuses on Pro-life and the family. I can promise you that I am fully interested in young people and will do whatever I can. I teach 5th grade CCD but am willing to help any young person I can.

We have to try to stay with the original topic of this thread, although we have brought up other charities who support the culture of death, and have found alternative dolls for our daughters, and I will post some links with abstinance curriculum, the topic of life-friendly programs for girls at risk deserves it’s own thread. It isn’t possible to address every topic and solution in one thread.

Even though it seemed a bit sarcastic, your post hit the nail on the head. Pro-Abortion programs are sneeky and organizations such as planned parenthood have so much money and power because they siphon funds from other charities, and are experts at blanketing themselves with positive sounding words and deeds. As a wolf in sheeps clothing, they have been able to become a powerful national force, although they are promoted by a minority of voters.

The focus of this thread is our attempt at informing fellow parents, and pro-life groups. The cheerleading is an attempt at supporting one another because it isn’t as easy as it sounds to take the time to write letters, inform the public however we can, etc. We are trying to encourage one another.

Perhaps someone can start a thead about parallel programs for girls that aim to protect them from abortion, the myth of “safe sex” and the radical feminist and radical lesbian/bisexual agenda. When you find them, post the links here, just like the posts for Pro-life cancer research and alternative dolls.

I agree with the poster who said to tell them Santa doesn’t agree with the morals of American Girl. That is a good way to handle it if you want to continue to have them believe in Santa Clause. You can tell them that Santa is a responsible consumer. 😃

From the time my first daughter was very young we told her that we “pretend” St. Nick because it is a fun tradition. Christmas has been hi-jacked by materialism, and a mythical version of the real Saint, and in the mind of a child, and many adults, the focus can be taken away from the reason for the season, and placed on presents and secular versions of Santa. My kids still leave cookies out for “St. Nick” but they know Mommy and Daddy eat them, and they still have a whole lot of fun with it! They don’t know the concept of “Santa clause will bring whatever I ask for.” because they know who is really giving them the presents. Our motto is we “pretend” that St. Nick is leaving presents but the actual St. is real and Jesus is real. I figured out about Santa when I was 7, and it really bothered me. I can remember thinking that maybe they were lying to me about baby Jesus too. :confused: I can remember feeling like a fool who was lied to, but I was only a kid. We tell our kids the truth, but kids have such big imaginations that they pretend rather nicely, and still have a blast with it!

This is really cool, I am going to check it out, hopefully the history isn’t painted against Catholics. I have no objections to negative things about the Church if they are true, but hopefully these books don’t have an anti-Catholic agenda, like so many textbooks in Beca curriculum.

The following text is an “Advocacy Statement” released by Girls Inc. that is titled, “Reproductive Freedom”:

We recognize the right of all women to choose whether, when, and under what circumstances to bear children. Reproductive freedom and responsibility are essential to other rights and opportunities, including pursuit of education, employment, financial security and a stable and fulfilling family life. Restrictions of reproductive choice are especially burdensome for young women and poor women. Girls Incorporated supports a woman’s freedom of choice, a constitutional right established by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 in Roe vs. Wade.* *

“You can’t get any clearer than that,” Scott said of the Statement. “Parents be warned; Girls Inc. is not simply an advocacy group for girls; it is an advocacy group for abortion.”

Another Girls Inc. Advocacy Statement is headed “Sexuality”:

Girls Incorporated encourages all girls to develop positive sexual identities and to function comfortably as responsible sexual beings. We recognize that the family is the primary source of information about sex and we help girls and young women communicate with their families about sexuality.

*To make responsible decisions about sexuality, pregnancy and parenthood, girls need and have a right to sensitive, truthful sexuality education; convenient access to safe, effective methods of contraception and protection from disease; and referral to comprehensive information, counseling, clinical and other services that support their responsible decisions. We recognize that any sizable group of girls includes those who face issues related to their sexual orientation or that of a family member and who face discrimination based on this sexual orientation. Girls have a right to positive, supportive environments and linkages to community resources for dealing with issues of sexual orientation. *

“It’s time that adults with an agenda stop using children as their personal guinea pigs,” Scott said. “Girls Inc. should stick to providing real and universally accepted tools for girls to grow up strong and proud. The so-called ‘right’ to be sexually active and to kill their children will empower no one. It will simply set these young people up for a fall. And the adults at Girls Inc. will intimately be responsible for each tragedy.”

Scott has called on Mattel Inc. to instruct its American Girl subsidiary to stop supporting Girls Inc. “It is not in the best interest of any corporation to get involved in such a controversial issue,” Scott said. “Mattel needs to stand down and stop giving its money and corporate endorsement to Girls Inc.”

I am wondering the same thing. I wouldn’t mind my daughters having “protestant dolls” as long as the stories don’t make negative comments about Catholic faith and it would be nice if there were a few Catholic girls along with the Protestant girls and they could be friends who find common ground in their faith in Christ. I will have to read the books. Ironically, one of the American Girl dolls, Josephina, is Catholic, even named after St. Joseph, and they also had a Jewish girl a few years ago. Why did they have to ruin it with this Girls Inc. affiliation?
