I am wondering the same thing. I wouldn’t mind my daughters having “protestant dolls” as long as the stories don’t make negative comments about Catholic faith and it would be nice if there were a few Catholic girls along with the Protestant girls and they could be friends who find common ground in their faith in Christ. I will have to read the books. Ironically, one of the American Girl dolls, Josephina, is Catholic, even named after St. Joseph, and they also had a Jewish girl a few years ago. Why did they have to ruin it with this Girls Inc. affiliation?

In theory I wouldn’t mind, but it would be so much nicer to have a solid Catholic perspective, vocabulary, characters and such to re-enforce the values and faith I’m trying to instill. As a convert, I want solidly Catholic toys when they deal with faith. But that’s just me! 🙂

Girl’s Inc. did advocate abortion. On its web site it specifically said it supported the right of teens to have abortions and added that it backed the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized them. It was documented that it was on there by some pro-life groups.

I agree. I am very cautious about that too. If there is no company out there that is like American Girl, which is solidly Catholic, I will begin writing the books, in fact maybe I will start that tonight! I have always wanted to write children’s books…:hmmm: Perhaps give donations to Challenge Clubs…

I replied…we’ll see what happens! It is unfortunate that the people on those forums are very uncharitable in their comments. They would rather call us names than to really look hard at the issue. It’s like a wall goes up once a pro-choicer hears that someone is a pro-lifer–the wall goes up, and the pro-choicer doesn’t hear a word anyone is saying. We will have to pray for these people to have a change of heart.

We must not give up on this fight; this is exactly what Girls, Inc. is wanting us to do…give up and go away. Has anyone continued their efforts? Good luck and God Bless.

AHA!!! On the last page (or two?) you will see a breakdown of their budget dollars. Notice that the money isn’t broken down into specific programs!!!

Girls, Inc. does seem to have some wonderful programs for pre-teen and teenage girls when it comes to self-image and self-esteem; however, it was recently learned that Girls, Inc. supports the decision handed down in the case of Roe v. Wade. While they do not overlook teaching abstinence to these young girls, they believe abortion is an option as a birth control method.

The association between American Girl and Girls, Inc. has really upset parents and regular customers of American Girl as American Girl claims they present a wholesome, don’t let the girls grow up too fast, image. However, their association with Girls, Inc. has let many down, especially since they refuse to reconsider their association with Girls, Inc.

While this is directed solely at National Geographic, I will use this as a basis for each letter I send. Please join me in continuing this crusade. No one said change was going to be easy, but if we stick together, persevere through thick and thin, we will effect change.
 
My wife asked me to post here on this American Girl, “I Can” bracelet program.

She just got off the phone with American Girl, requested them to take her name off their list, to not send her any more catalogs, that she will not buy any more of their products, and she asked that managment should be informed about her unhappiness with concealing pro-abortion, anti-family goals under a phoney “cover” of girls being all they can be.

If anyone else wants to call, the number is 1-800-845-0005. It sounds so good and it appeals to kids, but when you down load the pages and pages that are buried deep in the Web site, you can read who they are REALLY supporting. And it ain’t family values.

I am suspicious of the claim that American Girl has slotted their donations* only* for math, science and sports. Even if they are able to do that, all it does is free up more funds for Girls Inc. to use for their abortion education and political activism.

Man! I have always been a National Geographic Fan, I even had a childhood dream of being a journalist for that magazine!

There are so many corporate contributors to Girls, Inc., its amazing! I’m sure most, if not all, are duped by their financial support.

Please notice that the financial report DOES NOT split out contributions to separate programs.

As for National Geographic…I know what you mean. When I was a kid, I loved and devoured the stories about finding treasures under the sea from old lost ships…I wanted to be an oceanographer. The one that most stands out in my mind was an actual sized gold cross, embedded with flawless emeralds, pictured on a full-sized page. 😃

I work for a lawyer…maybe that means I’m working with the sharks and am close to my realization of being an oceanographer!

The funny part is that Girls, Inc.'s annual financial report doesn’t distinguish where their donations go! American Girl cannot determine (“earmark”) where their donations go. I wonder if they are aware of this. Hmmmmmmmm, maybe its time to write them another letter.
 
my daughter belongs to the American Girl club and periodically gets surveys to fill out. She missed the deadline for this month’s survey, but emailed them anyway. I am so proud of her!! This is her email:

Join The Boycott - Sign The Boycott Pledge…

“We regret that American Girl has chosen to sully their wholesome image in order to provide financial support for Girls Inc,” Scheidler said. “But since they have chosen to ignore the pleas of pro-life parents and grandparents, we must urge pro-lifers not to purchase American Girl products as of Tuesday, November 1.”

Scheidler remarked that with the Christmas shopping season coming up, pro-life parents have a ideal opportunity to send a message to American Girl—and corporate American in general—that they will not allow their consumer dollars to support an anti-life, anti-family agenda.

Scheidler invited pro-lifers to join the boycott and to sign the League’s Boycott Pledge.

Scheidler also called attention to an alternative to American Girl dolls, the Life of Faith dolls offered by Mission City Press. The books that accompany these dolls feature stories of girls living out their Christian faith with heroism.
