So we are cool with asylum for all of these immigrants coming over who vote for pro-abrotion and pro-socialist agendas…yet when we are faced with a family that is Christian and genuinely needs help…we kick them out?

wnd.com/2010/03/130685/

A German homeschooling family looking for asylum in this country to be able to raise their children Christian clearly has no place in our country.

I’m sorry…but this is clear hypocrisy.

Immigration reform is nothing but a socialist agenda.
How are these people being allowed to vote? In Florida, a person must be a Citizen of the United States of America (a lawful permanent resident is not a U.S. citizen). What are the requirements in other states? Only US citizens have the right to vote in federal elections.

I have to say every time I hear AB Gomez I am struck by his humanity and courage. I got to sit front and center at a San Antonio ordination a few years back and was impressed with them man then. Since he has been in Los Angeles he has been a voice for those most in need.

I agree the expulsion of this family, coincident with de facto legalization of millions of others who are here for strictly economic reasons is totally wrong.

But a big problem with any kind of immigration reform is that “political correctness” of the courts will undoubtedly lead to some unforeseen consequences. If we go for admission of educated people, might we see an influx of Middle Easterners who are members of the Muslim Brotherhood? There is no way the courts would allow us to, say, prefer Christian Germans, Filipinos or Argentines with cultural affinities to Muslim Egyptians or Saudis with none.

If we opt for unskilled workers, can we really prefer Haitians or Guatemalans over Yemenis or Chechens? I don’t think the courts would allow it.

Political correctness, unfortunately, is often the enemy of common sense, and can lead to paralysis combined with passivity.

I do not watch MSNBC.
I believe America will continue to be a great nation. I also recognize that this great nation was built by immigrants
Why would our bishops support such as you describe, in your opinion?
This new massive wave of illegal immigrnts has no desire to become American. We have a leviathan welfare state which coddles many new arrivals in a way that our ancestors could not have imagined. I don’t know about you, PS, but I’ve seen America sink to the lowest common denominator. Just watch television. Programs are geared to entertain the vilest interests of ten year olds. This never would have happened had America not caved to leftist, internationalist haters of decency and civility. To a large extent, they are the people who vote for rabble rousers such as Obama.
Some women have kids by multiple fathers, none of whom are around. These children often grow up without love, and are seen by their substance-abusing “moms” as meal tickets. And since employers are being crushed by high taxes and onerous regs, jobs are scarce. We no longer have a system which can survive a new flood of immigrants, legal or illegal. I think the bishops have made the quest for a perfect society the enemy of our once truly good society. MEXICO and other failed socialist states should become more like America once was, instead of us transforming into them. We have squandered great wealth ourselves, thanks to progressives of both parties, mainly Democrats, buying votes with money that was not theirs to steal. Rob

I think AB Gomez is very humble and pious man and that he see the poor and the people in LA that are in need. The only problem is that the poverty, sex trafficing, forced labor, of Mexican’s has grown as the illegals have enter the country. You cannot be for illegal immigration when it creates more suffering that it solves. He never speaks to the increase in poverty across American because of the influx of illegals. This is no solution, it’s not even a good bandage.

This is Obama in a nutshell. You know, the man whose hatred of Christianity is so virulent that he had the crucifix shrouded when he spoke at Georgetown, but had no problem speaking under a humongous banner of Yasser Arafat during Palm Sunday weekend. Obama supports any cause which serves to undermine America. We must not possess the naivete to support any program that is left to the Obamas, Holders, Napolitanos and Sebiliuses to implement. :dts: Rob

What source do you have for it creating more suffering than it solves? Those that have moved to this area are productive hard working people. Some live in less than desirable conditions, but I’ve seen them at the Western Union sending money home to support families.

Bishop Gomez may be a wonderful man. I just think that his demanding of policies which serve to undermine American sovereignty and impose punishing debt on us and many generations to come betrays wrongheaded and shallow thinking.:nope:

I am not for calling them “illegals”. I ran a stop sign last week. I am not an “illegal” because of that. I am 100% for treating all here with dignity, papers or not. I also see the families that are torn apart in a broken immigration system.

I have a great deal of respect for the intelligence of AB Gomez to understand both the problem and the response of Christ to the problem.

I agree pnewton.

I feel very badly for good people in your situation, but I do NOT support amnesty. No one here illegally should jump ahead of a single person who is trying to emigrate through the legal system. The fact is that people who come from dictatorships more often than not vote to impose the hell that they are escaping on America, that is, by voting for socialist Democrats. Too many come here for the freebies, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions of others, are criminals and gang bangers.
Nowhere else on earth can one enter another sovereign nation and head straight to the welfare office, or a hospital to give birth, or enroll children in a school system without being questioned. Our nation has become feeble and addle-brained, and we are rapidly comitting suicide in the name of “compassion”. THe only people-sovereign nation on earth will soon become one more hellish tyranny. 😊 Rob

As was pointed out, familes are torn apart every time someone goes to jail. We do not judge the law (in most cases) by that impact. If we did, we’d decrimilize most things.

I agree the discussion is worthy of merit, and I haven’t heard great solutions from either side, including those who agree with Archbishop Gomez. Until real, workable solutions are proposed on any issue that is fair to those waiting for citizenship, protects the poor woth Christian solutions, and does not add to a debt that threatens to cripple everyone in this country (with immigrants being hit hard of all in some cases), all we are doing is talking in platitudes. Open borders is not tenable, and mass deportation of everyone isn’t feasible either.

Every program or solution is worthy on paper, but if the cost is such that it brings about a collective financial ruin, those who the program was intended to help will be left with nothing. A lot of our problems (like immigration) could have been dealt with if we had managed our finances according to Catholics principles. Instead, we have put ourselves in a psotion where we are forcing future generations to pay for the mistakes of the prsent, which is extremely anti-Catholic.

Like I said, I’d be more inclined to welcome immigrants if they did not contiually vote by a majority for a candidate that promoted mostly anti-Catholic ideals on THE most serious issues. Immigration, tax rates, and national defense even do not rise to the level of abortion, gay marriage, and euthanasia.
Christ didn’t tell us not to put ourselves out to help others.
He didn’t call us to put out others to help others though, either, which is what being irresponsible with our money has led us to. Perhaps if men like Bishop Gomez had been as alarmed about our financial irresponsibility as they are now currently about immigration, we’d have a much better chance at helping people.

That’s what we are talking about in most cases - pathways to citizenship. That’s how they vote, like everyone else.

You have a good point. How many people have ever gone faster than the speed limit? That’s technically breaking the law, but do we consider anyone who has ever done that (everyone) an “illegal”? I think the Republican Party has had it right in most things except for this one issue. But at the same time, I know that the reason Democrats want to give the immigrants citizenship is because they see them as potential Democrat votes. If the ones who come across the border would be Republican voters then we would see the Republicans arguing to give them citizenship and Democrats doing everything they can to stop them from gaining citizenship and having a chance to vote. For both political parties, it’s all about the votes and about gaining and retaining power. One side just pretends to care about the people. I strongly believe that party systems are what has been destroying America. There should be no political parties at all. And everyone who runs for office should run based on their own merits alone without any political party or special interest lobbies involved. I also think that there should be a two-term limit a lifetime for all politicians. Some Senators and Congressmen have been in office since the 1960’s. It’s ridiculous!

So we should only allow people to immigrate if they promise to be conservatives? Doesn’t the Church teach that no evil may be done so that good may come from it?
