An Apology

:blushing: I feel rather badly and so I repent of some of my humor. I have a rather sarcastic sense of humour born of watching too many English comedies growing up.

While I find some Roman Catholic practices superstitious and am amused by the appearances of the BVM to faithful Catholics on tortillas and rusted water towers…I should NOT be making fun of it on a Roman Catholic forum. I am a guest here and the humor may seem quite disrespectful to the faithfully held beliefs about these items. I do not believe the Saint regrew his hand BUT I should not make fun of someone who does. It was rather insensitive and uncharitable and I am sorry. Respect should be the watchword and I did not demonstrate that well at all. 😦

Es tut mir leid oder…mea cupla mea cupla mea maxima culpa.

As a protestant I do know what you mean and sometimes it is hard to remember that we are guests. I commend you on your honesty and willingness to repent to the people you may or may not have offended. 👍

Hey, i have a different sense of humour to some people on the forums to. I do, genuinely not mean to offend but, hey, I can’t help it sometimes! :o BTW, us Scots have a different sense of humour than the English too so you have lots of us to put up with.😉

British humor often does not translate well (I should know, half my family is English) but when it does, it is hilarious. The best way to get kids interested in Shakespeare is to start with some of his slapstick comedy, we used to like Benny Hill better than the 3 stooges (which, come to think of it, doesn’t say much for our discrimintion and refinement). Australian humor is incomprehensible.

Is this really necessary? He was apologizing and you take it as an oportunity to spit in his face. Nice Charity… NOT… Whatever.🤷

This is why I despise (yes, I said DESPISE) SOME catholics and one reason why I don’t want to be a catholic. You take on such an air of superiority that it is SICK to look at.

Get off your high horse.
Yes: it’s never too late to learn good manners.

You’ve got a way to go yourself.

But in morals, too: despise Catholics: your words.

Do grow up.

I have to learn to look at someone through God’s eyes. I may despise SOME catholics (not all) because of the way that they like to pretend they’re God and judge the faith and the hearts of protestants. Who can’t simply take an apology from a protestant with love but instead spit at it and really show just how much they are like the pharisees in their attitudes.

Let me say this… I do NOT despise the catholic church. But some of it’s members (of whom I have to remember are children of God) really get me hot under the coller. And this is something that God and I are working on together.

Grow up? No, I don’t see the reason. Christ says to come to Him like a child… 😃 😛

I am a new member, and the thing that has struck me the most so far is how many protestants are reading and responding to these posts. To be perfectly honest, it never would have occurred to me to go to a Baptist or Methodist forum, and put in my 2 bits on whatever it is I disagreed with them about. Why are protestants obsessed with Catholics and the Catholic religion? And don’t tell me you aren’t. Every conversion story I read talks about how their old denomination would preach against the Church at the pulpit, and would teach in Bible study about what the Church supposedly taught and why the Catholics are wrong, or worse, “unsaved.” I say to you truthfully, I have heard anyone even mention the protestants while in Church, nevertheless, heard anyone say anything against them.

Part of the reason I am here is to help catholics, who want to, understand my Faith. I think there are a LOT of HUGE disconnects between catholics and protestants on what they believe and just as a catholic would not want a protestant to grossly misinterpret what they believe nor does a protestant want the same thing. We all love eachother enough to want the other ‘side’ (so to speak) to be in God’s Holiness and sometimes those on either side go about trying to convince the other in the incorrect way.

Sometimes I forget what a GREAT compliment and act of love it is when someone comes out swinging!

I also like to apologized. Everyone here knows my zeal for my faith. My faith in Jesus Christ, and trust His Church. There times where my objection to Protestant may seem offensive though it is my intend.

I only preach the Truth of Catholics. Not half truths or distorted view of Catholicism, which many Protestants here have.

I would like to apologize for not having done anything I should apologize for.😃

Well…the least you could do is have the decency to offend someone so you had something to apologize for. Zeeesh!

Someone wrote somewhere in this forum that the protestant members keep these forum conversations interesting. After several days of reading this forum, I have to agree. It really wouldn’t be all that interesting if we had nothing to debate, now would it?

Your Friendly Neighborhood Methodist;) mostly tries to behave herself.
This is not easy for me; I am also addicted to Monty Python.
Also, in case no one has read my signature, I am the Northernmost Confederate, and ye dinnae ken wha’ trouble is, till ye http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/4.gif tak’ the name o’ ❤️ General Thomas Jackson in vain.:knight1: :knight2: Skewered. Like a:irish1: bluidy wee rat on a stick!!!

But, honestly, I do try to behave. Most of the time. Honest…😊

I think you’re forgetting that a good many of us Catholics here are converts from various Protestant denominations, mainly Evangelical/Fundamentalist/Pentecostalists ones, so we are far from ignorant about the teachings of these groups. Nor do we know nothing about liturgical denominations, from which some of us also came. So really, just to save you some time and bother, we don’t need here you for information. 😉

Not that we don’t want you here, but we don’t need to be instructed in what we already know. Stay as a guest by all means–and make your arguments all you please, but we do know where you are coming from–we were there ourselves. JFYI, dear sister in Christ. 🙂

For Rev. North, Catholics have much less interest in odd appearances of the BVM on toast, etc. than many a Protestant seems to have. Our Magisterium decides if any apparition is “worthy of belief.” Such things are not determined according to anyone’s personal opinions. The Magisterium strenuously investigates any serious claim of miracles. You should read up on the topic. There are plenty of reliable sources available. 😉

Okay…we have to draw the line somewhere. The English invented humor 😃

And actually…on a serious note many US comedies were stolen from British TV (Threes Company…Sanford and Son…All in the Family…and I think The Office).

But sir, you’re assuming these shows are funny. I still don’t understand how people think Monty Python is funny either. >.<

Then again, my husband likes all those shows… But I’m not much of a fan of slap-stick humor

I love Monty Python. I saw “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” back in Catholic high school in a history class. The teacher showed us the video. 😃

Interesting. I’ve certainly seen in these forums as much misunderstanding about Protestants by Catholics as the reverse.

Well, how many different splinter groups are there to misunderstand?

If we gave a hang we’d be on Protestant webites, not here, and the news comes out way at all events: schism in the C of E, pro-abortion Protestants, the Carter left: the usual band of clowns and rascals.

But as we have already rejected Protestantism on the basis of faith and reason, why would we trouble?

We know stadia of Protestants, who were once the ruling elite and laws unto themselves.

We’re nice to them in person but when they speak out of turn here a certain impatience does become evident.

I pray Protestants will see the light and rejoin the one true holy and apostolic church they broke with in the sixteenth century.

It’s not that difficult. In most things, Protestants believe pretty much the same things. We also understand where we differ in our beliefs. In the end we are neither as divided as you think we are nor as united on the essentials as we profess.

Why? What is the reason for this ‘FYI’?

*sigh… Apparently not ALL of you have the same understanding that you claim because I have been told that I do not have faith nor do I worship the same Jesus and God that catholics do. So there are SOME that need the education.

Perhaps we’ve both been a bit too sweeping in our assessment. But, any Catholics who have said the things you cite are sadly misinformed about their own faith. Just as someone from your communion would be who declared that Jesus is not God (just as an example–a Catholic who said such a thing would also be misinformed at the least). Yes?

Misinformed Catholics have no bearing on what the Church actually teaches, nor does it mean that most of the Catholics here have as little knowledge about Protestant beliefs as some Protestants seem to think. 😉
