“Religion’s misdeeds may make for provocative history, but the everyday good works of billions of people is the real history of religion, one that parallels the growth and prosperity of humankind.”

I’m glad Mr. Sheiman sees it that way. It’s too bad Hitchens and Dawkins don’t, they just can’t seem to get past their hatred.
 
Another prominent atheist who defends religion is Camille Paglia - her latest column had this amusing commentary about fellow atheist Richard Dawkins:
*I was recently flicking my car radio dial and heard an affected British voice tinkling out on NPR. I assumed it was some fussy, gossipy opera expert fresh from London. To my astonishment, it was Richard Dawkins, the thrice-married emperor of contemporary atheists. I had never heard him speak, so it was a revelation. On science, Dawkins was spot on — lively and nimble. But on religion, his voice went “Psycho” weird (yes, Alfred Hitchcock) — as if he was channeling some old woman with whom he was in love-hate combat. I have no idea what ancient private dramas bubble beneath the surface there. As an atheist who respects and studies religion, I believe it is fair to ask what drives obsessive denigrators of religion. Neither extreme rationalism nor elite cynicism are adequate substitutes for faith, which fulfills a basic human need — which is why religion will continue to thrive in our war-torn world.

Fr Groeschel has said that there are atheists that financially support his TV ministry…Many of them are decent moral people…

That’s interesting.

I guess it goes to show that we shouldn’t let the loudest voice determine our opinion of the entire group.
 
Fr was shocked to find our his own brother was an atheist for many years…He suddenly became aware that God is real and died in a state of grace

SO I think we should be careful about trying to say if you don’t believe you must be evil

She also cheerfully admits that abortion IS murder.In a strange uncomfortable way I grudgingly admire her for her honesty but not her world view.Please pray for her conversion.She gets a rosary tonight.
