I found this clip through Creative Minority Report and RC.

Their website appears to be affiliated with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Is it me or did anyone else feel as if they went back in time to the seventies?

Wow! Unbelievable! Are there any priests at this parish? It amazes me that people who seem to have their hearts in the right place simply don’t “get it” when it comes to the Eucharist. The deacon says that our culture stands up as a sign of respect; therefore, all kneelers have been removed from his church. As an example, he states that we stand for the President of the United States. What he’s forgetting is that we’re not attending mass to show respect to a public dignitary. We go to mass to WORSHIP GOD. Therefore, we should be kneeling, we should observe a sacred silence (not talk in the pews as the deacon suggests we do) and we must have an adoration for the Eucharist above and beyond the level of respect we show for the President or any dignitary. This modern mentality is my pet peeve. It really angers me that some Catholics have moved so far from where we need to be. It certainly suggests a lack of proper catechesis at the very least. Thanks for sharing the video.

For me personally, it didn’t feel like the 70’s or a time warp. Culturally, it reminded me of some churches in California that are progressive: let’s talk, let’s “open things up”, no kneelers. I like the sentiment of community, but not necessarily the practice. I almost choked when he used the example of “standing before the president” as being equivalent to standing (instead of kneeling) before the Lord. 😦

To each his own, as long as they are obedient to their Bishop, and he to the Pope.

As soon as I posted, I saw your post. Glad to see that you’re from California and that we share the same understanding. My “left coast” liturgical experiences were “surprising” to put it nicely. These were mostly in the East Bay Area if that means anything.

I saw that there were twenty other videos from that Church. There are two Priests who are Franciscans.

Wow. What is going on out there? Are these practices approved by the bishop? It seems that they are taking a ton of liberties and compromising the reverence of the Mass. No kneelers? The way he equated the respect we owe the president and the respect we owe to Christ was deeply disturbing.

I second this. Plus, if I had a dime for every time that deacon said, “I feel” or “we feel” I would be rich. 😦

What a complete and utter disaster. Does this parish lack priests? If so, their consecration is invalid.

Yep, totally invalid. This video is all over the net. Fr. Z’s blog, Rorate-Caeli and New Liturgical Movement.

Somehow or other I got through it without getting sick. I can even remember a lot of this stuff in a local parish.

Thank God that there are lots of other beautiful videos to watch.

I’ve tried to look for the entries at wdtprs…would you kindly post the links please?

Seems to be an awful lot of “But that’s the way we’ve always done it” in the Church these days. Just today, we see people beside themselves over the thought of not having kneelers in the sanctuary, applauding after the Mass has ended, receiving by hand and not mouth.

I think the Holy Father was on to something last week (or was it 2 weeks ago), when he noted Jesus was not so concerned with form as much as function.

But, to each his own.

Peace and prayers!

How ridiculous! It’s breaking off from the Catholic Church, changing all the traditions and trying to pass it off as a more “cultured” or “contemporary” Catholic Church. Disgusting!

I’m happy to see more dislikes than likes for that video.

Peace.

True, we stand up to show respect to HUMAN dignitaries. Therefore we need a different form of showing respect exclusively, unique to God. May I suggest kneeling? What’s that we are aready kneeling for God? Great, then let’s give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s (standing up) and to God what is God’s (KNEELING)
Sorry for the sarcasm, these modern “throw-back-to the 70’s” just tend to get my goat.

You do realize that this parish may not have a valid Eucharist?

My apologies, I was wrong about this being posted on Fr.Z’s blog. I am correct, though about NLM and Rorate-Caeli blogs.

Let me say this, there are people who are physically incapable of kneeling or genuflecting and I am amoung ther numbers.

We are not all exactly the same.

I often have my feelings hurt by the dirty looks I get because I don’t kneel. I can’t, I am disabled.

Please make exceptions in your rantings. If I could kneel I would.

You do know the difference between illicit and invalid, don’t you?
The video says that the parish doesn’t use priests. Priests are necessary for a consecration to be valid. If the priest is out of communion with Rome, the consecration is illicit, but valid. Therefore, if they do indeed not have validly ordained priests, their Eucharist is invalid, and not truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ.

Of course, there is no obligation to kneel for those physically incapable of doing so. But to eliminate the practice by which we show reverence before God for even the physically able is inexcusable.

After doing soon research, they do use priests, none of whom are full time at the parish.
