Gorgias:
One big obvious one: Matthew’s genealogy traces Jesus’ family line back to Abraham – the father of the Jews. Luke’s goes much further, in fact, he goes all the way back to the Adam!
How is that an inconsistency? How?
I dunno. Ask @laylow – he’s the one you’re quoting, not me. 😉

I posted links. Read those.
I’ve read the entire bible multiple times. The suggestion was for you to read it and tell me how there no inconsistencies in the geneaologies. No serious critical scholar would agree with that assertion.

I believe the long lives, of the patriarchs, are symbolic of sin entering the world. As sin spread, man’s lifespan began to decline.

I repeat: I posted links. Read those.
I read the links. My opinion has not changed in regards to that specific problem or of the others dealing with genealogies. The link provided me with no new information that I have not already read and considered.

Your opinion that the genealogies are inconsistent is just that, an opinion, one that has already been answered.

Most of your own brethren wouldn’t even agree with you. @Gorgias care to share your opinion on the geneaologies?

IIRC, when I challenged the issue, the response I got wasn’t in terms of the names in the genealogies, but comparisons of one to the other. I don’t have a problem with those explanations, but rather, with some of the individuals themselves…

Since when has popular opinion determined truth?
When you are attempting to analyze something, especially historical data where a truth is essentially impossible to uncover, consensus carries considerable weight.

The consensus in the time of Galileo was a geocentric system. That was wrong.

Hmm… I thought the discussion was about ‘truth’, not “considerable weight”? 🤔
