An honest question for Mormons

Ross, I understand that. But you don’t help another by telling them they believe something they don’t.

And the Lord Clearly taught us how to treat others in the Bible. We teach far more by our actions than our words.

Now, back to my main point, if Christ himself came to this board and said I was wrong, I would be listening. I have changed my position many times in my life when I have found what I thought was right was not. And I am sure as I gain greater knowledge I will again change. I think that is the difference.

I am seeking to truly know God.

But what I see here, is that the position one has taken matters more than truth. What I have seen is that if Christ posted that a point you believe is in error, you would defend your point at all cost. Never being able to think that you could have possibly been in error.

Maybe I am wrong, but that is what I see.

MEgus
Well I’ll let those people who have offended you defend themselves. 🙂

I have a question about the Mormon belief in men becoming gods. Namely, if I were to become a Mormon and lived a good life according to Mormon teachings, etc, I myself could become a god. First of all, when would this happen? Secondly, and most importantly, how would this happen and what would be my qualities as a god? For instance, we believe that God is omnicient (He knows all things), that He is omnipotent (He can do anything He wants to), and is infinitely loving and merciful. Would I have all these attributes also?

God Bless
decana,

Sorry we have strayed far from your original question. Too often as a mortal being, we get caught up in the fight and forget what it is we set out to do.

I’ll try again to answer this question.

As Children of our Father in Heaven, we have the ability to become just like him. Just as our sons and our daughters have the ability to become just like us.

It has nothing to do with being a “Mormon”.

What it does have to do with, is being a son or daughter of God and learning to follow the plan that he gave us from the beginning to grow and progress and become like him. I have found that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has more of an understanding of this than any other. But again, it’s a personal journey.

When will it happen?

Not for a long time, and certainly not in this life, but we can learn a great deal here in becoming like him. The more we learn, and the more we exercise the Plan that our Father prepared for us from the beginning, the more we develop the attributes of God.

So the second half of the OP asks which attributes of God we will develop. I’d be interested to know if there is an LDS answer to this. 🙂

Thanks Ross.

And I was not offended by your question. I think your actions have been more in keeping with what the Savior taught.

Too often the written word conveys things that were not intended by the writer. I guess that’s one of the reasons why we have so many different beliefs about the scriptures, right?

Thanks again.

Yes, we would have to develop the same attributes that God has. All of them.

Ok 🙂 Could you elaborate, b/c my experience when I met w/LDS Missionaries was that we had very different ideas about the nature and capabilities of God.

Funny thing Paul. From what I see, if Christ himself came to this board and told you that you were in error, you would not listen to him.

**You only want to defend your position, you are not looking for truth.
**
That was the same thing the Sadducees and Pharisees did when Christ was upon the earth. They were so adamant about defending their position that they failed to see that Jesus was the Promised Messiah to the point where they crucified him. They would not open their eyes to see or their ears to hear.

MEgus
Thank you Nebula. I appreciate that.

You are getting closer to the truth, but the actual answer is that there is a possibility that none of us are correct. For none of us truly know God. We can only use our fallible human minds to try to comprehend him, and look at the scripture he has inspired and try to come to a knowledge of him.

If one really wants to seek to find this truth, one should start as a babe, with no pre-conceived notions, at the beginning and take it from there.

I would be happy to discuss it from that perspective, but it does us no good to argue who is or who is not correct.

What I am doing is finding truth where ever it lies. I started first with the beginning of scripture. Then I added upon it. I have found that scripture is far more accurate in the Church of Jesus Christ than any other. And I find that many things you used to believe, you do not now.

Again, I look to God first, and then where he leads me. The Church is just a tool to help me get closer to God.

MEgus
You keep saying we refuse the truth and you are open to it. In all of the quotes you go on about how you are the one seeking truth we are just defending our position like Pharisees. You are the simple humble one.
I’m seeking truth you people are defending your position, I would listen to Christ you people would ignore Him.

Like Ross said, from our position you are the one who ignores Christ and does nothing other than defend your position.

That’s the best way to spot a cultist. We see this attitude from every Mormon who comes here.

And they think they’re going to convert people that way. :tsktsk:

Bill, we only need one baptism. One preformed by one who has authority from God to do so.

MEgus
MEgus good answer ,then why do mormon have a baptism for dead people. christian have been and had a biptism so why do mormon have baptism again

You didn’t notice that part about “authority from God” part did you.

Not just anyone can do it. That’s the difference.

I agree with almost everything you wrote, except I believe the Church of Jesus Christ is the Catholic Church,:signofcross: of course. 🙂

When you say you “find many things you used to believe, you do not now”, what did you mean by that?

  1. It is about being a Mormon - that’s your theology.
  2. Concerning “progression,” you said that you “have found the LDS church has more of an understanding of this than any other church.” That is because no other church shares that interpretation or teaching.
  3. You can’t claim authority and Great Apostasy - its schizophrenic. Catholics understand authority better than anyone - in His own words, Christ left it to Peter and the church when He effectively established the Papacy.

Oh this is great. It really shows all the beliefs.

I had to laugh when I read this:

Our Ancestors Need Our Help

Mario Cannamela married Maria Vitta in 1882. They lived in Tripani, Italy, where they raised a family and shared many wonderful years together. Mario and Maria did not hear the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ during their lifetimes. They were not baptized. They did not have the opportunity to go to the temple and be sealed together as an eternal family. At death, their marriage ended.

Over a century later a great reunion took place. Descendants of Mario and Maria went to the Los Angeles Temple, where a great-grandson and his wife knelt at an altar and served as proxies for the sealing of Mario and Maria. Tears filled their eyes as they shared in Mario and Maria’s joy.

Mario and Maria no doubt were Roman Catholics if they lived in Italy in 1882. Now they are Mormoms forever in heaven! Ha!
I’m sure they are looking down from heaven and wondering” what in the world do they think they are doing." I know if I die and someone does that to me, and that wasn’t my faith, I would be so horrified! My husband is Mormon, and my mom told him “do not undo what I have done!” she meant don’t mess with her faith and don’t try to erase what I have worked hard to instill in her.

Not Mormon, they are members of the Church of Jesus Christ.

I guess you missed that. And of course, they have their agency, like you, to chose for themselves.

But tell me, which is a better heaven? The one where you are no longer married to your spouse? And your children are just people who you happened to raise as you believe, or one where you and your spouse are still sealed together as husband and wife. And where your family is sealed together as a family unit?

MEgus
Meg, you will not want for anything in heaven. Don’t be scared to die because your scared you will be alone. God told us they we will not want for anything. we will be in a place our own minds could never comprehend! Do you think God is cruel, and would let you be in heaven sad and depressed because you miss your family? No, he would never do that! have faith!
God Bless You!
