Then a joke is in order:
Yes!

A religious women upon waking up each morning would open her front door stand on the porch and scream, “Praise the lord.” This infuriated her atheist neighbor who would always make sure to counter back, “there is no Lord.” One morning the atheist neighbor overheard his neighbor praying for food, thinking it would be funny, he went and bought her all sorts of groceries and left them on her porch. The next morning the lady screamed, “praise the Lord, who gave me this food.” The neighbor laughing so hard he could barely get the words out screamed “it wasn’t the Lord, it was me.” The lady without missing a beat screamed “praise the Lord for not only giving me food but making the atheist pay for it!!”

Well, you picked a few human monsters, who happened to be atheists and blame atheism for their acts. I have this sneaky suspicion, that you would be very upset if I would issue a mass condemnation of catholicism for the acts of some pedophiles, who happened to be catholic. Aren’t you just a tad hypocritical? I think you are.
Serious:

The first thing one must do when initiating a disparagement of someone else, or, some other group, is to make sure one has all of the facts correct. You have bought the line of the anti-Catholic media. That line says that the Church is full of “pedophiles,” when that’s not the case - and the support is all over the internet. What some churchmen involved themselves in is called, “pederasty.” The vast majority of the victims were no longer children.

Unfortunately, the Church looked the other way when two of its USA seminaries were taken over by homosexuals. What occurred, for the public to see, were gay pederasts violating young boys above the age of 13. There were very few acts of pedophilia in the Church. Then and now, there is no doubt that the arms of the Church is by far the safest place to be on this planet for children and young people.

Secondly, compared with ‘normal’ society, the per capita acts of both pederasty and pedophilia were less than half of what was occurring regularly in the wild, so to speak. I have posted numerous posts, in many locales on these fora, with the incontrovertible proof for what I (and many others) am saying. The four siblings from my parents all attended Catholic Schools and Churches, never once encountering either a pederast or a pedophile, in more than 20 years. My children, three precious ones, never encountered either pederasts or pedophiles in over 16 years. Not once in more than 36 years. Not even among anyone they were associated with.

So, your condemnation of the Church on that account would be nothing more than bologna. That said, do not misunderstand me. I am sure that there were some few activities that should not have taken place. What I am saying is that a general condemnation of all of society would be far more appropriate.

God bless,

Aha. The “vast majority”… what about the “small minority”? Of course that is all irrelevant. To blame atheism for the acts on some atheists is exactly as nonsensical as blaming catholicism for the acts of some catholics (be they pedophiles or pederasts or inquisitors). Are you going to dispute that?

No, it would not be. Any kind of generalization is uncalled for.

Quite frankly, unless the guy has done a worldwide study, this can only apply to the Catholics he’s come across himself. Therefore it may be true for his area for all I know. 🤷

Its easy to make generalizations when there aren’t any repercussions for getting it wrong.

Good one 🙂

A Catholic priest, a Baptist preacher and a Jewish rabbi discussed how do they share the money with God donated by their congregation. The priest says: “I draw a line on the ground, throw all the money in the air. What lands on my side, I keep for myself, what lands on the other side I offer to the Lord”. Says the preacher: “Not bad… I draw a large circle around myself, throw the money up in the air, and what lands inside the circle is mine, the rest belongs to the Lord”. Say the rabbi: “You are losers… I throw up all the money in the air, whatever the Lord wants, he keeps, and whatever he rejects I keep”.

Of course the quote was verbatim. I did not include the name of the poster, because it is irrelevant. And no, it was not an atheist who wrote it. It was die-hard conservative catholic.
Actually he is not a Catholic yet, he has a very militant zealous approach to the Church, it’s burn all the buildings and rise from the ashes philosophy.

I dare him to go to the March for Life in Washington DC next year and tell all THOSE dedicated Catholics “You suck!”

The shock treatment and nasty belligerence do no one good.

Are you going to trot out that bologna too? Really?

Even one person wronged is too much. I concur with that, but, I am not so stupid as to compare the few to the many. If 11,000 (or less as my memory serves) were killed by the Catholic inquisition, how does that square with the millions and millions killed by Hitler, Pol Pot, the current Chinese regime, the Japanese who taught the earth how to promulgate terrorism, and the millions tortured and killed by the various jihadist regimes? If one goes out and kills 7 kids in a schoolroom, instead of the one kid he was after, seven is far worse. No one can be stupid enough to believe that that is not so. Seriously!

Yes, it would. I don’t think that you are really that vapid. I think you are just trying to win this with all your little ol heart!

Yes. Seriously. This is not a number’s game. You keep playing the “guilt by association” game, you keep blaming “atheism” for the acts of a few monsters, who happened to be atheists or muslims or maybe shintoists? I explicitely say that “catholicism” should NOT be blamed for the acts of SOME catholics.

I find the quote offensive, wonder about its source, disagree with it, and am sorry to have seen it on this forum especially during Holy Week.

Why? So we can be duped into the neo-Pentacostal movement of half converts and non-Catholics to spew indefinable words and write it off as “tongues”? I’m sure Montanists, Jansenists, “French Prophets”, Ranters, wackos of Azusa Street, etc. would all feel at home at a Charistmatic Mass.
I think you are wrong about the Jansenists- a Jansenist would be quite, reverent, austere and strict in their practice of the faith. I think a Jansenist would regard speaking in tongues as an earthly vanity and demonically inspired. On the contrary, a Jansenist would probably regard a mainstream Catholic Mass as too irreverent.

To blame atheism for the acts on some atheists is exactly as nonsensical as blaming catholicism for the acts of some catholics.
Nonsense.

How many is “some” atheists? a couple hundred? A few thousand? Millions?

Chairman Mao didn’t do all those “acts” all alone.

We are all just human, but Christians have a reason to at least make the attempt to rise above poor behavior and selfishness. What do atheists have?

Never heard of the Convulsionary Jansenists?

Serious:

The difference is: millions could not have been killed without some help. So, it was not just a “few monsters.”

Atheism means God-less, and God-less means good-less, and good-less means no rationale to love one’s neighbor as one loves himself. That means, anything that solves the immediate problem is just fine. Problem # 1: 400,000 Kurds: gassed. Problem # 2: 8,000,000 Jews: gassed. Problem # 3 . . . shall I go on? Adolph did not personally kill 8,000,000 innocent people. Saddam did not personally kill 400,000 innocent people. They each found accomplices, fully willing or only partially willing. The deaths of millions cannot be blamed on merely a few “monsters.”

So, yes, I blame atheism and the atheistic monsters. No spin will ever dis-abuse me of that.

Obviously you have no idea what those societies were like. You have no idea how pervasive the secret police was. You have no idea how far the intimidation went. You blame the everyday Germans for the atricities of the Gestapo and the SS. You blame the everyday Russians for the atrocities of the KGB and the GRU. You blame the average Chinese for the deed of the Cultural Revolution. And the average Cambodian for the atrocities of Pol Pot. What do you know? Nothing, and looks like you are even proud of it.

Are you aware of the Stanford prison experiment? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment and several others similar to that? In the US (one of the most religious contries in the world) the same would happen under a theocracy. The same thing DID happen under the religion based systems in the middle ages.

Yes, the Gestapo and the SS were a bunch of monsters - but most of those were Christians and Catholics. (Gott mit uns - God is with us was the slogan.) But they did NOT do what they did because they were Christians and Catholics, they did it because they were monsters. The KGB and the GRU and the thugs in China were monsters and atheists. But they did not perform those atrocities because they were atheists, they did tem because they there monsters.

The inquisitors were a bunch of monsters and they were Catholics. And they did all those atrocities because they were Catholics. Yet, I would never blame Catholicism for the deeds of a few Catholics, even if those deeds were the direct, logical consequence of their Catholicism.

What you do is perform the trick of “guilt by association”. Shame on you.
Atheism means God-less, and God-less means good-less, and good-less means no rationale to love one’s neighbor as one loves himself.
Dumb little pun - which only works is English. (Maybe you are like that urban legend US Senators, who was said to utter: “If English was good enogh for Jesus Christ, it is good enough for me”.) And, of course there is no reason to love one’s neighbor as one loves one’s family.
So, yes, I blame atheism and the atheistic monsters. No spin will ever dis-abuse me of that.
Such blatant irrationaly. But at least you are honest about it. Yuck!

The inquisitors were a bunch of monsters and they were Catholics. And they did all those atrocities because they were Catholics.
I can post specifics about the atrocities committed by atheiests (Stalin, Pol Pot, etc), can you please specify one or more atrocities committed by the inquisitors you are talking about?

Yes, the Gestapo and the SS were a bunch of monsters - but most of those were Christians and Catholics. (Gott mit uns - God is with us was the slogan.)
MOST gestapo and SS were Christians?? Where did you pick up this little tidbit of info?

Obviously you have no idea what those societies were like. You have no idea how pervasive the secret police was. You have no idea how far the intimidation went.
Obviously? Really? You know where we all have lived and where we all grew up? I doubt it.

Those societies were that way because that’s how atheists have to enforce their made up morals.
