With all the attacks on the Pope, we can guarantee one thing. He is doing things right.

This is ridiculous. Does this mean that they expect the pope to uphold an invalid excommunication just because someone is a holocaust denier? This is nothing more than a political publicity stunt.

The article makes SSPX sound like it is founded on anti-semitism.

How is it a publicity stunt?

yeah can you explain that to me too.
i’m guessing he means that based on germans track record in the area they should perhaps recuse themselves from any discussions when it comes to condemning or accusing other people of anti-semitism.

Why? Because they want to make sure not only German citizens and the world now and in future are educated and learn from their horrible mistakes in past.
Not to mention the billions they have paid in restitution to the state of Israel. Some of those restutituion instated by American courts.
Funny our court system forces them to pay restitution and their government takes action to educate their people but our government and our citizens do not in regards to our own holocausts.
Sorry Merkel had every right to speak up.

She had every right, but in doing so she revealed two things:
  1. A deep ignorance of Catholic teaching and practice, specifically what an excommunication means (and that’s something I, a recent convert, apparently understand better than her)
  2. A willingness to interfere in the internal workings of a church which is not under the control of her government.
So if she had the right to say something, the rest of the world has the right to comment on it.

You’d have to explain that to me.
Perhaps the poster was confusing the old rumors that her father ad ties to the Stasi and other communist officials in the DDR and thought that her father had Nazi ties?

Exactly.

And you, as an American, have no right to condemn slavery and the massacre of natives.

This is ridiculous, what a horrible comment to make.

I don’t say this often, but you should be ashamed of yourself.

Also, the Pope has clarified this issue and the vatican has asked Bishop WIlliamson to recant his views.

I think that that was QUITE a valid comment to make.German guilt is obviously fueling her attack on the Pope. For one head of state to attack another thusly is practically unprecedented.Perhaps she just feels brave due to the Pope`s unpopularity with liberals world wide.
Climb down off your tiny, little high horse.

OHHHH there is that dirty Liberal word … The Boogy Man… scary.

Hey at least their government has spet decades admiting their fault and making restitutions both monatarially and socially. Our government has yet to officially apologize for the millions murdered in the slave trade and millions of Native Americans and Mexicans murdered in the expansion of our country.

Angela merkel is not a liberal.

And refrain from inflammatory remarks and personal attacks.

Perhaps from a economic perspective she is not, but the jury is still out on her from a social perspective.

She has every right to criticize Bishop Williamson for his view, NOT the Pope. The problem is she did the latter, and it forces the Pope into a box where he now has to criticize the very people he was trying to dialogue with. The only person who should be getting flack here is the Bishop. Now the Chancellor’s comment has helped turned this story into a global news story that paints the Pope in an unfair light. We know his views on the holocaust and the Jewish people, but now all of this will cause people to unjustly judge the Pope on something that is not his fault.

weren’t you just calling a guy a stupid redneck in another topic? maybe you should hold off on the “holier than thou you outta be ashamed routine”?

sorry WWII wasn’t that long ago, germans need to stay mum on the holocaust for at least another 100 years… who cares what europe says anyway? they are almost completely irrelevant anyway, they’ll be a giant dhimi state in 50 more years.

Done more to repent the sins of their past government then U.S. has. How many were murdered to expand the West and how many were murdered to be slaves.

your views of US expansion and the indian wars are very simple and reductionist, i.e. you don’t really know what you’re talking about. read nathaniel philbrick’s “mayflower” just to get a tiny idea of what the complex relationship between EUROPEANS and the indians was like (emphasis added is mine). (I hate to break it to you but the US slave trade was started and primarily benefited europeans for a couple hundred years also, just because america kicked y’all out doesn’t remove europes primarily englands culpability in the slave trade)…

germany is responsible for 50 million deaths in WWII alone, not to mention WWI, so they really just need to clam up on topics like this.
