I’ve been extremely interested in the history of angels and appearances and stuff (as if the majority of you haven’t noticed) and what is the deal with angelic script? I recently saw the movie The Prophecy (great movie, it’s a ‘what if’ movie and it really makes you think) and in it there’s a little bit on angelic script. I’ve been trying to do some research and stuff but all the websites I’ve found are less than Catholic. There are some Kabbalah sites that explain it a little but a lot of them are ‘demonology’ sites and Wiccan sites. I would drop my research now but it’s so interesting and I haven’t had a drive to continue with something like this for such a long time. I feel more comfortable with the Kabbalah sites than any thing else but they are so limited. So I guess what I’m asking is this: Is there angelic script? Has any of it been revealed to humans? And, if so, where on earth can I find it?

I am a calligrapher. I routinely write with quills. I can tell you about all sorts of different “hands” or “ways of writing the alphabet” but in all my years of study, I have never heard of angelic script. I’ve had thirteen years of Catholic education and never heard of angelic script. I shudder when I see you mention Wiccan and Kabbalah sites. I suspect that angelic script is more associated with the occult than with Catholicism. I would be extremely careful and I would take anything I read from either site with a great deal of caution. I cannot recall “angelic script” ever being mentioned by the Church nor can I recall any saint who was ever given the ability to read “angelic script”. Extreme caution appears to be the word here

Remember the old saying “curiosity killed the cat”? It can happen that our interest in spiritual matters leads us to venture down “interesting” but dangerous alleys that lead away from Christ. Our natural curiosity can be enkindled by odd subjects, but remember that those beings inimical to Christ and His people are always looking to tempt us by whatever means that they see will make us fall; such “secret” learning that does nothing but puff-up our our pride in learning such “knowledge” would be one such method. Discernment through prayer and the Sacraments is the key to avoiding the bad and embracing the good.

It’s made-up stuff. Some of it was made up longer ago than others.

If I recall correctly, the most notorious use of “angelic script” was the gullible astrologer Dr. Dee, who got involved in this long-drawn out thing with a guy who claimed to be able to read “angelic script”. Nice con game if you can get it…

Anyway, why would angels want to write stuff down? They’re pure spirits without bodies, they’re eternal, and they can be anywhere in a flash. If they wanted to tell you something, they wouldn’t have to write you a letter! 😉

I’d drop any further study into it now. It’s a form of magik, like casting runes. Each character has a value and a name that indicates its use and/or the angel associated with it. Through this, you are supposed to either gain control over the angel to make it do your bidding, or compel the angel to give you knowledge. An alternative use is through gematria, or number magic – predicting the future through the numeric values of the symbols.

Either way, it is magik and is expressly forbidden in scripture.

Like anything else, searching for anything online, you will find a numerous amount of links to it… with varying results.
I don’t know about ritualistic magik for angelic script, however, what I have found on it is here…crystalinks.com/angelscript.html
There is much more to it than this… but this is a start.
I hope this answers your question.🙂

Err. . what is angelic script supposed to be, for someone who doesn’t want to surf New Age sites to find the answer?

Angels being spiritual rather than material beings do not write.

Anything that smacks of magic offends angels rather than pleases them.

Fallen angels of course would love the stuff naturally. Ouija 2.0 for them I suppose.

The Prophecy may be entertaining but it’s not good theology, and I highly doubt it is morally a good movie. Hmm… Probably were some of the wrong type of angels involved in it, if I were to bet on it.

I haven’t heard of angelic script since I was a teenager. It is witchcraft and shouldn’t be looked into. Tim

there is nothing in the bible or in Catholic teaching or tradition about it, so any fascination with it could be dangerous, especially if it replaces devotion to the real angels, as God has used them as his messengers.

The man you’re thinking of is - was - Edward Kelly 🙂 They’re an interesting pair 🙂

Simple - an intermediary is needed. In the form of a child, the idea being that children, being pure, innocent & generally “uncomplicated”, would be more sensitive to the angels than grown-ups. The idea goes right back to Late Antiquity - it’s not a novelty, at all. The child would also be useful for scrying in crystal balls & the like, for the same reason.

As for the angelology, the Catholic kind is only one - Neo-Platonist influences were also very important at this time.

BTW, Dee was a public figure of considerable stature, eminent enough for Queen Elizabeth I to ask him to determine an astrologically favourable date for her Coronation in 1559. Not bad, for a man in his early thirties 🙂

As for being wrong or unChristian - that was one of the debates of the period; the Bible could be mined for texts on either side, & the Magi could be seen as renouncing astrology in coming to Jesus, or as sanctifying it. The debate did not co-incide with confessional divisions either - Catholics & Protestants could be found on either side.

There’s no such thing as “angelic script”, as angels don’t need to write to each other.

In the few times they are supposed to have written, as when Gabriel appeared to a monk on Athos and gave him the prayer “It is truly meet…”, they have written with standard human script and languages.

Movies and other popular entertainments are no sources for spiritual knowledge.

Kabbala is a Jewish, that is non-Christian, form of mysticism and will lead you to spiritual deception and worse. Stay away from it.

Actually Ramon Lull was a Catholic, currently in the process of canonization, who practiced the Kabbala.

Ok, I had to joien this foram just so I can foment on this thread.

First I hate and yes I said Hate people who say there a perticuler religan but don’t know much if any about the religen they say there apart of. It just make them look ignerint.

Secand, there is Angelic Scripet, it’s not the devils work that if you look into it you tern away from god (actually if you don’t want to use your brain you are actually spitting on god for ignoring that he gave you that brain to use), God created every thing. Bad, good or other. Heck if you read the bible he actually sends his angels to comit geniside (Angels are not just messengers).

Lastly, Angelic Script was the weighting in the book of Azreal. The book that was given to Adom by the archangel. So yes it’s catholic in its perist form.

And if some one asks if that’s true then why isn’t the bible written in it? Well that’s because the Bilble is a dictation written by man and even the Vatican has stated that the Bible is a I compleat book and isn’t ment to be taken titteraly word for word

So thank you all for letting me join this thread and hopfaly I have helped some one understand and learn somethin. I do apologize to any one I may have upset

I know and believe me, if you think that this medieval study of that subject is what got Ramón Lull beatified, you are very confused. He was martyred preaching the Holy Trinity to Arabs in Africa. If you think that because of he was a martyr because he studied Cabala you are wrong. And if you believe that just because Theosophy is going to get you to Heaven you are gravely mistaken. This man happened to study Kabbala. Saints make mistakes.

Angels are capable of writing. This angelic script stuff is plainly the work of fallen angels. It is an attempt to control demons or communicate with demons. Sure it is fascinating because it was written by demons in an attempt to seduce people to participate in occultism. The actions in this world of demons are real phenomena. This is all superstition meant to sidetrack and derail people from going to Heaven.
From the Roman Catholic Encyclopedia on Kabbala:
Code:
" Of course, the "Book of Creation" does not go back to Abraham, as has been claimed by many Kabbalists. Its ascription by others to Rabbi Akiba (d. A.D. 120) is also a matter of controversy. With regard to the "Zohar", its compilation is justly referred to a Spanish Jew, Moses of Leon (d. 1305), while some of its elements seem to be of a much greater antiquity. Several of its doctrines recall to mind those of Pythagoras, Plato, Aristotle, the neo-Platonists of Alexandria, the Oriental or Egyptian Pantheists, and the Gnostics of the earliest Christian ages. Its speculations concerning God's nature and relation to the universe differ materially from the teachings of Revelation. Finally, it has decidedly no right to be considered as an excellent means to induce the Jews to receive Christianity, although this has been maintained by such Christian scholars as R. Lully, Pico della Mirandola, Reuchlin, Knorr von Rosenroth, etc., and although such prominent Jewish Kabbalists as Riccio, Conrad, Otto, Rittangel, Jacob Franck, etc., have embraced the Christian Faith, and proclaimed in their works the great affinity of some doctrines of the Kabbala with those of Christianity. "
This has no part in the process of sanctification. It has no part in getting to Heaven. It is a fossil from a time of great ignorance and misconceptions.

Ugh! When people wrote that there was no "angelic script" they meant this was not an artifact of Holy Angels. The appellation should be "demonic script." I have to say though your post illuminates and contributes more to driving home this latter point than anything I have written. Thanks. Begone in the Name of Christ. I mean you are joking right?

It’s interesting that this subject is mentioned on a Catholic site. These scripts are widely used among those who practice magic. There is angelic magic, and why not look at this area? If you have faith, surely you will be fine. You could pray about it if unsure. 🙂

🙂 I’ve just read the message from Kindred1313. Oh dear, this person does seem to have a few problems. I shall pray for him 🙂

Sorry to dig up and old thread but “Angelic Script” is a derivatitve of Old Hebrew. It is also called The Celestial Alphabet. Of all I have read on it I have found nothing Unholy nor Satanic. This alphabet is derived from Hebrew. During the early centuries after Christs’ death, a few scholars began a serious study of the Angelic Kingdoms. At the time, Christianity and religion was serious business. Strict rules and politics governed who could and could not share information about these beings. Study of these messengers and beliefs were strongly scrutinized by the political forces of the time. Disobeying or undermining the political and religious governors of this information was severely punished. It was during this study that the names of the Angels were derived by altering the original Hebrew alphabet. These new symbolic variations were now considered to be “of God” and “Holy” images sent by the messenger Angels. This new alphabet can be laid out a variety of combinations or sounds to achieve a desired result.
