Definitely join me in invoking the St. Michael Prayer
  • Pope Leo XIII certainly had a very vivid recollection of this scene when, at the end of the last century, he introduced a special prayer to St. Michael throughout the Church. Although this prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask everyone not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world.*"'http://www.ourladyswarriors.org/images/stmich1.gifSaint Michael the Archangel,
    defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
    Amen.

I don’t get it. Why do people go out of their way to offend Catholics? Or maybe more simplistically, why do they go out of their way to offend others ON PURPOSE?

They can pretend to call it art, but this is simple hate toward others, no matter how you cut it. It is not political commentary. It is not topical. It is just some angry person with a chip on their shoulder who wants to anger others.

I don’t go around insulting Jews, Muslims, Protestants* (ok well maybe Potestants  ),* blacks, hispanics, or women. I don’t go out and pick on gays, hillbillies, the elderly or steal candy from little children. So why do some of these so-called “artists” insist on making garbage like this, which is clearly insulting for the sake of being insulting, and then calling it “art” when it clearly is not? 🤷

I believe that the Church will be significantly smaller. But on the other hand it could lead to greater persecutions if things continue the way they are.

Well I won’t say that Catholics are being persecuted in the way the Jews have been persecuted. . . but I will suggest that we are clearly in an era where we are being demonized and that is simply a precursor to worse happenings in the future. There is clear evidence of Catholic persecution around the globe, most of it (fortunately) on a small scale.

Yes indeed. I don’t propose that we go away quietly.

I actually went and looked at it…
I feel like I need to bleach my eyes and my mind.

So was it “art” or was is a graphic version of “hate” speak?

We are, by law, now bound to speak in politically correct terms lest we be slapped down. So now so-called artists make up pictures and murals that simply defile our religion. Actors portray us as pedophiles, deviants and perverts. All in the name of art.

I am a little afraid to answer that question…
If I misplace myself, I can kind of see how it could possibly, maybe, be “art”

But to me, it was just… odd and not needed.

If the Pope had been Muslim, would it have been shown anywhere? Just wondering…

Since I don’t want to again “bleach my eyes and mind”, I didn’t look at it. Yet I can’t imagine Pope John Paul II being sodomized as acceptable in any form. What has happened to Spain?

Often things come across as anti-catholic because of the writer. An example …In an events newspaper, they did an article about a local conscientious objectors facility used during World War II. He wrote the objectors held there were mostly catholic.

…While this may have been true, how about the many other camps throughout the US?

Ibiza is a sinners paradise, like most of the Meditteranean Islands, cheap booze, nightclubs everywhere, easy sex. It is the playground of all immoral European teenagers/club 18-30 crowd. I went to one of those islands on a two week holiday this year. I left after four days because I couldn’t tolerate it. I’d be slightly more surprised if it was on mainland Europe, but not very much more.

I don’t find showing anyone being sodomized as acceptable in any form. And to do so with a person who is loved and respected worldwide is what I think of when I think of hate-crimes (whether the person who did it calls it “art” or not).😦

JPII forgave the man who tried to kill him, though, so I would think that he would/has also done so in this situation.:crossrc:

Talk about naive, I was thinking more like “sexy pose” until I read the end of the thread.

I can’t look at it. Who is the artist?

This is from the news article…
“The work is one of three collages by Ivo Hendriks that are part of a showcase of art by 15 Dutch artists with ties to Ibiza made over the last 50 years that opened on September 7 and is due to run until the end of the month.”

The more outrage we show, the more likely this will continue, so when we take no notice, the less likely this will continue. Instead pray for the idiots who seek to cause trouble amongst people.

Seriously, laws should be passed to stop religious offense in countries, regarding any religion. We saw what happened with the Mohammed thing, as much as the violence was uncalled for, it wouldn’t have happened if people didn’t feel the need to insult Mohammed, think what you want of Mohammed, but going out of your way to insult others is ridiculous, on the artists’ head it maybe that people were killed. In the name of art, indeed.
