Many high profile men won’t be alone with women. Billy Graham won’t consult with one without his door open and others within earshot. As long as women have the power to ruin lives and reputations by screeching “sexual harassment” or “rape!” at will then it’s a sound policy.
And he was applauded for this…while Pence is trashed.

Yeah, um…so has humankind.
Married people all over the world-- in Iowa and Belarus and Tajikistan and Malaysia and Melbourne and Jerusalem and…and…–also have affairs on their spouses, and it’s been going on since time began.
MELBOURNE???

Say it ain’t so… :crying:

The setting was pastoral, not political.

Requiring a witness for all counselling of women by male clergy, by the way, is obviously *not *a pastoral option for a priest. Why should Catholics be applauding Mike Pence because he does not believe he can protect his reputation and his purity in the same ways a bishop would expect himself to do?

Mike Pence can do whatever he wants to do, provided he treats everyone fairly, but men who don’t are obviously not automatically less serious about their personal purity than Mike Pence is.

So I guess the access that LGBT lobbyists have had for years is the exception so?
If you’re saying conservatives *don’t *resent lobbyists for the opposition getting access they don’t get, I’m not sure I’m following you.

The issue here is restricting access based solely on gender. This isn’t kosher for an elected official in 2017. Mike Pence can do what he wants and give access in whichever way he wants, but he should not expect kudos from people he’s shutting out for reasons they didn’t cause and can’t change. If he decided he wasn’t going to socialize without some escort or other with people from some ethnic group, nobody could force him to change that, but let’s hope he wouldn’t expect congratulations about it from the groups who were shut out or those who object to unfairness even when it doesn’t affect them personally.

Some of you sound as though you miss the Clinton presidency.

No sure why people are concerned about this. He isn’t denying sole access, he’s denying sole access to himself over drinks or dinner. He’s trying to avoid the near occasion of sin. More power to him for respecting his wife to this level.
👍

He indicated his intent is to avoid the perception of scandal (likely among others reasons).

I can’t believe an innocuous topic about ANY man protecting his wife or his marriage’s reputation gets more than a few “attaboys.” I wish more men and women in politics acted like Pence, and that goes for Trump, Clinton, and many others.
