Anglicans to brace for shortage of vicars because of exodus to Catholic church

The Archbishop of Canterbury has warned that many Church of England parishes could be left without clergy as vicars ‘jump ship’ to the Catholic Church.

Dr Rowan Williams made the warning after meeting Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican during an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity.

It comes just days after it was revealed that five senior CoE bishops were quitting and converting to Catholicism under a scheme launched by the Pope last year.

Very clever! Yes, indeed, it is a good example to show these so-called Catholics who advocate for married and female priests and whatnot. Doesn’t exactly work, does it?

But in all seriousness, I don’t know much about the process these “clergy” must undergo to enter the Church, that which is in Anglicanorum Coetibus. I say “clergy” because as a Catholic, I do not recognize the “clergy” of other religions as such because as non-Catholics, they have not received Holy Orders and are thus laypeople just like me. I did read that Benedict XVI’s plan allows for them to continue to use certain Anglican prayer books, and the Anglicanorum Coetibus is interested in establishing “Ordinates”, which I don’t understand right now. If they are to truly become Catholic, then they should be able to see that those books and rituals are the products of heretical protestants, and they shouldn’t want anything to do with then, right? I’m a Catholic, and I don’t want to read Protestant stuff when I have plenty of Catholic material to ponder–you know what I mean?

I’ll have to research it more. It is obviously great news to have more converts! I pray twice a day for the conversion of all the Jews, Muslims, Protestest, the return the East, the return of lost Catholics, and the conversion of all the Hindus, Buddhists, pagans and everyone else, so my prayers are coming true! Praise God. I think the more these former Anglicans learn about the Holy Catholic Faith, the more they will love it, and the more they will naturally distance themselves from their errors of the past. So maybe we don’t even need the Ordinates: I hope that many of them join the FSSP or ICRSS, especially the “bishops”! 🙂
 
I have heard that some Anglican parishes may let the Catholics use their buildings in joint use that that they can keep their parishs open. This in effect would be turn the building over to the Catholics, according to this report. I have only heard this report from a newspaper–whether it is true I don’t know.

Yeah, but, I just call them by their titles as given by their communities.

“Bishop Jeffries-Schorr” … because after all, her communion considers her a bishop, and that’s her title. So that’s what I call her.

She knows I don’t consider her a successor in the apostolic college, but over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres why scruple?

The existing Anglican liturgy which these Anglicans use (now discarded by the fanatical extremist clique who have hijacked the leadership of the Anglican communion in recent years in Western countries) was based on and resembles the Old Sarum rite which was used in Catholic England up to the 16th century. Any heretical errors which have crept into it will be expunged for use by Catholics of the Anglican Ordinariate.

Interestingly in the 19th century when England decriminalised Catholicism and Pope Pius IX restored the English hierarchy, he offered the new English bishops the right to use the Old Sarum rite. They refused and instead chose the Roman-style Latin rite. No doubt as a reaction against the Anglicans who had oppressed them for 300 years. Nowadays Catholics are more receptive to the use of various rites. The Catholic Church should retain all of the rich Catholic traditions which exist in all branches and cultures. We don’t have to all become Latin-rite worshippers, and the life of the Church would be spiritually poorer if we did. .

I agree . And these conversions will only lead to more 🙂

My Priest and his family converted a while back because of the allowance female priests. He’s excellent and we are so blessed to have him.
