Angry, but at whom?

I turned on my TV today to find no Turner classic movies, no CNN, no cartoon network and other channels are gone as well. This is on Dish Network. The cable here is awful and lacks many stations including EWTN.

But who should I be angry with? Dish for wanting to control costs. or Ted Turner who is price gouging?

What really galls me is that with CNN gone the only cable news I can get are the far left MSNBC or the far right Fox News. I dislike both of them since I tend to be Moderate.

Perhaps you are angry at yourself? This may be a “sign” that it’s time to ditch the TV. You could use the money you spend on Dish on something better.

I’ve been without TV since the late '70s. Life is much better without it. Tho I suppose some would say my life would be better without the Internet - but I do have to suffer with dial-up!

I don’t watch MSNBC, but FOX NEWS tries pretty hard to be fair. If the extremist baiters who will be belligerent before a favorable audience and friendly venue and politicians afraid of re-election are too scared to accept invites to go on that station, well, that’s not FOX NEW’s problem.

All it tells me is that people have something to hide and/or are deathly afraid of defending their positions to someone who will actually challenge them.

I would encourage you to watch Special Report with Brett Baier and then make up your mind. That show is pretty hard news. Also, Shep Smith on Studio B runs a tight ship on hard news as well.

Ditch the cable/satellite and get a tablet. You can then get the EWTN app. Either watch it on the tablet or patch into your TV.

You can also get Apple TV. Pay a one time 100 bucks for the box and no monthly subscription. Not sure if it carries EWTN but it does have Catholic radio on there.

CNN just had a series of layoffs so I don’t think they are doing well. If you want a reliable news source with a Catholic perspective then check out EWTN Nightly News.

Ted Turner sold out to Time Warner many years ago. Contact both Dish and Turner Networks to tell them how much you want the Turner channels back.

msnbc is really off the charts biased towards the left. CNN a little more moderate and you can find moderate discussion on Fox depending on the host.

24/7 news coverage is terrible anyway. Having said that though I hope EWTN news goes to an hour format.

I can relate. We have basic cable and of the 70 plus channels , but for that we get no EWTN or the protestant channels. It is so frustrating; you’d think they would put those on or let you choose one at the basic cable offering level in order to fulfill the community service obligation. You have to go up a tier or two to get EWTN, which means MORE ****** channels we would have to pay for just to get the good one we want. Because so much of our cable tv fare is vulgar, coarse, violent and smutty programming, we choose not to compound the dilemma with pay channels.Satellite probably has similar issues.

I have resorted to a lot of broadcast and internet radio to get a variety of news and information.

We do, however, get digital-broadcast over the air channels that can be picked up via antenna and as subchannels on our cable! We can get classic TV shows and movies on these channels: Antenna TV, MeTV, BOUNCE TV, THIS, and COZI TV. Not all of this programming is perfect, but much of it offends no one.

I agree, it is greed on the part of both parties. I hope it is settled soon, I really miss CNN and TCM. The only source of sex-free movies.

Maybe, but I live in the country, cannot drive and I am handicapped. It is also hard for me to read since I lack concentration.
I can only spend so much time working with the roses in my rollator chair. TV and Catholic Answers are about the only pass times I have.

I sent an Email to dish complaining. And there is only one other satellite service and they charge considerably more for less programming.

I hope that they resolve this really soon. Usually they try and do that, because they don’t want to lose any customers and have them go elsewhere, like have them change over to cable or to an antenna, Roku, Apple TV, etc.

We don’t have cable TV anymore. We gave it up, due to the expense.

We use our digital TV with an indoor antenna, but since we live in a more rural area, we don’t pick up that many stations. I have to admit that I do miss having cable, although at some point we would like to try and either get it again or get some kind of satellite service.

That’s a different kettle of fish! What about movies & tv shows you like on dvd? Your public library might have them. Some libraries will deliver by mail for free if you can’t get to there.

Cable companies are good at raising ire. I think they consistently rank towards the bottom with regards to customer service. It’s the same with Comcast. They keep raising the price while simultaneously removing channels. I just have the most basic package possible (to get the network channels and PBS) because an antenna would only fuzzily pick up one channel in my area. We used to get TCM and EWTN, too, but not anymore.

I really think that the cable company / network TV infrastructure has not evolved well at all with the digital age. TV used to be pretty much “free” over the airwaves with the advertisers paying the bills. I cannot understand why they do not move to a model whereby anyone can watch almost anything over the internet for free. They have the capability to include commercials that are impossible to skip, for crying out loud. I don’t see how they cannot monetize that.
