i certainly see the passages you quoted as SUPPORTING the idea of animals in heaven, but they’re hardly conclusive. does anyone know if the CCC has a more definitive answer?
CCC 2416 tells us that: “Animals are God’s creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory.”

Isn’t that what we’re supposed to be doing in heaven too? Blessing God and glorifying him? If so, why shouldn’t the animals join us?

That is good, but then that argument can likewise be applied to plants, viruses, and all non-living things as well, since they likewise exist and by their very existence proclaims His honor and glory.

While it is true that animals by their very act of existing gives Him glory, human beings proclaim glory to God not merely by just existing, but by their free, deliberate and conscious act of worshipping God, with the full concurrence of their intellect and will, and their ability to gain a glimpse of His mysteries in a superior degree that animals never can and never could.

I do not know whether there will be animals in heaven. What I do know is that I object to this talk of doggy heaven. Animals do not have souls, despite their wonderful intelligence and their highly sensitive natures.

My dog Ruby also said “ruff” but she said that because she expects me to feed her 😛

Right now, I am more concerned about whether I am going to make it to heaven to worry about whether my stupid cat is going to be there with me or not. As long as I won’t have to scoop his box anymore, I don’t care whether he is there or feeding earthworms.
:bigyikes: I hope your kitty didn’t see you type this!!

That is right and we were created by God to give glory to God. Animals were created for man to have dominion over them. That is why I control my animals and my cat is not going to control me 😃

Well ,we will let God decide if animals are there or not 🙂 God don’t make no junk and animals don’t have any sins,so if they get in, I don’t want to hear a word from any of you anti- animal guys;) 😛 And if they do get in it will be like St.Francis and the animals, and I am going to tattle on you to my chihuahuas and they will get to say she told you so and make you look silly:eek: God Bless

Most of the sources I have read or heard lean towards “no”, still part of me wishes I could be reunited with my favorite pet cats if I make to to heaven with God’s Grace and Help.

I don’t know, I tend to be with the doubters on the “animal heaven” issue. And while it is nice to hope that our pets are there for us to “play with”; considering that even married couples won’t be together in heaven (cf. Matt 22:30), I seriously doubt that our pets will be there waiting for us.

Hi Mtr.How do you know that husband and wife will not be together assuming they were both christian? Let no man seperate what God has put together. Gods will is the same here on earth as it is in heaven. Something to think about. God Bless

True, but then only until death do they part. After death, we will be spirits, like the angels in heaven. There will be no marrying, and giving in marriage.

I have always believed that of course animals have a soul, that is what gives them life, just like us. I also believed at death the sould dies, as they are not made in the image of God and they do not get saved for the afterlife.

But I am not sure this is confirmed in the Bible. And, here is an interesting quote from the Bible that seems to imply animals have a spirit which would imply they could be in heaven:

I said in my heart with regard to the sons of men that God is testing them to show them that they are but beasts. 19 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts; for all is vanity. 20 All go to one place; all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again. 21 Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down to the earth? (Ec 3:18)

Hi Robed, but that is only talking about the death of our flesh here on earth. Guess will have to wait to find out. God Bless.

You’re welcome, and may He bless you abundantly as well!

I sure hope there are animals in Heaven! I find great comfort in that possibility. From my experience, their unconditional love often surpasses the love of many humans. My kitty Frankie has been missing for two weeks now, and may have been taken by coyotes. If so, I pray he is in Heaven. If not, I pray he comes home soon! :crying:

You are probably right. I dont think you have to worry about your cat, thats why it was given 9 lives so that you would not have to worry about it. 😃 God Bless

What if the husband had been committing adultery? Would he end up in heaven with his wife?

ok - corrections:

it was posted: ‘After death, we will be spirits, like the angels in heaven. There will be no marrying, and giving in marriage.’

that’s very CLOSE to what it says, but not quite. we won’t be spirits - we’ll still have bodies. we WILL be like the angels IN THAT we won’t be married. but we WILL have bodies. we won’t just be floating around disembodied.

and the reason that we won’t be married is not, as the logic previously suggested, that marriage (along with other earthly pleasures) will be done away with. rather it’s because it will be transcended.

the idea that ‘we won’t have animals in heaven because we won’t have marriage, which is even better than animals’ misunderstands what happens to marriage and our relationships with one another. our relationships DEEPEN - they aren’t reduced. we grow to know one another MORE - not less.

again - i don’t see anything in the scripture or the teachings of the church that definitively say that there WILL be animals in heaven - but i certainly think it’s consistent with what i know of God, the Bible, and the church.

Immediately after death, everyone will be a spirit, and face particular judgment, where one is consigned to one of the three destinations, either heaven, hell or purgatory. Your body will be in the grave, corrupted, reduced to its basic components. Perhaps you were referring to the final judgment, where our souls will be reunited with our bodies. Still, the fact remains there would be no marriage in the afterlife, because in the first place, for spiritual souls, there is simply no reason for it.
