Hi

I was wondering if any of you know of Non perverted anime shows. I like anime but its just getting to perverted. I like yu yu hakusho, samurai champloo, and trigun. I looking for comedy anime kind of like Fruits Baskets, which I really like, but the only down side was that it was kind of a chick flick.

Anyway just thought I ask you folks.

Thanks
If you want some suggestions, I’d say Sgt. Frog is a good comedy. There’s a little fanservice, but it’s mostly tongue-in-cheek. I second the Ouran reccommendation, with the caveat that there’s some questionable (but usually hilarious) stuff in it. And be warned, it’s girly. 😃

If you want to avoid perverted stuff in general, I’m usually able to do that. I almost always look up video reviews or articles on TV Tropes before I start watching a show. And I pay attention to ratings. There are lots of resources if you look around.

Antonio- why would you assume no ecchi in a harem show? It sounds like a pretty logical place for it to show up.

Currently watching Lupin III Series 1 2 and 3 right now (They’re all available on Hulu!). I’ve really liked the Lupin series for a while, still going through the series though as there’s a lot of episodes and specials and whatnot. Not sure if I like series 1 or 2 more.

Also watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time after so many people have told me to watch it. Really enjoying that as well. And in the pipeline after I finish these I’m going to start watching Blackjack the anime, and Golgo 13, and Sherlock Hound, and Case Closed, all of which are also on Hulu free for streaming…

I’ve got a lot of work to do!

I think Antonio is basically just saying that u can’t trust what a show is “tagged” as. Clannad is generally tagged as a harem show, but it’s far from being an ecchi show. But yes, I do agree that most harems more than likely will have their share of ecchi scenes. ^.^

Based on your 1st three shows that u listed, I think u would like Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Katekyo Hitman Reborn! It’s an action/comedy shounen series. I have to mention, though, for the 1st 19 episodes, it starts off just introducing characters and there’s not a whole lot of plot advancement. But if one can make it to episode 20, oh my goodness, things just keep getting better and better that it’s just ridiculous!!! Almost anyone that has seen this show would testify to how awesome, intense and epic it gets with each arc!

Also, I don’t recall there being anything really outrageous in terms of ecchi scenes, unless u want to call the main male character, Tsuna, having his clothes rip off whenever he gets shot with a deathperation bullet. It’s done in a humorous fashion, though, and reminded me very much of the incredible hulk which made it even funnier and amusing for me. 😃

Also, if u could stomach Fruits Basket, then I think u can stomach Chihayafuru, too! It’s a sports comedy with a lot of drama and inspiring/emotional scenes and sweeping music. Simply great stuff! A lot of guys love this show (I’m one of them, lol). It might be worth checking out.
And in the pipeline after I finish these I’m going to start watching Blackjack the anime, and Golgo 13, and Sherlock Hound, and Case Closed, all of which are also on Hulu free for streaming. I’ve got a lot of work to do!
Yep, u do got a lot of work to do! Also, I’m not sure if u are aware, but Hulu seems to only have 18 eps of Case Closed. @_@ Over at Funi, they have 130 eps of it, currently.

I actually finished Clannad After Story a couple days ago, and I have to say that I can see why it gets the attention and acclamation that it does. However, I will say that I’m probably in the minority that wasn’t quite satisfied with the ending. I mean, I liked it, and yet, I didn’t like it. xD

I also watched a recently released Makoto Shinkai film the other day called The Garden of Words (available for subscribers on The Anime Network). He’s made a lot of tear-filled, yet beautiful movies (5cm per second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, etc), and this was yet another one. ^.^ Kinda short, though, being only 40 some minutes.

Oh, I wanted to mention, too, that the dates, times and theater locations (as well as ordering advance tickets) for the Madoka Magica sequel movie have been recently released: madokamagicausa.com/rebellion/ ~ The U.S. Premiere of it (on Dec. 3) in LA already seems to be sold out, lol! I must say that I’m a bit disappointed that there’s none in my area. The closest to me, I think, is Cleveland, but that’s about 3 hours away! @_@ As much as I’d like to see it, I won’t drive that far just to watch it, lol!

Edit: Wait a sec, looks like one popped up recently close to where I live! About a half hour drive or so it seems… so maybe I will get a chance to watch it, after all! ^.^

Not to mention the fact that ecchi seems to go on a scale.

That reminds me: You should probably avoid most anime that mention sisters or brothers in the title. If you’re that curious, reading a synopsis helps.
Yeah, my question when I hear a show has ecchi is “How much?”

There’s a difference between having a beach episode and some bouncing boobs sprinkled throughout and being, say, Queen’s Blade.

I agree. A little fanservice doesn’t bother me, but when it appears to be the entire point of the show, we’ve got problems.

Has anyone watched Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) before??? I think Sebastian is cool 😃

And it’s so hard to find anime songs nowadays, especially those very old ones like those from CCS and Tsubasa Chronicles and the like… Sighhhh

Yeah, if they aren’t at the usual places like Ebay, CDJapan, then your last bet is always the Japanese Amazon site! 🙂 When using the search engine for this site, u generally want to search using the Kana name of the anime, and for CCS, it’s: カードキャプターさくら

And CCS is there! XD Here’s the 1st OST: CCS OST 1 ~ it seems there are a number of OSTs for the series! Thankfully, somebody made a nice list of them: CCS OST List

For TC (Tsubasa Chronicles), the Kana is: ツバサクロニクル
I believe this is the 1st OST of the TV series: TC TV OST 1 ~ there are many more for the series on there, and they have a list of all of them on Wiki: TC OST List

For both these albums that I linked to, u can listen to the 1st 45 seconds or so, which is really nice. Some of the other albums for the series may be that way, too. ^^

Oh, and I do want to mention, be careful of the bootlegs! ^.^

Anyway, if u need further help, just send me a PM. 🙂

That’s the thing. Lot’s of stuff interest me. I’m more for the seinen, dark stuff. I like some aspects of shounen and I have a guilty pleasure for the shoujo, innocent, stuff (Yes… I like moe not in the way you think. Please don’t hit me).
But some aspects of dark stories are what really keep me on edge.
An older manga called Lone Wolf and Cub was a very dark samurai series about a ronin with a toddler son. Very dark and lots of what you would expect from the era that it is set in…

Don’t forget that iTunes and Amazon here in the US have a decent selection of anime and Japanese music.

Thx, you’re right. 🙂 I’ve actually never really used iTunes as I figured they probably have the same stuff as the U.S. Amazon (in regards to their downloadable/purchasable MP3s)! XD Just now, I checked the songs for ClariS and Kotoko (on both sites), and it seems they have the same songs for purchase/download, but Amazon had some ClariS songs (specifically the Second Story album) that were cheaper. From your experience (or from anyone else), does it seem like these 2 sites share the same music for MP3 download/purchase? And is it generally the same price or does one site tend to be more cheaper than the other?

On another note, I’ve heard that theater tickets are selling out already at some locations for the new Madoka movie. So I went ahead and purchased my ticket last night! XD I just hope it doesn’t snow like 6 inches or so on that day… @_@ I’ll probably skip out on it if that’s the case.

iTunes has a bigger library in general, as far as I know, and their j-music library in particular is bigger.

I think the last 3 episodes of naruto shipudden have been good.I am also watching Kaicho no maid sama and kingdom. There are so many great animes out there now

People looking for rare albums from Japan can also search the Japanese Yahoo Auction site with noppin.com

Noppin is also a nice auction service, although I found japonicamarket.com to be cheaper.

I also know a nice reliable service if you need someone to go somewhere and buy a specific thing. The lady involved is most reliable and fair.

Wow… I can’t believe this! Never thought I’d see the day! But CR just made a big move, and by big I mean GIGANTIC move in partnering with Kodansha to simulpub some of their manga (to about 170 countries)! Here’s the article about it: CR to distribute Kodansha Manga!

So I guess on Oct. 30, AoT will legally be able to digitally read (that’s 2 days from now!!!)! 🙂 Awesome! Just awesome!!
Too bad, only 12 titles will be available in the beginning, but for sure, it’ll expand and get bigger and bigger! Kodansha has been involved with so many manga/anime titles, and a lotta big ones, too, like Fairy Tail (which will also be available on Oct.30), Chobits, FLCL, CCS, Ghost in the Shell, GTO, Hajime No Ippo, etc., so this is a pretty big deal!! A list of titles can be viewed here: Kodansha Titles The Kodansha manga title that I’ll be hoping to see picked up one day would be Dear Boys, since the anime never finished, and the manga was never released here in the U.S., but the manga I believe has gone much, much further. Chihayafuru would be cool, too, but I had heard that it was pretty much the same as the anime, though.

More details about all this should be made available on Oct. 30 when the 12 manga titles become available to view.

On another note, I started watching Steins;Gate, seems to be ok so far. I do think the main male character is a bit too eccentric, though, which for me, is a bad thing, also considering that this show seems like it should have more of a serious tone to it.

IDK why people keep calling Stein’s Gate “serious”. It’s a fun show about nerdy people hanging out and messing with time travel, and it ventures into thriller territory around the halfway point. It’s good at all that, and the thriller elements are effective, but I honestly don’t think there’s anything deeper going on.

I did really like Okabe, though. I honestly thought he was insane at first, but in the end I thought his quirks worked pretty well with the show. He can be serious when he needs to be, and he can be an idiot when that’s what the show requires. Despite his numerous shortcomings, there’s still something admirable about the way he helps his friends out. I think he’s a solid lead, but I guess we can discuss him more when you finish the series. 🙂

As far as the manga news- I wasn’t too excited looking through that list of manga that Kodansha’s been involved with, but then I saw Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, and I kicked into fangirl mode. I wonder if they’ll re-release older titles like that? I read the beginning before I knew that scanlation sites were illegal, and I loved it. It’s pretty slow, but it has a more peaceful atmosphere than anything else I’ve ever read. 🙂

Oh, discuss we shall!!!.. … … … … … … when I finish, lol! 😃 I’m only like 7 eps or so into it, so I have a ways to go still!

It’s a possibility, since they said this in the article, “Manga members will have access to all manga including catalog titles.” U prolly already know, but just in case, “catalog” titles (as far as I understand) are basically titles, or maybe “past seasons” might be a better word, of a show/manga that are completed.
The best thing to do if u want CR’s attention to possibly get the license to legally stream/view a show/manga, would be to let them know about it on their Recommendations thread located here: CR Premium Members’ Recommendation Thread However, u have to have a Premium account to access it! One of the things I always do when recommending a show to them is to give them the MAL scores (since it’s the biggest site around when it comes to anime/manga reviews/scores ~ and I’m sure they know that, lol), and for this particular show, it scored ridiculously high :

Score: 8.76 (scored by 3977 users)
Ranked: #27

The ANN scores were pretty high as well.

Anyway, all this would be great ammunition to use when recommending this manga to CR. And I just read the synopsis for it now, and it seems like a manga I might enjoy. If u can’t recommend this one yourself, I don’t mind doing so since I can see myself possibly enjoying this one. ^^

… I also just noticed the (newer) Battle Angel Alita was another title that was published by Kodansha… man, CR needs to get that one, too, lol!

Hmm, I probably won’t be able to get a premium account anytime soon. I’ll do stuff like that once I become financially independant, but for now, it’s not something I can afford. If you feel like recommending it, all I can do is offer you my thanks. I really do think it’s an excellent manga. :o

I’ve heard of Battle Angel Alita, and it looks cool, too. If they release it, I’ll check it out. 😃

And I look forward to our discussion. 🙂

Kama, I have a CR “All-Access Guest Pass” (valid for 48hours) I can give you. My guest passes usually expire so it may come to some use if you use it :). PM me if you want, it’s no trouble at all.

I’m enjoying it. Thank you so much! 😃

Just finished watching the last episode of Time of Eve. Excellent science fiction! It does bring up some interesting comments on Asimov’s three laws of robotics, and kind of gets into the question of what it means to be human and whether robots or androids would or should have any rights if they possess the ability to interact with each other like humans. It deals with the relationship between humans and technology in a pretty interesting manner. Anyways, great stuff. And truly excellent from a technical perspective, too. 🙂

I think I might take a break and then watch Toradora before the pass runs out. 😃
