Anime Thread #3: You Can (Not) Repost

Been a while since this thread has seen some action!

I have to admit, I’m enjoying Witch Craft Works this season. It’s not my favorite show, but it sure has some funny characters. It needs more Tanpopo-chan!

The other shows I’m keeping up with are (no order) D-frag, Hamatora, Hozuki no Reitetsu, Chu2Koi Ren, and Zvezda. I do want to catch up on Noragami at some point. I really did enjoy the first few episodes. I just list track of it along the way. Might also want to pick Nisekoi back up.

I dropped D-Frag, after the introduction of the second club, it looked like the show was going to go to the vulgar or fanservicey route.

About Zvezda, the uniforms of the little girl and the scientist are terrible. Too revealing.

Recently, I’ve been watching Monster and other old and relatively old series.

D-Frag has avoided almost all the fanservice opportunities that present themselves outside of a few jokes about Takao’s chest, and everyone keeps their clothes on in this anime.

I can see your point about Zvezda, but the show is funny.

I dropped it after the new girl lost the bet, I don’t like these kind of jokes, like the not shown last scene.

From Zvezda there was a little disturbing detail, the older girl sleeping with a pillow with the little girl’s image.

I think is different to, say, Japanese mithology for example. The character is shown using a dangerous real-life object.

And using Japanese-style charms, spells, exorcisms, etc. wouldn’t be dangerous? The Oujia board is just another Western-style spiritual novelty to them.

Not saying I endorse using a Ouija board or would use one so flippantly in something I had written, but I don’t think it’s that big a problem here.

And “dangerous real-life object” could also be interpreted to mean any weapon, too.
 
I am glad to announce that I have a way to watch ecchi anime without sinning! (This might not apply to everyone though)

So just a week ago, I considered watching a few ecchi shows for some experimentation. I tested to consider all those opportunities of sin (skirt and chest scenes) into comedic moments so I laugh at them. Now, 5 days later, they seem to get funnier and funnier each time! I have conquered anime!

But if you are weak in terms of purity and all that, then it’s best not to try this method at ALL. Risking your purity for a stupid method like mine will make me horribly guilty. 😦

I worded bad the phrase. By dangerous, I mean, the risk of demonic posession.

I think testing something like that, would be in itself an ocassion of sin.

…why would you want to? Aren’t ecchi anime generally not very good as anime in general? I would think that to be worth it, you would have to have something with a compelling plot and characters, and I feel like it’s very unlikely to find a true ecchi anime with a compelling plot and characters.

Now maybe if you were talking about inappropriate moments in a show in another genre. Like, I dunno, laughing at stuff in Steins;Gate. I mean, if it works, cool, I guess. But why do you want to watch ecchi?

Yes, I agree that these series usually aren’t very deep or realistic.

Antonio, bit would be better that you watched other series.

There is a difference in say, pool or beach scenes that aren’t very erotic (that is, no suggestive poses, no clothing malfunctions, etc) and not finding these ocassion of sins, that watching something more explicit and intrinsecally problematic.

I got to thinking a while back: even setting the issue of cost aside, I don’t think I’ll be attending many, if any, anime or similarcons in the future. So many of them have officially sanctioned hentai viewing or discussion events that I want no part of and I don’t want my admission fees to fund.

Now, I’ll still buy stuff from the companies that sponsor these cons, but I won’t personally go. If I’m going to cut out all the companies that sponsor these cons, I might as well stop watching anime, playing video games, watching movies by certain studios, or doing a lot of other stuff. Heck, the Atlanta Braves (my local Major League Baseball team) have a partnership with Dragon* Con, one of the biggest Sci-Fi cons in the world, and a con that has hentai related panels. (And I’m quite certain there are similar events in Japan that mainstream anime companies are involved in, even though they’re not the companies promoting or showing the hentai)

Not every con is guilty, but many are.
 
Has anyone here been watching Fantasista Doll? I must admit I was a bit skeptical expecting this to be a harem anime, but it’s not. It’s a shoujo anime with incredible moe elements.

The protagonist is a young girl, Uzume Uno, who comes across a pack of cards loaded in a cell phone. Each of the cards is a girl too and they’ve been created to bond with their “master” and be there for her every wish. The anime follows the bonding between these girls and their master as they overcome their fears, insecurities and suspicion. At the same time there is an element of mystery and a series of ongoing card battles as successive master and her/his cards come after Uzume in order to defeat her cards and win them in order to obtain their most treasured wishes. Some of her enemies turn out to be some of her closest friends though and there are plenty of heart breaking moments as Uzume is forced to either give up her card girls or hurt her friends. Some of her opponent masters are also cruel to their card girls and exploit them to gain their victory and wish. It’s a little reminiscent of Angelic Layer and the main character who is very endearing is significantly much like Misaki in that anime. There is a little bit of fanservice in the series - but very little, so little I would consider it quite insignificant, in fact the series goes out of its way to avoid showing any panty shots and the card girl dolls, even when “undressed” are in opaque underwear.

So who’s seen this show? 🙂

I think is because this season shows… there aren’t many good series airing. Or, people is busy.

My take:
It seems that Japanese are not downloading enough digital music. And to top it all off, many people buy thousands of AKB48/idol CDs just to get an opportunity to shake hands with their favourite idols. Meanwhile popular songs are not counted because divas like Hatsune Miku are not counted as real singers by the IFPI.

Well I’ll take Miku over Kate Perry, Madonna or Miley Cyrus. Ganbatte Miku-chan! 🙂

I’m still on a Star Trek kick, so that’s eating up my free time. I want to finish Nobunagun and some other stuff. It’s just gotten away from me.

Last I had heard, the 2nd season of Prisma Illya is supposedly getting into serious yuri territory (if it follows the manga), but we’ll see. I doubt I’ll be watching it (even though I have seen the 1st - and could barely stomach some of the lewd scenes :confused: ), but if u do end up watching it, please let us know if it does. 🙂
