Ah yes. A brief overview of the TVTropes page reveals useful information. Nuts. The concept is interesting, but alas…

Well, I do try to skim the trope listing on TV Tropes to get an idea of what might be included, something I had previously neglected with the above show. Sometimes it’s hard to tell from what’s on there, though. Actual reviews might be useful, yes (so I can be kind of slow sometimes 🤷😊).

Since I’ve also been somewhat interested in it and a couple people have mentioned it, how about the Idolmaster anime?
Since you mentioned it… yes, tvtropes, and the ymmv and character sub-pages too, but be careful with that site. Is a big timewaster. And sometimes, they don’t moderate their language.

About idolmaster, I haven’t watched the entire series.

Heh, believe me, I am aware. I had to quit the site altogether for some months. It seems to have helped as I can now go there without wasting several hours of my day.

Howdy folks, I guess I’ll just jump in here.

So I’ve been kind of out of the whole manga/anime thing for a bit (aside from I did finish watching Soul Eater on Toonami, and Pretty Cure (no one here likes Pretty Cure? I haven’t seen anyone mention it)), but lately I’ve been sort of getting back into it and finding a couple series I might like to check out. So what I’m getting at I guess is if anyone’s seen them, what do you think of the following:
  • Hyperdimension Neptunia
  • K-ON
  • Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
  • Shugo Chara
  • Gunslinger Girl
Also, is anyone up to date on One Piece? I got caught up at the time-skip and then fell behind again; would kind of like to re-read everything from the beginning, but so much material!
I’ve heard Gunslinger Girl is very disturbing in just about every possible way. Little girls killing and being killed, but without the fantasy aspect of Madoka Magica. And with adult male “handlers”. Who the girls take romantic interest in, in some cases.

I’m not saying it can’t possibly have value (I haven’t seen it), but it sounded really sketchy. At least read reviews to see what you’re getting into.

Hehe. I’m not forced to read tons of it anymore, mostly because I seem to have read the vast majority of the trope pages already. 😃

No, I haven’t seen it.

What is it about?
Space pirates.

No, really.

It’s funny, and strange, and may possibly be considered a cult classic. Uchuu Kaizoku Mito no Daibouken, in Japanese. It’s from 1999, animated by Triangle Staff, whose character designs I really like.

A dreaded space pirate who looks like a little girl except when she’s in her mini-mecha suit tries to re-unite with her half-earthling son, while most of the galaxy is on her trail.

Has no one seen Space Pirate Mito?
Unless that’s an alias of Space Pirate Captain Harlock, then sadly, no, I haven’t. 😛
Howdy folks, I guess I’ll just jump in here.
Hey now, no jumping! :tsktsk: There’s plenty of room here to get in w/out jumping!

I’m generally not much into the magical girl genre these days, so I’ve only seen 1 ep of Shugo Chara not too long ago just to see what all the hullabaloo is about, so I can’t make much of a comment on it. But it does seem like it’s pretty well liked, though. I know I’ve heard rumors of the series being continued, but we’ll see, I guess.

As for One Piece, I don’t really know what in the world is going on anymore in that series, lol. About a decade or so ago, I saw like the first 2-300 eps until I was caught up, then I just forgot about it/lost interest in it for the next few years or so, and I couldn’t really remember where I had left off at exactly, and so I’ve just been watching eps randomly throughout, lol. The last things I remember was Luffy trying to save Firefist Ace, and the ridiculously epic battles that went on during this particular saga.
Seriously, it seems like this series will never end. It is, I’ll admit, one of my favorite series of all time, though. I remember when I first got into the series, I thought it was so good, I marathoned the 1st 200 eps or so in like a couple to few weeks! It was like I was injecting an addicting drug into me. 😛 I couldn’t get enough of it! There’s just so many epic battles, so much drama, and so many tearful, emotional moments, and some really good OP and ED songs as well!
I don’t really like how perverted some of the characters are, though. That’s really it’s main drawback for me now.
I just checked ANN, and it seems they have at least 639 eps, and counting! It’s like the Simpsons, they just keep going, and going, and going. 😃

I noticed CR had gotten GTO Taiwan (the Live Action) series, and so I gave that a good watch. It’s only a 4-ep special, and I guess it’s not bad, considering again, that it’s only 4 eps long. But it really fails (CONSIDERABLY) in comparison to the original LA (Live Action) made, I think, in 1998, and to the anime and the manga, but that’s due to it just being too short, and so there wasn’t ample time to really build up the drama and better flesh-out the characters. The main character, Onizuka, as expected, is a bit ecchi, so yes, there are some perverted scenes interspersed throughout the 4 eps (such as Onizuka’s eyes staring at female breasts, and the camera zooming-in… ~ I think that only happened once, maybe twice). Still, as always it’s interesting to watch Onizuka overcome all these problem high schoolers, and to do it in a rather unorthodox kinda way that u just never know what he may do. I did like, too, how they tried to emphasize three things, the importance of bonds/friendships that u make with other people, that power and money can’t get you everything you want, and trying to run away from bad/difficult memories isn’t the best answer sometimes, especially if it means getting rid of/destroying all the good ones in the process.
There was one scene that just made me lol a bit, too, since there was a flashback scene with certain characters back when they were kids, doing something that one would normally see in an anime (at least, I’m used to seeing it there, lol): making a “promise” to do a certain something in the future. 😃

Lastly, does anyone want a free CR guest pass? I have a few of them to get rid of. If you’d like one, just send me a (preferably) friendly PM. 😛 Otherwise, I shall dispose of them through other methods.

Nope…Space Pirate Mito and Captain Harlock: different. 😃

What is CR?

Crunchyroll. Super awesome anime resource for people with limited funds, such as yours truly.

I would take a pass and watch Toradora finally, but I’m busy this weekend. No time for anime OR Star Trek. I hope someone else gets to watch something fun with them!

Aw, c’mon now… :whackadoo: (Almost looks like it’s jumping…)

Well, the manga is from PEACH-PIT, who also did Rozen Maiden (which I need to find some way of finishing), so I know that I at least like some of their work. And as far as I’ve been able to find, there doesn’t seem to be anything weird/objectionable about it as I’ve found out for some of the other shows I listed, so I think I’ll go ahead and check it out when I have some time.

Oh man, I haven’t even thought about going back to the anime, haven’t seen that since Toonami stopped airing it the first time back in like 2007 or whatever. It is a great series, but the length is insane, definitely. I’d like to re-read the manga, but there’s no way I could afford to buy the series (I stopped after volume 8, and that was maybe 6-8 years ago) and the library here doesn’t have all of the volumes, so I don’t what I’d do to read it. It’s kind of funny when you read that Oda apparently only intended the series to run for like 5 years or something originally.

Heck, even BLEACH is ending soon, or so I’ve heard.

Anyone hear this?

“Lady Gaga” wants to deface Hatsune Miku by having her in one of her concerts.

Just say NO. Say YES to MIKU. Say NO to Gaga. And not mixing Miku with that bleh filth.

Woah, where have you been? I haven’t seen you around here in ages.
Stuff happened. Views changed. Watched a lot more anime and read up on new series in the process though. 8P

But yeah, I’m more or less back.

‘~’ guys to be honest I don’t think I’ll be able to finish watching Trigun.I might just watch JesuOtaku’s spoiler heavy “Inbetweener” vids.I don’t wanna underestimate the work amount that school can do seeing as how nigh-messed over I was at times throughout this school year.I’ll say that for now…

has anyone here who’s seen “Final fantasy:the spirits within” thinks it’s still a decent sci-fi movie if you take out the connection to the FF franchise?.I really wish I could find a Latino spanish dub of it to watch.

I don’t think she ever actually finished those. They only go up to like episode 18 or so, IIRC, and Trigun has a pretty cool final third. But if you don’t have time, then you don’t have time. Anime is just a hobby, after all. 😉

It’s decent for sci-fi I guess but the fact that it’s that and carries the Final Fantasy label still turns me off. No offense but I’m really a swords and sorcery in the end. I’m still trying to figure out what part of the film was even remotely Final Fantasy.

(I gotta admit though. Aki’s pretty hot and the movie really set a standard for future FF CGI femmes.)

Hitsugi no Chaika!!!

Chaika The Coffin Princess…

Wow. So far two episodes are very good. The heroine is a quiet gothloli. She fires a big magic gun at monsters and magic. Her father was a very bad guy and it looks like she’s being used to bring him back to power, but she is joined by a brother-sister duo of saboteurs. Nice show so far. 🙂

Brother and sister?

There is nothing suspicious? because considering recent series…

I’m watching Ishuukan Friends.
