Ann Coulter is a professional WASP .She is seen and has spoken at many fundamentalist venues-enough said.
I voted for G.B.II twice-I was a republican. I’ve been a teacher of scripture for five years now. When bush went about touting his christianity and then in the next breath justifying his use of torture-well that was my breaking point.Don’t speak glowingly of your righteous Christianity then extol the virtues of torture and capital punishment.I had to make a decision.Was republican first, or a catholic, was I conservative first or a believer, was I an American first or a Christian?I had to chose.From beginning to end of the Bible ,God’s love of the poor,the downtrodden,the transient, those in desperate straits,those forgotten,those damaged ,those hurting,those in need, those in pain supercedes any national or political agenda.So I became an independent in all my ways of thinking .That doesn’t mean I don’t get angry or have my moments of jingoism but I try not to have a knee-jerk response and try to ponder what Scripture says, what the church says before I act and(sometimes!)when I speak.

Distracted - how do you think you might have reacted if I / or anyone / had said this to you?

A response you have used, which I believe has actually been unwarranted as you have used it in this and other threads is to accuse the author of ad hominem and say that therefore it doesn’t warrant a reply from you.

I find it really disturbing that you are able to ‘rest your case’ to accuse me of being not Christian - apparently for not liking Ann Coulter - and apparently you do not recognize that you in fact are the one who continually uses criticism or attack of the person who proposed the argument as an attempt to discredit the argument.

Wonderful post - and I agree completely, and try as you do - no political party for me, I find it so offensive when someone tries to use Christianity as a political tool - AND - I think the rhetoric is really actually reaching dangerous levels today. Peace!

And if not for the likes of the Ted Kennedy’s of this country perhaps others too might not have been aborted and might now be able to attend college.

I am sick of the ‘Welfare Staters’ giving credit on the one hand and ignoring the evil on the other.

I worked my way through college and believe me when I say my effort was made in the face of disabilities and I asked for no charity to achieve my goal. How about being grateful to the taxpayers who paid for those ‘accommodations’ and not to the man who lived a privileged life without ever answering for his misdeeds?

One thing is for sure…to assist in abortion in any way is an excommunication offense…so the least we can do is pray for the poor guy…
 
I couldn’t even get past the first PAGE of this. I am about as right-wing as you can get and her comments still disgust me. Most of the Republicans I know can’t stand her either. She cares about no thoughts but her own. If someone disagrees, then she degrades them and makes disparaging comments about them, etc. She is so judgemental it makes me sick. Christians are not supposed to be judgemental, though it does happen because we are human. She takes it to a whole new level, though.

She makes me embarrassed to be a Republican.

You’ll notice I’ll never defend his abortion stance. But considering I’d probably be nowhere near Gettysburg College today if it wasn’t for the Americans With Disabilities Act, I figure that the least I can do is pay thanks in my signature. The ADA ended up being a life-changing act for me, so I think it would be extremely ungrateful of me not to mention it.

I’m not ignoring the wrongness of Ted Kennedy’s stance on abortion, but how do you say “Thanks, but you’re a terrible evil person and you’ve never done anything good in your life”?

First of all, don’t put accommodations in quotes like I didn’t need them. I needed them badly; I couldn’t even read my own handwriting. I also don’t appreciate the implication that I undeservingly asked for anything; I was in third grade when I got a word processor through the ADA, and I was in middle school before I actually learned that the ADA had anything to do with it. It was my wonderful teachers and my wonderful parents who did that for me; I’m grateful to them, too, for obvious reasons, but considering none of them died this week, and considering I’ve had the opportunity to thank them many times, I think it’ll be all right if just for a little while, I thank Ted Kennedy.

My accommodations were a small thing, they really were. That doesn’t mean they weren’t life-changing. I now have my own laptop, bought with my own money, and I’ve used that ever since I was a freshmen in high school. But without that first accommodation, which I got when my family could never have afforded a word processor for my everyday use, I never would have gotten to that point. Some small help early that made a huge difference in my life.

We can argue about whether she was trying to be satirical or not (no one really knows but her). Either way, she has made some disgusting remarks about others. If a Democrat said these things Republicans would be ALL over it (and, again, I AM a Republican).

Bluntness, honesty and satirical nature may well have been qualities of those who over the last 8 years loudly disagreed with the Bush administration - but they are not the topic of this thread.
