Italian widow, foundress to be beatified
October 01, 2010
Venerable Anna Maria Adorni (1805-93), a wife and mother who founded the Congregation of Handmaidens of Blessed Mary Immaculate of Parma after her husband and all six of her children died, will be beatified on October 3. Archbishop Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, will preside at the beatification, which will take place in the northern Italian city of Parma.

It is remarkable to me that a woman who lost her husband at age 39 and then lost all six of her children to death made the following remark:
“If a happy person has existed in life, it is I.”
She is an inspiration to me and to all.
