So, like many others, Anne’s Jesus just happens to agree 100% with everything she thinks is ok.

What are the odds?

Earlier this year, Anne Rice shared a monologue otalking about her life, before she lost her faith, while it was absent, and then after her faith returned.
blog.beliefnet.com/idolchatter/2010/03/christ-haunted-anne-rice-share.html

It may be meaningful that she talks about being Catholic during her childhood, but not after returning to Christ. She seems to be focused on her personal relationship with God.

I am just guessing, but from that testimony, and her statements on her Facebook page today, I think she will finish her trilogy on Christ. I don’t think she has lost sight of God. What she did today was to reject what she sees as human traditions which are contrary to God.
And, until she explicitly says otherwise, there is no reason to assume that she will no longer participate in Catholic Eucharism.

She might have been close to christ, but she was facing away from Him and looking only at the crowd.
That should be "C"hrist. I have slapped my typing fingers with a ruler.

BTW, the latest Envoy magazine contains an article, written by Millicent Fairweather, entitled “The Problem with Vampires”.

As Ann Rice was lured away from faith once before, she has once again fallen prey to the influence of powers and principalities.

But then who will save their souls?

Seriously. Though her tantrum deeply offended me, and sounds like she drank Mr. Clean, then fell off the roof and landed on her head, what of her soul?
The mistaken assumption here, is that they were somehow saved by “becoming Catholic”. In fact this person never believed in the Magisterium, and never accepted the Catholic faith. At least now that she “leaves” the church again, she realizes that she’s not a real Catholic. The first step in changing is to be aware that something is wrong. Now at least she realizes there’s a problem.

I believe that she did…Her book speaks of the things she had trouble understanding as things that…She said that she did not have to understand many things; it was enough for her to trust that God knows & understands. 🤷 To me, that was a profound and almost childlike (NOT childish) faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour.
I am not quoting here…Just saying what struck me as what we all have to do at some times in our lives…If we are believers, we have to say, “OK, Lord, I don’t get this part, but I will place it in your hands”. (A long-ago British Methodist pastor once said that "Every Christian needs to have a mental file marked ‘Awaiting Further Light’. " I believe this is :thumbsup:true).
As I say: This is a deeply confused woman who desperately needs the prayers of all of us.
I will trust your judgement in this matter. You seem to have looked into it.
I would also like to suggest possible demonic influences. The Devil is enjoying this no doubt.
I will pray for her. Thank you.

Anne Rice’s announcements via Facebook.
“As I said below, I quit being a Christian. I’m out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.”

“For those who care, and I understand if you don’t: Today I quit being a Christian. I’m out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being “Christian” or to being part of Christianity. It’s simply impossible for me to “belong” to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I’ve tried. I’ve failed. I’m an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.”
Notice that she hasn’t give up on Christ, just “Christianity”.
She has met God and he is her.

She has just shown her true colors. She was a cafeteria Catholic all along. And her two Jesus books didn’t top the sales charts like her vampire novels. I am curious what her new marketing strategy will be.

Paul
It is interesting that she has recognized the problem of being a Democrat and following Christianity.

I would also like to suggest possible demonic influences. The Devil is enjoying this no doubt.
I will pray for her. Thank you.
Amen! She is following the leading of a passing spirit. The spirit which confuses. The spirit which clouds reason. The spirit which leads astray. You have the answer.

Discrimination against gay and lesbian people IS based on WHO THEY ARE…not what they do…no matter what frame of reference is used to justify it…those of us branded “liberal” do not abandon God…we abandon falsehoods perpetuated in the name of “religion”.
.
What homosexuals do defines who they are.

But isn’t having sex something that you do.
Who one has sex with does not define specifically what one’s sexual orientation is.

I know several gay men who were married to women…but that didn’t make them straight.

It is the conservative branch of Christianity that wishes to make this about the sex act…not the particular orientation one posseses. One is not homosexual because they have sex with someone of the same sex…they have same sex partners because they are homosexual. Much much more is involved than just sex…but I’m sure you realize that as a straight person…you are heterosexual I presume…while sexuality is PART of who you are…it is not ALL of who you are.

But isn’t having sex something that you do.
Exactly.

And it is at the best, gravely disordered—at the worst, mortally sinful.

Wrong as you could be, Pub. We love them so much we have no wish to see them in Hell.

Who one has sex with does not define specifically what one’s sexual orientation is.
Concerning the phrase “sexual orientation”. Now I am led to believe there are two “sexual orientations” but I don’t get why is that the case, I remember watching a documentary where a paedophile claimed that he had a “sexual orientation” towards children. Now why shouldn’t I believe him?

And then why can’t there be sexual orientations towards pornography, sexual orientations towards animals, etc.

So if I accept attraction towards children as a “sexual orientation” and still believe paedophilia is outside of God’s design, why can’t I have a parallel approach with same sex sexual relationships.
I know several gay men who were married to women…but that didn’t make them straight.
Funny that I know of some ex-gays who now are in marital relationships with the opposite sex. Both of these examples show me that it is possible to change one’s sexual behaviour.
It is the conservative branch of Christianity that wishes to make this about the sex act…not the particular orientation one posseses.
But that is exactly what the Catholic Church (which in this case I believe is very reasonable as another member of the “conservative branch of Christianity”) believes. As I understand it, it does not believe one’s sexual orientation is wrong…whether it is same sex sexual relationships or sexual relationships with children or an attraction towards pornography or an attraction towards animals or any other attraction. It is specific sexual acts that are outside of God’s design.
One is not homosexual because they have sex with someone of the same sex…they have same sex partners because they are homosexual.
The paedophile says exactly the same thing concerning their orientation.
Much much more is involved than just sex…but I’m sure you realize that as a straight person…you are heterosexual I presume…while sexuality is PART of who you are…it is not ALL of who you are.
But here is the crux,

Having sex is not an automatic activity like breathing. I can still choose to have sex and I can still choose not to do so.

I do understand that it is very difficult for one to change their sexual behaviour and it may or may not be impossible for them to change whatever attractions they might have. I also observe it is also very difficult to quit smoking or shooting up. But difficult is not the same as impossible.

Sorry…but the argument supporting homosexuality to me implies we are robots.

:tsktsk:

No, it’s not. I don’t appreciate being told what I-or anyone else with a fundamental issue with the lifestyle-do and don’t do, especially in such a condescending manner. You have no idea who I am, or why I do what I do, and I’ll thank you to keep statements of such sweeping ignorance to yourself in the future.
You and I disagree…that’s ok…we can disagree…Truth is often “fought out” in the public arena…eventually one by one hearts are changed…one by one people begin to see the gulf between what the modern sciences teach and what conservative religion teaches…those of us who are “liberal” embrace both the science and the spirit…we don’t “throw the baby out with the bathwater”…the water the baby is sitting in is dirty…we need a clean tub to wash the child…and one by one hearts are changed.
Gosh, Publisher, arrogant much? You are certain that you are right and everyone who disagrees is, bless their poor little backwards hearts, still wrong.

Really? And how is it that you know that the ‘modern science’ you are so fond of isn’t being affected by the secular world and what it desperately wants to be true? Not so long ago, modern science dictated that bleeding was the best way to cure a fever, mercury was medicinal, and frightening images shown to a pregnant woman would disfigure the CHILD within. 👍

Do you not understand that there is no problem with a celibate homosexual receiving the sacraments? It is no different than me, as a single woman, receiving the sacraments. Provided all things are in order-eg, no mortal sin, etc. There. Is. No. Difficulty.

I suppose you find no problem with homosexual marriage, eh? Never mind that God Himself ordained marriage to be between a man and woman. THAT is the CRUX of why active, practicing homosexuality is problematic. It is sexual relations OUTSIDE the bond of marriage and that, regardless of the age, gender, or species of the participants, is not of God. I realize that the Society of Friends hasn’t decided where to stand on the issue, and that a wide range of belief exists within the Society, but that doesn’t mean it is right at the expense of all others who HAVE decided to take a stand. Remember what is said about being lukewarm?

Most prejudice received by homosexuals is due to the flamboyant and conspicuously lewd displays in parades and protests-and even everyday living via communes, etc-made by proponents of that lifestyle. I don’t want to see-and I most certain don’t want my child viewing-any displays of or references to sexuality of ANY kind.

I suspect that is the base of the gut response of most everyone exhibiting prejudice.
Tell me, Publisher, is that not my right?

She sinned by her formal heresy anyways. If anything, she probably caused scandal to the faithful who might have read her stuff. At least now they can see that her errors are not compatible with the Catholic faith. Mary, pray for her.

Wow. Poor Anne. Her life has been weird and difficult since day one. I know we should pray for her (and those possibly led astray by her statements and her body of work), but I had sort of a funny feeling this might happen all along. 😦

I don’t believe she…nor I for that matter…have abandoned Eternal Truths…we both cannot blind ourselves to the image of Christ we see in those who are so very different from us…as Ghandi said…“I have no problem with Christ…it is His followers I have problems with.”(paraphrase)

The “leper” she is called to reject in the name of Christ…wears the face of Christ Himself…and THAT she cannot do…I understand her anguish.
But Jesus healed the lepers. He didn’t just leave them as they were and try to make them feel better about being in that condition.
