Anne Rice: Catholic Church is “dishonorable…dishonest…an immoral church…”
Novelist and Unvert Anne Rice (who is also a Notable Catholic Commentator, according to Nicholas Kristof) was recently interviewed by her homosexual son, Christopher, and spoke at length about the Catholic Church. The MetroWeekly has transcribed some of “highlights” (and also has the videos); here are a few:
  • ‘‘I am completely confident that gays are winning the battle for equal rights in our country. And that the battle for same-sex marriage will be won. And that Don’t Ask, Don’t tell is going down.’’
  • ‘‘I hadn’t been a Catholic for 38 years, so I began to study it. I began to live it… And I came to the conclusion 12 years later that it was not a fine religion, that it was dishonorable, that it was dishonest, that it’s theology was largely sophistry… and that it was basically a church that told lies. And that it was for me, for my conscientious standpoint, an immoral church; and I had to leave it.’’
  • ‘‘They’re very eager to blame the liberals, but the liberals have had no power in the Church all these years. And 75% of the priesthood and the hierarchy are gay.’’

Wow, she’s such a force and influence in my life…I must at once renounce my faith leave the Catholic Church! :rolleyes:

Anne Rice shouldn’t go away mad…she should just go away. Period.

After I find out who Harry Crumb is, I will try to find out just whom Anne Rice is and why she is important;).

To be blunt, she annoys the bleeeeeep outta me, and I think she’s nuts. She’s causing scandal and leading the innocent astray and I’d like to paintbrush her.

But here’s where the Catholic in me kicks in: we should probably ask Sr. Dymphna to pray for her.

She irks me to no end, but I took a deep breath and tried to be charitable by deleting my post. But…LOL. Praying to Saint Dymphna would be a great idea. 👍

I never knew anything like that about her, she was one of my favorite book writers, that’s way too bad,… 😦

LOL. Agreed.
 
The woman sounds absolutely nuts and like she’s working through some serious emotional issues in a public way. Until recently she was very vocal in standing up for the faith. Now this. Insane. I guess she just has to defend her son’s homosexuality as normal so that means turning her back to her faith (for the second time) and completely twisting the teachings of the church. It all goes back to her support for gay rights and feminism.
Usual boring leftie stuff, but she’s probably causing some damage among her Catholic fans.
 
Anne Rice, for misplaced compassion in her son’s sin,
has turned away from the Church that would save both.

She has called sin to that which was not, and has celebrated that which was actual.
For she called bad, good and good, she called bad,
the very practice warned of by the prophets:

she practices to become the new patron saint of “social justice,”
one who ignores the truth and soul of the faith, in order to support other interests.

If you do not want to be saved, that is fine, but do not take down others with you, and endanger other souls. You spread scandal to those who listen to you.

Thats sad. To go from a fallen away Catholic to atheist then back home. Only to leave again.

I am dumbfounded by some of the comments about the church being dishonest and immoral. It seems pretty bigoted to make such generalizations. How can someone go to hating the Church so quickly? I don’t think she understood the nature of the Church or christian anthropology.

Like I said, very sad.

We can only pray for her.
 
Did I read or hear that Anne Rice has a homosexual son or daughter?

My experience is that many parents change their views when they discover that one of their children is gay. This is a result of their unconditional love, and I don’t fault it. I might feel the same way in a similar situation. Anne Rice may go overboard, but I think we should beware of judging her with too much bitterness. She did, after all, return to the Catholic Church after being away for many years. We hailed her upon her return and headlined that return.

The Catholic Church needs to work through its views on gays and come up with a less harsh homophobic position. There seems to be evidence that a high proportion of the Catholic clergy is gay - most of the sex predators victimized teen boys, I believe. Most of those gay priests probably are celibate, and some probably were attracted to the priesthood as a possible ‘cure’ as well as a hiding place for their sexual orientation. Be that as it may, the image of the Catholic Church today is that it is aggressively homophobic, and that should change.

Homosexual acts ARE and ALWAYS WILL BE immoral, sinful, and wrong. That is the truth.

In what way has the truth been compromised, and by whom?

And what kind of ‘love’ is it that says to a child, here, have your poison, your soul-killing poison, as long as it makes you feel good about yourself.
