Yes, but when it comes time to repeat the readings in the vernacular and give the homily, you still have to choose a language. The question of which vernacular is going to continue to come up in a multicultural society.

In Lourdes during the international mass they reading are use most common vernacular language that are French English and Italian. But then it depends on the what pilgrimage are there and the number

“Smudging” is a process akin to our use of incense. Some Native Americans burn different things and use the smoke to “purify” the surroundings. They like to burn sage around here. The smoke is horrible – it can really clear out a room fast.
Thank you! That’s a new word I’ve learned today.

I’m sure the devil is delighted to know people will miss out on Mass if other languages are used.

Well I would’t have made a show of it, but I probably would have snuck out one of the back fire exit doors.

Something about this post does not seem right. African tribal dancers dancing to rap music? That does not make sense.

@littleflower

I read the first article. It was about racism. I’m not racist. I don’t mind anyone race being part of the congregation. I think your insinuation is pretty rude.

But mass is mass. I don’t want it to turn into a show of “it’s a small world”.

As far as I know mass should be in the local vernacular (ie English where I’m from). Not random languages because one or two parishioners, who speak English, May be descendent from a non- English culture.

Again I’m here for mass not an education on different cultures. If I wanted to learn more about another culture I’ll get a PenPal, go on vacation, read a book, talk to someone, or maybe take a class at the local community college.

@Cory, I sincerely apologise. There were two articles, similar headlines—trying to find the correct one now. I have removed it from the post. The correct one deals with African American Masses. Again, sorry!

We have separate Masses for other languages. If a reading is said in a different language then the overhead projectors will have it’s English translation.

Having Tribal dancers in Masses is polycentric. I would be concerned with what is being spiritually expressed in that dance, as often (not always) indicates tribal religious rituals.
This is a misuse the word ‘tribal’. ‘Tribes’ can be Catholic. They are simply descent groups, like families. ‘Tribal’ does not mean ‘pagan’ or ‘non-Christian’. I work with lots of tribal people. Some are Catholic.

The most beautiful Mass I’ve ever been a part of was when I was received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. They had the regular choir, African drummers, the spanish language choir, the Phillipino choir, and also sang in Latin and Italian. The variety of languages was not an impediment to the Mass, instead it was a strong reminder that the Church is universal, and all around the world there were people glorifying God in countless languages.

Again, you walked out of Mass!!! Because it wasn’t what you “wanted”. I’d be thinking very hard about what prompted you to get up and leave Christ’s Holy Mass. This honestly reads like something from The Screwtape Letters. I’m sure Satan was grinning to see how easy it was to get someone to leave.

Well I attend Mass at the Abbey most times with the monks. That most likely speaks for itself.

Don’t miss the Eucharist! That is the point of the Mass! It is probably like the sin of skipping mass if you miss being present for the Eucharist!

You aren’t sure it’s invalid, perhaps go on your parish website and look at the mass times to see if that is singled out for various reasons, or if a different priest serves near.
That is the mass…I don’t think mass can ever be annoying, perhaps all the trimmings around it.
🙂 I kinda think the title should be different ,if I could say that gently

I also do not like it when the Mass is being used as aome kind of show.

Cardinal Sarah said the Mass is not the avenue to showcase one’s culture.

It fells like they making the mass more pages and is taking away from real form of the mass

I’m not sure that I’ve ever been to an “annoying Mass.” I certainly have attended Masses where annoying people were on display and the Masses themselves were more heartbreaking than anything else.

Liturgical abuses really shouldn’t be tolerated. Here is an article I read a while back about addressing liturgical abuses in your parish. It’s definitely not easy to get people to listen to you, unfortunately.
