I was just behind a woman on the high way with a bumper sticker that read “If you don’t trust me with a choice, why would you trust me with a child?”

I can only say AUGHHHHHHHHH!!! :banghead: :banghead:

It’s about *her *choice, and whether or not we trust her, not about whether or not the child should be murdered.

Personally, for someone to publicly display such a morally shallow belief disregarding the life of a child, then I don’t trust them with the choice or the child.

Sorry. Vented a bit. I just hate to see such an obvious evil not only defended, but trivialized and marginalized in such a petty manner.

Blessings to all.

I’m not normally into bumper stickers, but the one I did used to wear was:

It’s a child, not a choice.

You are right; I would not trust them with a child or a choice, for they are one in the same and clearly this woman means to permit herself to harm the “choice.”

“If you don’t trust me with a choice, why would you trust me with a child?”
I’ve learned from Catholic Moral Theology that when a comment is made that opposes Church Teaching, that no matter how “true” that statement might sound - you can be 100% sure in knowing that is in error.

The trick is in finding where that error is. That’s where orthodox Catholic Moral Theology and Philosophy come in handy.

In examining the first part of the statement, it says “If you don’t trust me with a choice”. Actually, as the killing of an innocent is always is a*** concrete moral evil*** (a violation of one of the 10 Commandments done in a concrete action, set in a concrete circumstance) - it could not have been a vaild coice to begin with.

Here, the statement has clearly gone wrong in it’s very first presumption. It would be like the moral equivalent of saying “You don’t trust me to shoot you in the head for no reason …”.

In the second part of the statement, it asks "why would you trust me with a child?: The answer is simple. Because in that circumstance, that person has chosen to do a concrete moral good.

Having then performed a morally good action (i.e., not killing an innocent human being), why would I not trust her with a baby? Because at that point, she would have demonstrated sound moral principles, which would then imply that she is now trustworthy.

I love the series that I had taken on Catholic Moral Theology, because it has allowed me to see through all the confusing “muck” out there that is trying to convince us that good is evil, and evil is good.

Say a prayer for whoever was driving the car and/or put the bumper sticker on it!

I used to get very angry when I saw the “Darwin” symbol on cars – you know, like the Christian fish symbol with feet. Then I realized how misled these people are and started to turn my anger into sadness and compassion and pray for them.

Whenever I see “choice” used in this context I :banghead: . Being able to choose a toothpaste is one thing. This is something else. Some “choices” are so intrinsically wrong that society is right to ban them. Plantation owners can no longer “choose” to own slaves, for example. There are lots of other “choices” we don’t allow: drinking and driving, drugs, prostitution. The bumper sticker quietly ignores the fact that the choice is between a living baby and a dead one.

On a lighter note regarding the Darwin symbol, if it’s mounted belly-up it sends quite a different message.

:clapping: Outstanding post!

And that “War on Choice!” on Gilmore Girls. Irritates me to no end. Actually keeps me from watching the show. Propaganda everywhere.

Outstanding post!
You are extremely kind mercy!

But I must give credit where credit is due, and everything that I’ve learned about the basics of sound Catholic Moral Theology comes from the clear and distinct teachings of Msgr. William Smith; Professor of Catholic Moral Theology.

He is now an Academic Dean at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y.

You may read more about the life of Msgr. Smith here:
religiouslife.com/f-msgrsmith.phtml

You can download some of his audio talks here from EWTN:
ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/file_index.asp?SeriesId=6608&pgnu=

And you can download a guest appearance of his on Catholic Answers Radio here:
ftp://radio.catholic.com/calive/1998/ca980917.rm

I’ll tell 'ya, after listening to only a few minutes of the 1st tape in his 10 tape series on The Fundamentals of Moral Theology, I quickly realised that this was going to be a gem. So I decided to make a perfect transcript of the entire series (took me over 4 months and totals well over a several hundred pages).

**Best thing I ever did! 🙂 **

So to anyone interested in the TRUE Teachings of the Church, you may purchase Msgr.'s tape series on The Fundamentals of Moral Theology here:

Or you may look at many more of his wonderful tapes that are available here:

Thank You Again, Msgr. Smith!

I had a great instructor on moral teaching as well. A Jesuit teacher, name Fr. Patrick (Packy) Boyle. My bumper sticker shows an ultrasound picture and the caption is “Woman, behold your Son!”

As the serpent said to Adam and Eve as he handed them the forbidden fruit, “Who decides?” “It’s your decision!” He was the original pro-choicer.

Shallow and self serving statement. Our culture is willing to engage in almost any level of lying to itself to attempt to legitimise easy access to sex without consequence. Abortion - the largescale culling on humans - is deemed OK as long as we can fornicate in peace.

My favorite bumper sticker says:

“Vote Pro Choice” - Satan

I laughed for an hour.

The irony is that Darwin was a Christian and now people are trying to make these “Darwin fish” to be against Christianity. I don’t think Darwin himself would approve.

That’s great!
We used to have one that said “Abortion: the most unjust execution - Pope John Paul II” but it got torn off. Now we have one that says “It is a poverty that a child should die so you may live as you choose - Mother Theresa”.

I remember one that said “As a former fetus, I’m against abortion.”

Another said “I’m lucky I was born before Roe v. Wade”.

In college, abortion was discussed in a sociology class. The professor was pro-life, but he quoted a pro-choice advocate who, though he defended keeping abortion legal, often argued with shallow pro-choice argumentssaying “Abortion is no more medical than the death penalty is electrical.”

I like one my sister saw: “If it’s not a baby, you’re not pregnant.”

Greetings…

We are fortunate in Florida, in that we were able to make available a “Choose Life” license plate (with the additional fee towards pregnancy centers).

For awhile, it caused quite a stir with the vocal minority; they wanted their own plate also. (Can you imagine the slogan it might have had…“Choose Death” perhaps?)

Do any other states have such a plate?

May His peace be with you…

I have one on my car that says “Abortion is homicide” and another that says “Smile your mom was pro-life”

There’s a pro-abortion bumper sticker out there that says:

IF YOU DON’T LIKE ABORTION, DON’T HAVE ONE!

One of my teachers used to say that he thought a good response would be:

IF YOU DON’T LIKE RAPE, DON’T RAPE ANYBODY!

It’s the same logic!

Very true. One of the most brilliant things about the pro-death crowd was turning this moral issue into one about choice, women’s rights, or medical privacy. It’s an ace up the sleeve of people who are morally and intellectually shallow.
