Someone once said in a debate: “We are all atheists. We both do not believe in Zeus etc. I just believe one less God than you!”.
How do we respond to that?
Thanks!!
The debater is stating a belief. He believes in something, i.e.: a universe without God; so you can ask him what leads him to believe such an odd thing. He is expressing some idea about the world that can be understood, discussed, and hopefully can lead toTruth.
The ppl who are frustrating to talk to, say, “I don’t believe in God.”
Unless this approach changes, there is no point of contact, no mutual sharing of ideas and you are left defending a position to which anyone can simply say, “Don’t believe it!”
It would be like, where I personally, don’t believe in reincarnation; so it is up to the other person to try to convince me it is possible, probable and true. I would begin to communicate with the other person only once i start talking about my beliefs.
just saying, 'cause as flippant and annoying as the debater was, there seems to be a hope of mutual understanding.
