I am tired of feeling objectified by women staring at me. They think I have a lot of money. It drives me insane I’m starting to believe Sartre had a point when he said, “hell is other people”. Anyway I find it disgusting I think at least in a school setting the genders ought to be segregated in a way so that this kind of behavior stops.

why do you think you look like you have a lot of money?

Are you wearing expensive clothes or driving a fancy car? Start dressing like a bum for a while. If they are after your money they will run a mile.

Is sitting at the back an option? I know at school it might not be, but if you can, it’s worth a try.

When people stare at me, I kind of stare back as if to say “Can I help you?” If that doesn’t work, I smile at them like I’m saying “Hello” then avert my eyes and ignore them.

It’s creepy, isn’t it?

i think you know you attract attention or you wouldnt have posted

if it bothers you you are paying to much attention to others

peace

I don’t really wear expensive clothing or drive a fancy car. I do travel and spend half the summer living in Eastern Europe working. Its hard because I like telling people about some of the cool places I visit and I guess that gives it away.

Are they staring at you because you look like a “foreigner”, compared to the other people where you currently live?

**First off, when i was younger I used to be attractive enough to attract a lot of male attention. It was unwanted (mostly) and often downright creepy (when the guys were as old or older than my dad). So I can sort of understand where you are coming from. BUT I think you are really over reacting.

As Christians we are called to charity. In that vein, we are supposed to ascribe the best possible motives to others’ behavior unless they prove otherwise. I am sure that there are some girls who stare at you because they “want” you because they think you’re rich. But I bet a lot of them are admiring something about you, or thinking other positive things. Not everyone who looks/stares at a member of the opposite sex is being crude or lustful.

Another thing…have you EVER stared at a girl with lustful thoughts? Maybe you think that just because you do, that everyone does? Have you ever admired a woman’s beauty, or hairstyle, or “look” without having lustful thoughts? It is possible and it may be very likely with the girls who are staring at you…

but I do agree with you on one point…schools should go back to being all girl and all boy. Especially in the years approaching puberty and beyond. It is hard enough to focus on learning without the thoughts that the opposite sex in such close proximity bring on. (either lustful thoughts or thoughts of being objectified).

You can’t change other people. You can only change yourself. Sartre had it all wrong though. Hell is not other people; it is the absence of God. Recall that God is Love. In this life we learn to love and thus prepare ourselves for union with Divine Love. The essence of Hell is isolation, and the essence of the Christian life is communion. Don’t trouble yourself with thinking you know the thoughts of others. You are not an object. You are a person worthy of real love. Know this about yourself, and know this about others. Don’t let yourself get caught up in pettiness. If you turn the focus away from yourself, you are more likely to not be troubled by such things.

Don’t assume it’s all money if you don’t know. Especially if you don’t have money, don’t assume they think you do. People have every capacity to be stupid but sometimes they aren’t as stupid as we think they are. Are you sure the interest is objectifying? Or do you just assume that if someone’s interested in you, she objectifies you? Don’t pay attention so much and if any of the girls who seem interested interests you in turn, just talk to her and find out why she’s interested.

This may sound funny but maybe they are just interested in you because you aren’t interested in them. Men and women alike are funny creatures and often want what they cant have. Case in point - Adam, Eve, Apple.

OK, enough word association. I don’t believe in gender segregation. If you can’t deal with them appropriately in the academic environment without getting all flustered and having to post about it - how are you going to do it in the work environment where a single mistake of that nature could destroy your career for the rest of your life.

So if you don’t want the attention quit attracting it. When you men were put in one room and told how to chase girls and we girls were put in the other room and told how to maintain modesty I think some of you should have gotten our talk too. Modesty is not just about clothing and chastity. If you have a question about that get with an adult male that you trust and talk openly and honestly with him. While priests are great, a married deacon may be better for this one as they have probably had more experience in dealings with the opposite sex.

God bless,

you are a school age boy who does not like girls looking at you.
right.

news flash
everybody who is looking in your direction is not looking at you or thinking anything at all about you.
even if they were looking at you, unless you have supernatural powers you have no idea what they are thinking until they speak to you.
