I am new to this site and am happy to see such an active message board dedicated to the Catholic community. I wasn’t exactly sure where to post, so I hope I chose the right folder!
I am struggling with the length of the annulment process and am seeking support and a few answers. I submitted my petition to the Tribunal almost one year ago and am awaiting a decision. I was told that the process would likely take 12-18 months; now that I am closing in on the 12 month mark, I am getting increasing nervous and anxious about the outcome. I continue to ask God to grant me patience and faith, but continue to struggle. For anyone who has gone through the process, I would appreciate your thoughts and (name removed by moderator)ut on my situation.
Although my annulment is still in process, I have already entered into a new relationship with a Catholic man (we are not married or engaged; just seriously committed). I understand that this relationship is a sin because I am still married in the eyes of God. I do not attend communion when I attend mass. However, I am wondering if it would be a sin to attend confession. I have not gone to confession in many, many years and have contemplated going recently. Is it true that – because I am in a new relationship without having my former marriage resolved – it is a sin to go to confession?
I would really appreciate any (name removed by moderator)ut into my situation and, of course, your prayers.
