God’s blessing to you and your wife! What a glorious day. I am so thrilled for you.![]()
Congratulations! Especially on being married right in the greatest physical presence of Our Lord and Saviour.Just an update…today March 13 my wife was confirmed and received the Holy Eucharist…right after mass our priest took us to the Adoration Chapel where in front of the Monstrance which holds our Blessed Savior we had our marriage convalidated…what a special blessing…and what a special day all round…I hope and pray that all of you who are soon to have your annulment granted…who have just started the journey or who are to be confirmed this Easter find as much joy entering or coming back to the Catholic Church…God Bless
My wifes first marriage took place over 40 years ago…as it was a small home ceremony all but one of the witnesses had passed away…because of that she had to give a statement to a special witness… both the witness and special witness statements were accepted by the tribunal.another problem my wife had was because she was baptized in a small Baptist church so long ago they had trouble finding any record…they did not issue certificates at that church only a small note about the size of a check…they eventually found it after weeks of searching…make sure that you are honest in everything you tell the tribunal…it can be very frustrating and nerve racking waiting although now I believe the process has been streamlined somewhat…my wife became depressed at times thinking her annulment would never be granted…she was confirmed into the Catholic Church last Sunday after 17 months from the start of her annulment process…she is now bursting with joy to able to take the Eucharist as a Catholic…don’t give up and keep praying…God BlessHello,
I have been reading everyone’s posts for some time now and I want to say Thank You for giving me the courage to move forward to apply for my annulment. I am almost finished with the paperwork- the witnesses are the hardest part as my marriage took place 34 years ago.
I would appreciate any advice before I submit my questionnaire and greatly need your prayers.
Thank you again to all of you who have shared your stories.
God Bless!
Debbie
My wife can’t remember now…but thinks the special witness is a psychologist who took her statement of her first marriage because she could only get one witness instead of the usual 3 required…it did cost $350…which was actually the most expensive of the whole process…I think that some tribunals will accept family members if no witnesses can be found…it’s best to ask your advocate or your priest as they will have better knowledge of your circumstances…God BlessThank you for the information!
Congratulations to your wife for staying strong during the process- the result was well worth it!!
Could you please tell me what a special witness statement is?
Thank you so much- God Bless you and your wife!!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you! After 18 months, thousands of hours of prayer, tears, anger, joy, and every other emotion one could think of; I received an affirmative decision of nullity today. Obviously, we have to wait on the appeal (which will not happen) but my husband and I are ecstatic.
Thanks to LaLucia for starting this post. Thank you to Peebo, MJ Jean, KWilson, BelleFL, Guineviere, Evelyn EVF,Huiou Theou Nic1099, Steve P, kristis524, AnchoredInHope, weaverbird , rose2 , and anyone I forgot…please forgive me. You have ALL been a source of strength and hope to me!! I could not have gotten through this without you all.
And to Dan:
You are a wonderful person. Your commitment to this process is an act of Grace, without question.
Praise God and Peace be with You ALL!!!
So true! The thinking part, I mean. When I was doing my paperwork, I took a few days and wrote out everything. I read it over, thought I was thorough enough, turned it all in, and then started to remember even more! I suggest filling out your questionnaire on your pc and letting it sit for a few days or so in case you remember more pertinent details.DebFar
God Bless You for entering into this process. Think long and hard about your situation at the time of your marriage, as it is so easy to forget things. Who you talked to at the time, your family, your friends etc., are all important in knowing where you were in life at the time. I know it was long ago, (my first marriage was 1979) I was shocked at how much my family and wedding party remember. I was also shocked at how much they helped me.
Details are everything! You are in my prayers!

I hope to not sound unhumble but I wanted to share that my lack of form came back and I was pronounced free to marry in the eyes of the Church!

Hello,…Anyway, I’m wondering about witnesses. … So, even though I am back in touch with the first two, these potential witnesses aren’t exactly close, and they didn’t have contact with us for the four years prior to the wedding. My friends that I had prior to the wedding didn’t really know him very well, and I never spoke with them very intimately about our relationship. The only witnesses I really feel would be worthwhile are my parents - perhaps my aunt, but I am about 50/50 on whether she would testify for me. I have no siblings.
Are 3 witnesses required? What are the conditions under which fewer witnesses will be allowed? Any insight would be appreciated.
Because of the time elapsed for my wifes first marriage she could only find one living witness…she was directed by the tribunal to see a special witness who questioned her about her first marriage…both were accepted by the tribunal and she was granted her annulment…good luck and God BlessHi all. I’m in the process of answering my questionnaire to start the annulment process. Not sure when I’ll be filing, as I don’t want to set my ex off at an inopportune time (he can be vindictive, and even though he’s not Catholic, I worry he will see this as a slight that requires retaliation.)
Anyway, I’m wondering about witnesses. My ex and I met in college. About 9 months after we started dating, he “hooked up” with one of my friends/old roomates. That ended the friendship and the situation eventually led to a strain in the relationship with a mutual friend. After we graduated college, he had an emotional affair with and then broke up with me for my best friend. (Yeah, I know - why did I marry him?) So, even though I am back in touch with the first two, these potential witnesses aren’t exactly close, and they didn’t have contact with us for the four years prior to the wedding. My friends that I had prior to the wedding didn’t really know him very well, and I never spoke with them very intimately about our relationship.
