Could someone explain what happens in the video briefly. I cant access it fom this computer.
There are clips from two or three different Masses. The main things I remember: A teenager gives the homily. A priest other than the presider gives a talk after the prayers that seems to be nothing more than a comedy routine. The presider changes the words that are supposed to be “This is the Lamb of God. Happy are those who are called to His Supper.” The faithful are invited to join the priest in the sanctuary during the consecration. The words to the Lamb of God are changed (new tropes). Those are the main things I remember. Sorry to say, I’ve seen them all before many, many times (except that little comedy routine).

How many years has stuff like this --been going on in that part of California.
Before he got there, Orange was a fairly conservative and wealthy diocese under Bishop Norman MacFarland, and it was a safe haven for many seminarians ordinarily destined to study for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In those days, Bishop Brown was busy Mahoneyizing the Diocese of Boise.

Don’t be quick to condemn Californians. Most of the state is fairly normal politically and religiously (San Francisco, Marin County, and West Hollywood excepted), and there are some excellent bishops including Bishop William Wiegand (Sacramento), Bishop Allen Vigneron (Oakland), and the newest one, Bishop Richard Garcia (Monterey, formerly auxiliary in Sacramento). I’m sure there are others as well.

Oh no—I was no condeming Californians as in the entire state.
That is the reason I said that part.

The Diocese of Boise, whose leadership has not improved since Tod Brown’s departure: the present bishop’s right-hand man is a nun who feels much put-upon because no one will vindicate her right to be a priest.

Incidentally, there are exactly two (2) parishes in the diocese (which comprises the whole state of Idaho) that have Tridentine Masses – and both of them are about 300 miles away from the population center of Boise.

Okay, I have now seen the video. I can testify that the constant revision of the Ecce Agnus Dei is so widespread in Bishop Brown’s former bishopric of Boise that you almost have to struggle to remember that it is improper. I have also seen the wine consecrated in pitchers (though I’ve never seen so many pitchers that full). The Lamb of God with the different verses is another one you see everywhere, including in the Cathedral until very recently. The use of laity to deliver the homily is another common abuse in this diocese.

I notice that virtually every time one of these kookburger performances at Mass is captured on video, it’s in a church that’s built like a garage. The Halloween Mass took place in something like a dining room; if it wasn’t for the crucifix, you’d never know it was supposed to be a Catholic church. Most of the stuff in this video takes place in something that looks like a warehouse. You’ll see nonsense in beautiful churches too (like our Cathedral), but as grating and shocking as it can be, it’s still not as bad as in the ugly churches. Some spirit of reverence and awe still clings, however desperately, to the inside of a church that still looks like a church. Winston Churchill once said that we shape our buildings, and then our buildings shape us – and it’s true. The liberals definitely understand this, and that’s why their much-vaunted spirit of tolerance doesn’t include statues, stained-glass windows, stations of the cross, real crucifixes with the suffering Christ on them, and – above all – easily identifiable tabernacles.

The Diocese of Boise, whose leadership has not improved since Tod Brown’s departure:
Please don’t go that far. It is better than it was. It is taking a lot of deprogramming to undo the previous damage done by Bishop Brown. Our Bishop before Tod was an absolutely amazing leader named Bishop Sylvester Treinen. We had a great and holy diocese under his sheparding. I miss him dearly.

Darn, I promised myself that I would stop reading these threads on Bishop Tod. It depresses me. I was actually at his ordination. I wish I could forget.

Frankly, I haven’t noticed any real efforts at deprogramming under the current bishop. Nor can I honestly expect any from a bishop who surrounds himself with liberal aides and gives liberals such free reign.

All I have to say is that I am very glad I am not a Catholic in California…it appears their are very grave abuses on a wide scale taking place out there.
Now now, try not to judge us all 😦 Cali is big. I’m from up north ;)Ours is Bishop Weigand. I didn’t really know anything about this Bishop. My husband seems to know about his big Cathedral though. My goodness  Interesting but the abuses pointed out which I realize are many, a few of them might have been just being absent minded? Like forgetting to do the creed? That’s the only one I can think of off hand that could be explained. I’m not making excuses just trying to give some benefit of the doubt. Either way this Bishop doesn’t sound too good.

it’s california what do you expect. i try to be thankful that at least we have priests to give a mass.

life teen masses are terrible. i’ve been to one before in TX but at least there wasn’t any liturgical abuse, just terrible music.

In some dioceses, yes, the abuse is incredible (Orange, Los Angeles, Sacramento when some of them think the bishop can’t see into Solano County). In other dioceses (Oakland) they are trying to do better.

Hey your talkin’ about my dioceses, Sacramento. Can you prove where we have abuses? I’m really curious about this. Now I haven’t gone to every parish but I’m really wondering which one? I have been to several though.

I saw my error. Not all of your diocese, just little nips when they think the bishop can’t see. Solano County. Please don’t panic. Sorry.

I didn’t mean to sound so strong actually, I was really wanting to you have you show me because I thought I was going crazy. 😉 I haven’t seen any abuses yet anyway. I wouldn’t be happy if there were. I don’t like the stuff they are showing on many of these threads. 😦

I just don’t want to release the name of the parish and have all get-out come down on me.

On a postive note, St. Catherine of Sienna in Vallejo is very nice, something for everybody; but reverent Mass despite the church’s architecture. No ad libs, no Barney, no “devil” distributing the Eucharist…

I understand, and your are right. That is against forum rules. But then how are the videos naming Priests and Parishes allowed? Because it’s link? I’m asking because I don’t want to make a mistake if I ever want to post something. I should re-read the rules.
