Another masturbation question

The few health benefits that come from masturbation are nothing compared to how much it kills our spiritual health. It’s simply not worth it. Plus, it clearly goes against God’s will so we obviously don’t need it.

Masturbation is not okay in any circumstance (as far as I know). I’m still learning about all of this myself, so I’m sure there is a more educated way to explain this… But God created sex to be procreative, self-giving, and to unite two married people. Masturbation goes against all of this. Masturbation is selfish and sinful.

I know this isn’t the best explanation, but I felt the need to steer you in the right direction. Hopefully someone can elaborate or correct any inaccurate statements.

I pray that you find the truth on this matter! Peace!
I agree with most of your comment.

But the first sentence references “health benefits that come from masturbation”…

I’m not sure there is solid science to support that common claim. Maybe there “is”, but even if that’s the case, I’m skeptical. I mean I remember seeing a study about the prostate stuff… but it seemed very weak.

One day coffee is good for a person, the next day a scientific study says it’s bad. Same goes for soy.

Words and numbers are easily framed by those with an agenda. Just something to think about.

I agree that masturbation kills one’s spiritual health. Even non-Christian religions, especially Eastern, point to this time-tested fact.

“I do not think it is worth the trouble of the fight! With fight you go nowhere.
Sex is part of life.”

Are you suggesting that he should continue masturbating?
Are you suggesting that he does it on purpose and is not trying enough to overcome it? Do you think that anybody masturbates on purpose? If you read carefully, you know what I mean, for I talked about other things and your conlcusion does not match the text. That was just a sentence.

I have learnt how to swim in strong rivers. You cannot fight a river swimming upstream. But if want to go out, you let yourself go down in a controlled manner and in a short while you will land in either margin.

Try to get out fighting upstream, you may be there your whole life.

No, no…I said in the post that I myself was getting the vibe that in order to avoid those things all together, the only place I could think of was a community on it’s own devoid of them. Amish came to mind. It may have been a little joke, but it’s also a fact–they don’t have any of those things there so that it would be easier for a man or woman who is trying not to be “tempted” to masturbate to never, ever see these books, magazines, and men and women dressed “immodestly” on the street.
Are you not familiar with the Amish? I have a community just one hour from where I live.
I have never met an Amish person, but I am familiar with their lifestyle and reputation. They seem admirable in a lot of ways.

The Amish thing was supposed to be kind of a joke lol. Its all good, Daddygirl just meant that that type of stuff is EVERYWHERE and its really hard to totally avoid it. And thing is, its not even like just glancing at something that’s meant to be provocative is going to turn me on or whatever (I’m not that horny haha), it might just be like, watching certain movies or something. I dunno, its hard to explain, but I won’t have to go into isolation 😛

Well, six years ago my fiance and I went into marriage “knowing nothng.” We hadn’t even kissed! Not only did we have a wonderful honeymoon, we’ve had six AWESOME years of marriage.

Now we did read a Christian book about sex several days before our wedding night. And we’ve had really good communication, too. But I would strongly disagree that masturbation could help one’s sex life in marriage. I would say it hinders things because it goes opposite to what God designed sex to be.
I doubt you went into marriage “knowing nothing.” You did say your read a book. Many have and that is a disaster in the making. I am glad it worked out well for you. I suspect your wife had a great mother teaching her on the side as well. I am sure she was better than the nun who told us girls sex was like a bee going to a flower to deposit pollen into it. A good biology lesson but not one for marriage. LOL

I don’t think getting into an addictive habit of any kind is good but some things have a place if you use them wisely. If one is away from their spouse for long periods of time. How many cold showers can a man take? I agree on reading the bible or some other religious book (my husband always takes them when he travels) is helpful.

If masturbation is not healthy and normal then why does our bodies do it while asleep?

Masturbation and lustful thoughts are sinful while awake…

But a perverted wet dream is not sinful at all…

If we go awhile without an orgasm while young, our bodies will have a noctural emission…

It does seem natural for semen to leave the body…if we don’t do it, it does it for us…

am i wrong?

I don’t think that’s true for everyone. I can understand why you feel that way.

I’m pretty sure some people never have wet dreams, especially after refraining from masturbation (or allowing lustful thoughts) for long periods of time.

And I’m not sure “wet dreams” aren’t sinful. It might feel like we have no control over our minds in those moments, but some people are able to control their dreams.

Many Americans live in a culture that promotes and celebrates sin. And one of the effects is wet dreams.

But I write this knowing that I don’t have all the answers. I just thought I’d share my thoughts.

I would love to say the temptation goes away. But even after years, I can not say that honestly. Easiest to avoid the near temptation. But temptations can sometimes lurk in unsuspecting places.

Dear Original Poster:

Masturbation is one of the worst HABITS a person can get into,
because it is one of the HARDEST habits to get RID of, even WITH much prayer!!!
SO don’t feel TOO bad about it. Do keep praying. Ask St. Faustina Kowalska to obtain
you the grace to give it up.

I wasn’t raised Catholic.
I was taught that masturbation was not a good thing, but not really all that serious, either.
SO, from the age of twelve, I had a daily habit of it. I felt that it relieved tension.
In actuality, it makes you a slave to physical passion,
and it makes you much more likely to sin sexually with another person, too,
and repeatedly, so it’s really a bad and destructive habit.
Even after becoming Catholic, it took years to kick the habit.
God, and ONLY GOD, could have helped me stop,
and I stopped it several years ago.
So keep praying and praying and confessing and confessing.
Peace and blessings to you!!!
God bless,
Jaypeeto4

when you get the urge pray.either you stop praying and surrender to the urge or if you continue praying you might be able to over come it.sometimes we are are too weak and we will fall again and again.in my case i said to Jesus 26 years ago and it was before lent, i know i can not control my self but i am going to try, this is more important than fasting on sweets.the first day of lent 26 years ago my lord set me free from this sin.by admitting that i can not do it on my own and i was sincere then god intervened in my life and set me free.

Hey guys, I know there are a fair amount of people asking questions about this topic, but I have yet to see anyone ask this yet.

For people who have struggled or continue to struggle with this problem: how many times have you given in to temptation? Does it get easier to resist temptation as you try to refrain?

I’m asking this cause lately its been REALLY hard to resist the urges. Like, I went two months without doing anything, and then I gave in and I dunno. I guess at this point I just feel kind of down and a little frustrated cause I feel like no matter what I do or how long I go without doing anything I always end up falling. So that’s why I wanted to see if anybody else has taken a long time to get over it or if I’m just a weird person haha.
I’ve struggled with this aswell… I’ve found that the longer I refrain from it, the easier it becomes to do so.
Every once in a while I’ll give in… And I always feel so disappointed with myself afterwards 😦
If you feel the temptation coming on, just pray, and try to ignore it by doing something else… Text a friend, play videogames, focus on lyrics in a song, or basically anything that requires some concentration.

God bless!
🙂
