Another Missal question (Sorry)

I didn’t mean that. I thought the Mass readings were exactly what’s in the Bible and arranged exactly as the Bible verses. Protestants often proof-text to prove a point, and it was a knee-jerk reaction to years of dealing with that. It hit a nerve.
May have been an odd reaction, but it was an honest one. I’m sorry if I offended you.
 
I mean it is a nice addition particularly for those who didn’t know the meaning of Emmanuel.

At Mass this addition helped bring the reading into context - Ahaz not wanting to test the patience of God, the turn from “The Lord your God” to “The Lord my God” and the realization that God is with us always, in everything we do. Therefore Angel Gabriel giving Mary the message that she will be with child and is to name him Emmanuel meaning God is with us.

In Britain, the lectionary uses the Jerusalem Bible, the 1966 translation based on the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem. The NJB has that same translation with different notes. The RNJB has a new translation that goes with the notes from the NJB.

The lectionary in Canada is based on the NRSV (unless that got changed somewhere along the way). The Canadian bishops’ website says a new weekday lectionary is awaiting approval (2017).

The bishops in the USA produced their own translation, the New American Bible which is the basis for their lectionary. The Revised NAB has not been approved for liturgical use, though another revision is in the works that will be used liturgically.

All of these translations are adapted for use in the lectionary.

Ah! Why aren’t there enough ribbons in the Missal?? I think I’m going to have to see if the Parish is selling any bookmarks tomorrow so I can bookmark the readings for Sunday and weekday and then leave the ribbons for the order of Mass.

At the moment two ribbons are being used for the readings which doesn’t leave me enough to bookmark the preface and Eucharistic prayer. 😦
 
Over here one can purchase a set of ribbons on Amazon (search for book ribbons or scripture ribbons), or you can simply buy ribbon then attach it with glue inside the binding as the other ribbons are attached.

Holy Cards make excellent bookmarks!
