No one in this thread (unless I have missed it somewhere) has suggested informing the Bishop, although that is a right of all Catholics.

I have no clue what a “worship director” is. Do you by chance mean a Master of Ceremonies (MC)?
I’ve attended exactly 2 Masses in my lifetime that had an MC. One was a priest’s funeral, the other was an Ordination. I think probably he meant what some people call a Liturgy Committee coordinator. The person, other than the priest, responsible for making sure the priest has everything he needs and the sanctuary is properly appointed. The person who sometimes has to argue with the Pastor because he wants to do things that aren’t supposed to be done: i.e. take away the holy water for Lent, not use a white cloth to cover the coloured one, do away with the processional cross for Lent, etc. Our sacristan does the physical things, the liturgy coordinator makes sure the sacristan has what she needs to do her job properly.

Purple is always the color during Lent except for Laetare Sunday (4th Sunday in Lent) which is pink.
And the feast of The Chair of St. Peter*, The Feast of St. Joseph* and Palm Sunday.

*1962 Calendar only

If it was up to me I’d get rid of all the music in mass.
Music is one of our great traditions that extends back to our Jewish roots and beyond. Grumbling about it probably goes back as far.

Yes - unfortunately people seem to disregard much of Sacrosanctum Concilium with regards to this.

I feel that the following is particularly ignored :
Sacrosanctum Conculium:
The Church acknowledges Gregorian chant as specially suited to the Roman liturgy: therefore, other things being equal, it should be given pride of place in liturgical services.

It it true that days of penance in Lent are all the days of the week EXCEPT Sunday? I have heard it said that Sundays aren’t officially penitential in the season of Lent because every Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus?

The readings from the bible can be penitential–the colors are purple except for Latarae Sunday–but Sunday itself is not a day of penance. Is this correct?

And doesn’t the fact of Latarae Sunday being rose PROVE that not all days in the season of Lent are penitential?

Are Sundays in Lent penitential or not?

I am sure there are others that feel the way you do. You give one teaching of the Church on music. There are of course others and then many factors involved, which is why music is such a source of debate.

Um, nooo. The Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, and the solemnity of St. Joseph are definitely in the current calendar, and the liturgical colour for both is white.

And don’t forget the solemnity of the Annunciation, March 25th, also white. However this year it would fall during Holy Week and so has been moved to April 8th.

Phemie also answered this but what I meant and at least what she is called at our parish is the director or liturgy or worship director or coordinator. She is in charge of scheduling all of the ministers at Mass as well as a number of other functions related to worship and the Mass.

I feel we should obey the teachings of the Church. Nothing more, nothing less.

Mea culpa - I have just read what I posted. What I meant was that those were other solemnities during Lent when purple was not the correct liturgical colour. I didn’t mean rose was the correct colour. I realise it didn’t read that way. 😦

I was referring to lent this year. I thought only the feast of the The Chair of St. Peter at Rome was celebrated in the new calendar? I’m not as familiar with the OF as the EF 😦

Then let us obey them all, including where it is the bishop who controls the liturgy in his diocese and grants priests authority in matters of music. Let us also accept approved groups like LifeTeen to follow their instructions.

I have no problem with bishops controlling the liturgy - as long as they follow the rules that are set.

And how is that done? People who do have not training in liturgical issues but think they are now experts because they read GIRM? Do you think bishops go around trying to violate rules and ignoring liturgical abuse?

Master of Ceremonies are used when the Bishop is involved with major ceremonial Masses.
My one son’s confirmation Mass had the Archbishop of the diocese and we had a Master of Ceremonies involved with the Mass. They are also used in ordination and instillation Masses.
I was speaking more about going with a concern with a Mass to a worship coordinator or director (whatever term your parish uses) or priest.

If you are to truly follow Church teaching, this will nver be your call to make. The very concept of “I have no problem with…” misunderstands that it is not up to us to have the problem or not.

This is why we must educate our selves. CAF can be one of those tools.
CAF is more of a discussion group in reality. I am not sure if everything posted is accurate. If I truly want to educate myself, I read and study from experts or those who have truly studied the particular issue which in this case in the Liturgy. Just because someone can quote GIRM, Cannon law or any other Church document doesn’t make them an expert on anything at all. I can quote the Bible, that doesn’t make me a Bible expert either. Most of the Catholics on CAF are not experts in liturgy, Bible, Cannon law etc. We need to keep this in mind and that is why in many of these threads especially concerning liturgy and what happen or didn’t happen at a particular Mass is that: 1. none of us basically were there. 2. we can’t accurately judge something based on one person’s description and 3. the various opinions expressed either way are just that opinions.
