Which ones? Ask me the questions one at a time, in your own words, and I will answer them for you.
So you’re going to speak for the LDS Church then?
The answers you provide to questions pertaining to John, The Three Nephites and so on is representative of the LDS Church as a whole?

Well the questions have been asked, start answering.

Fair enough.
  1. How can Mormons believe that Christ took the Priesthood from the Earth if they believe St. John and the Three Nephites never died and is still walking the Earth? Do they believe that?
Yes, Mormons believe that John the Apostle never died. He was granted his wish to live until the Second Coming of the Lord. The three Nephite disciples mentioned in the Book of Mormon also obtained the same promises, and did not die. The priesthood was not “taken from the earth,” in that sense of the term. The priesthood was taken from the Church, because of the Apostasy.
  1. If John was here then the Priesthood was here and there was no apostasy. If John did not have the Priesthood, then how could he have conferred it on Joseph Smith?
John had the priesthood, but at some point in the early history of the Church his ministry in the Church came to an end. Although he continued to live, he was no longer operating as a minister to the Church. The same thing holds true of the “three Nephte disciples”. The Book of Mormon documents the history of how their ministry among the Nephites was terminated because of the Apostasy among them:

Mormon 1:

16 And I did endeavor to preach unto this people, but my mouth was shut, and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; for behold they had wilfully rebelled against their God; and the beloved disciples were taken away out of the land, because of their iniquity.

By the “beloved disciples” is meant those three Nephites who were permitted to “tarry”. Their ministry among the Nephites was terminated because of the Apostasy. John’s ministry in the Christian Church was terminated for the same reasons. So the answer to your question is that although John and the “three Nephites” lived on earth and had the priesthood, the Christian Church did not.

Is it true that Joseph Smith was the only person to receive these revelations originally? Whre there other witnesses at the time, or are you trusting Smith here?

I am not here acting as an official representative of the Church, but I try to give answers that I believe are consistent with the official teaching position of the Church.

Joseph Smith received many revelations that are recorded in the Book of Mormon and in the Doctrine and Covenants, and there were other witness to some of these revelations, but not to all of them. The Book of Mormon for example comes with the testimonies of three, and later eight witness who saw the plates from which it was translated, and recorded their testimonies in the book. Some of the revelations published in the D&C also were attested by other witnesses. But ultimately, it is the testimony of the Holy Ghost to each of us individually that convinces us that they are true.

So you indeed admit that, ultimately, there is no good proof of even a great likelihood for what the Mormons teach? You believe because of the Holy Spirit almost solely?

I don’t believe there is what you call a “good proof” of the truth of any religion. All religious belief is ultimately a matter of faith. There are lots of people who don’t believe in Christianity for the same kinds of reasons that you are bringing. Paul says that faith comes by “hearing the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Ultimately you don’t have “proof” of that kind for any religion. You either believe it or you don’t. That is as true of Christianity in general, as it is of Mormonism in particular.

These are just your words, with no evidence to support it. Why should I believe it? You are obviously against Mormonism, so you could be making it all up. How would anyone know? I don’t believe a word of it that any Mormon would want to kidnap anybody’s kids to “save their souls”. That is pure fabrication.
You have shown no real proclivity to accept the truth up till now, so why would I expect you to accept it now? It is not a fabrication, but you are certainly free to believe what justifies your beliefs.

I agree with that to a certain extent, but anyway I’m talking more of a general consensus on beliefs. But thank you for answering my questions.

Sir Thomas, you are not answering questions, but dodging. Why? You would not allow anything but a final decision. Is the Holy Spirit lying? If not who is? Please just answer and then let’s talk about how you dealt with my answer on this forum. This will be instructive for all of us. Do not deflect, do not twist, just answer the question.
I did not dodge. I answered your question. I said:

The answer is, I do not know. God knows. I asked myself that question many times. Why did the Spirit lead me into the LDS in the first place? Why did it lead me, at the age of 24 and a college grad, to leave my fiance and job and go on a mission? I do not know. Perhaps because it was the best route to get me to the Catholic Church. I know I became a little intrigued with it in Honduras because there were so many Catholic Churches there. I would marvel at how reverant people were in Catholic Churhes. Maybe God knew that finding an avenue to bring me closer to Him would be the way to lead me to the Catholic Church, a Church I never liked. Why has the Spirit told you things? I do not know. Maybe you are misguided. maybe you are following your heart instead of God’s call. Maybe the path to truth lies THRU the LDS Church like it did for me.

These are things above my pay grade. But, I do not believe you are lying. I believe you firmly believe in what you claim

Receiving testimonies and bearing testimonies is not part of the Catholic tradition. The Catholic Church does not tell people to read the Bible or the Catechism, pray about it, and accept it if the Holy Ghost tells you it is true. That is in the Mormon tradition, not the Catholic one.
lol…we all pray for guidance., Catholics were doing that hundreds of years before Joe started scamming people while digging for treasure. I specifically prayed for the things I mentioned. Godd answered me

Those are your problems, not the LDS Church’s problems. The Church has perfectly valid answers to all of thos questions.
No…the Church has stutterings that people are fooled by. And they are not my problems anymore. I was guided out the LDS darkness.

You are a Mormon apostate, and you have a vested interest in speaking against Mormonism, therefore from my point of view you are not a reliable witness.

lol…The Apostasy claims it was when the Priesthood was taken from the earth. Then, when we bring up John, there is a sudden caveat “in the sense of the term”. lol…Reminds me again of “it depends on what your definition of the word is is.”

lol…they were left here to minister…until it was clear it interfered with the whole Apostasy thing, then they just wandered around aimlessly until 1800s.

Zerinius,

You can’t say that sirthomasmore’s witness is not valid because he/she is a mormon apostate with a bias. The same could be said about you in the reverse with you having a bias. I guess we are all biased and the conversation is at a stand still. How sad.

I am a Mormon in good standing, unlike you, and I think that I understand Mormonism better than you do. Your sneering comments does not interest me, nor warrants my reply.

I was a mormon in good standing until I chose to not to be. I doubt you understand Mormonism better than I do, because i do not have blinders on. And for a comment that did not interest you, you sure responded quickly, and for a comment that did not warrant a reply, you sure replied quickly.

Zer, it is a shame that you have returned to the board with guns blazing and slinging insults and calling names. It reflects poorly on your faith and makes us Ex- LDS realize we were right in leaving.

I will pray that your hatred is taken away
