Ok, this one is more about how men feel about doing something nice for women.

Here are some examples and I am wondering if you see the woman’s point or just feel hurt

1-)You buy her something as a surprise and she doesn’t like it

2-) You buy her jelewery and she never wears it and when you ask why she says ‘I don’t like how it looks on me’

3-) You find out about some cheap tickets to go somewhere and get them and are all excited and she says ‘Tonight !!! it is last minute I don’t want to go’,

4-)If you love wood working and hand make a rocking chair to surprise her and she says ‘there is no room for this in the house’,

5-) You just finished doing the dishes and she says ‘You use the sponge I cleaned the toilet with, pleas ask which sponge to use before doint the dishes’

How do you feel and how should a woman polite let you know and what she doesn’t like

Honestly, these are the trials and tribulations of marriage. The longer you are married the better you get at dealing with these issues. Everyone is unique.
  1. The wife should pretend to like it initially, within reason.
  2. The guy should never have asked why you don’t wear it. I’ve bought jewelry for my wife that she never wears. I never ask her about it because clearly she doesn’t like it and I don’t want to make her feel awkward. I now know what kind of jewelry she doesn’t want.
  3. You better be sure your wife will be free before buying those tickets. If they were real cheap I guess its worth a shot, but I wouldn’t be upset if we didn’t end up going.
  4. The husband probably should have planned it out better. Not a good initial response to a gift. You should say thank you. Then try to find a corner to stick the chair in.
  5. I don’t consider doing the dishes as I’ve done something nice, its something that needs to be done. Believe me, I have for years been trying to figure out which sponges to use. Its too complicated.

Well, I still think a woman should say thank you. Perhaps you could ask your wife to colour conde the sponges 😉

cms,
It’s normal to feel hurt when you put your heart and soul into a gift and it’s not appreciated.

However, if it is happening repeatedly, then there is a failure to communicate. While it may eliminate some of the surprise, a guy should know what gifts she wants before spending big bucks or major time. Save surprises for the little things. Also, she may just not like surprises (some people are that way)

Shame on your wife for leaving a toilet sponge in the kitchen. Turn the tables on her and insist she follow common sense and mark with a magic marker, or something (if it must be in the kitchen instead of under the bathroom vanity). Don’t accept responsibility for things that are not your fault.

Again, find out what she wants, which may be very different from what you feel is a good gift. You may also need to speak to her friends and family to get a handle on this one.

My only reply to this–as a woman–is that any sponge used to clean a toilet is in a bathroom, and any sponge on the kitchen counter is safe to use on dishes. I can’t even imagine anyone faced with a kitchen sink full of dishes would go to a bathroom to get a sponge. 🙂

I really don’t worry about the sponges anymore. I’ll use whatever sponge she wants me to use, I don’t care enough to argue over it.

Dude buy her a proper toilet brush.

  1. Get over it. That’s what happens with surprises.
  2. For something that she wears, you need to have her go with you when you buy jewelry or dresses.
  3. Asanine. Never put pressure on people to do things without their permission.
  4. See #1.
  5. Just say, “Yes, honey.” If you’re ticked about this for some reason, go watch The Road Warrior.
A woman should just be direct. Add in some “i love you”'s and a laugh or two.

If you haven’t yet seen the movie “Fireproof”, please do so, with your wife.
Take a hanky.

Have you ever read the 5 Love languages?

Sometimes our actions just make no sense to our wife because we’re not speaking her language of love and vice versa sometimes she won’t speak yours either

Those are very perplexing questions… I shall endevour to answer them, satisfactorly… 1) The first thing you need to do is think… What did I do, to have her not use it… There is always more, than just a I don’t like it… You have to find out what her mind is thinking… Afterward, when you do, and sees that you understood her thoughts… she will love it!
2) You will need to compliment her on her OWN beauty… Her heart, mind and soul… How kind she is. How smart and humble… Afterward she will wear it!
3) You have to find out what she wants to do… When you do make concrete plans to do something, down the road, she will go!
4) You did something for yourself… You will have to do something for her… You see, it is not the fact there is no room, again, she simply wants you to say " I was hoping for some advice. I made a nice rocking chair, for the family room… I would like you to help me with some decorations… Will you help me? She will then, gladly put the rocking chair in the family room!
5) Ouch… She must be truly mad at you! WOW! You must have done something COMPLETELY Horrible… After all, if that REALLY was the sponge to clean the toilet out, you would have smelt that a mile away… WOW! Find out what her REAL situation is!

HE HE HE! WOW! If this ACTUALLY happened… call for therapy! 😃

5-) You just finished doing the dishes and she says ‘You use the sponge I cleaned the toilet with, pleas ask which sponge to use before doint the dishes’.
If you have a dishwasher the water gets hot enough to sanitize. It wouldn’t matter what sponge you used. Heck, throw the sponge in the dishwasher if you want to clean it. You could have your dog lick all the plates & it would still get sanitized in the dishwasher.

To answer your question on what should a woman say, politely… it would be, “I know you are doing things you feel are wonderful, but to be honest, I hate surprises. It puts me on the spot and makes me feel stressed and has kind of the opposite effect than what I am sure you would like.”

I answer this way because the common theme I see in all of your examples is that you did things or gave gifts as “surprises,” and I am one of those types of people who doesn’t like surprises. I can’t explain why, but things like a surprise night out stress me (I haven’t had time to plan, I don’t have clothes ready, or I really planned on doing something else). Surprise gifts often get put away and forgotten (I always thank the person at the time). For example, I’ve been given jewelry as a surprise gift and sometimes it doesn’t fit or is uncomfortable (I hate having anything around my neck, so a heavy necklace would probably get put in a jewelry box and never worn again. I once got pierced earrings as a gift and I don’t even have pierced ears). Surprises also control the other person–the other person never gets a chance to say “no” and if they say no after the surprise, well, then they look bad.

Anyway, the clear thing lacking here is communication. The couple should get together and talk about this… find out more of their likes and dislikes. Find out if not liking surprises is the reason why, etc.

I wish you the best!

I understand what you are saying about surprises - they can be intrusive in some ways, and people who like to know what’s coming don’t always appreciate being surprised, especially for big things like a party in one’s honor. I do enjoy some surprises, within reason. No surprise parties, and no putting my name into “What Not to Wear” so I get ambushed and embarrassed on national TV! 😊 (Then again, a $5,000 wardrobe MIGHT make that a little more bearable…)

But OTOH, being surprised with a gift from someone who loves you means that the person was thinking of you with love when they picked it out, whether or not they did the perfect job of understanding your likes/dislikes. Ever hear the cliche’ “It’s the thought that counts?” It kind of is. If you are ungrateful every time someone gives you a gift, pretty soon you just won’t be getting any gifts at all. 🙂

I got a question for you guys out there,
I have wondered for years!

Why do you grab the nicest dish towel in the house to use on greasy dirty hands thereby staining it forever?
You dont see that its nice and white, not meant for that?

Oh, I think it’s important to always be grateful and appreciative when gifts are received. It is the thought that counts. Which is why it’s disheartening (in my case) when your husband (whom you’ve told time and time again that you really aren’t into jewelry) continues to buy you jewelry a gift and then gets upset/offended that you don’t wear it. At least not having pieced ears was a good excuse not to wear pieced earrings (that was a gift from a friend to be clear). It’s a more high end version of the bunny pajama gift from the movie, A Christmas Story :D.

Ok, this one is more about how men feel about doing something nice for women.
Yeah, my favourite kind. 😛

Okay, I’ll try to answer. Since I presume you’re interested in answers and you’d like the answers to be informative, I’ll take the liberty to speak in more direct, honest terms than usual. So please take this into account. I’m trying to be understandable, not cold or unkind. Also if you’ll forgive the lengths. I’m dead-tired and there’s a lot of work yet ahead of me, so I’d appreciate not having to write short summaries (which takes much more time than writing at more length). This especially refers to #3.
Here are some examples and I am wondering if you see the woman’s point or just feel hurt
1-)You buy her something as a surprise and she doesn’t like it
I’m not superhuman, so I guess I feel a little sad about the situation but it’s only natural that she likes some things but not others, can’t (and don’t want to) blame her for that. On the other hand, good manners are important and I might feel bad about her way of handling the situation and basically her treatment of me in the process. I don’t need eggshells treatment but I’d expect her not to be positively inconsiderate. Or in flagrant disregard of standard accepted good manners.
2-) You buy her jelewery and she never wears it and when you ask why she says ‘I don’t like how it looks on me’
That’s okay, although I am not the kind of man to walk on eggshells and bow down in half to a woman’s emotions, if you allow me to speak freely. If I believed it looked good on her, I would try to convince (and reassure) her that it looked good on her—naturally without imposing myself, since that’d be a subjective and perhaps sensitive matter but without overdoing the ‘sensitive’ part, i.e. not treating her like a live wire, which as an adult I can and do expect her not to be. If she threw a tantrum about my not agreeing with her opinion, that would be bad in my book.

(Obviously, I’m presuming we’re not talking about a situation in which the woman is an emotionally sensitive condition that would need a forgiving and intelligent approach. Everybody has such days and an intelligent person should be able to spot them and modify approach accordingly.)
3-) You find out about some cheap tickets to go somewhere and get them and are all excited and she says ‘Tonight !!! it is last minute I don’t want to go’,
First of all I could understand that someone didn’t want to go somewhere I wanted to go. I’m not the kind of man who needs the woman to go with him just because he feels like going with her, even though she doesn’t feel like going. I’d probably go alone and since I took the risk while buying the tickets without asking her first, I wouldn’t be in my right if I tried to complain about wasting them. Besides, I certainly wouldn’t like somebody else to hold me hostage to a ticket that would be wasted if I didn’t go somewhere. Gotta find a bit more magnanimity than than in oneself anyway. The world would be a nicer place if we all learnt to ignore such minutiae.

On the other hand, again if you allow me to speak freely, I am not a particularly big fan of women not being in the mood for this or that, as in won’t meet up with me today because the weather isn’t ideal (while it isn’t particularly bad either) or yeah, because something hadn’t been previously planned (well, at least let’s not completely rule out spontaneity) etc. However, I’m not a particularly big fan of unexpected changes or things that pop up out of the blue and need addressing.

All in all, I guess that from my perspective there should be some rational reason here, especially if she likes the proposed outing or not. If she had been planning to rest or do something else, that’s okay. If she doesn’t particularly like it but would go with me if she had been given some advance notice, then that’s okay too. But I would feel bad if she made a problem solely of the fact that something hadn’t been planned. Again, this wouldn’t really be a problem if it happened rarely.

From this man’s perspective, the real problem in this particular range of issues, is when you just can’t go out with the particular woman because either the weather isn’t ideal enough or it wasn’t hard-planned well in advance, or she’s suffering from a very minor headache or from a blah mood, basically you’re hitting a wall of reluctance. If this happens at an early dating stage, I reconsider the relationship and am likely to cut it. Nothing endears a more to me more than when she meets me despite a slight headache, has one more dance with me despite being tired, walks a couple hundred yards more despite her feet getting a little sore. I can’t explain this fully (men are emotional creatures too) but this is a very important thing to me, subjectively. I also tie it to the lady/gentleman kindness standard, which I take a bit further than the society generally does nowadays.
4-)If you love wood working and hand make a rocking chair to surprise her and she says ‘there is no room for this in the house’,
Okay, that’s inconsiderate. I don’t like it. Honestly. Such inconsiderate comments can be hurtful to others (I’d feel bad if somewhere else were on the receiving end of that comment too, not just I). On the other hand, everybody can make a blunder. I will most certainly have mode some too, including a couple of memorable ones. …So, ‘as we forgive those who trespass against us.’ 😉
5-) You just finished doing the dishes and she says ‘You use the sponge I cleaned the toilet with, pleas ask which sponge to use before doint the dishes’
Okay, with your exact provided set of facts, my answer would be: ‘what was the toilet cleaning sponge doing on the kitchen sink then, darling?’ Logic fail on this one, CMS, sorry. 😃

How do you feel and how should a woman polite let you know and what she doesn’t like
Considerate, respectful, brief. Considerate because I expect people to be (especially those who do or should aspire to the category of ladies or gentlemen, and I don’t care if it’s relevant in 21st century), respectful because I believe they should be, brief because being brief generally helps avoid drama (there’s less intensity that loads up and fewer opportunities to misspeak something).

I also appreciate if she doesn’t at all tell me that she dislikes something which is insignificant or non-repetitive or especially both, i.e. a small problem, minor nuisance, that has little chance of occurring again in the closest decade or two, in which case I appreciate if people just don’t bring it up. Reciprocally, there’s a whole lot of issues of the same kind that I don’t bring up. So I really appreciate it when people return the kindness.

Speaking of which, I’d really appreciate if the lady in question tried to be as kind to me as I were to her (especially if I knew she could if she wanted to).

On a final note, some time ago, I made, as a man, as a resolution to nag less and shut up more (‘shut up’ refers strictly to me, it isn’t the way I’d talk about a woman, just to be 100% sure). I’ve really been a happier person ever since. Even the ability to wave issues away and just be happy anyway is a great source of, well, more happiness. I strongly recommend this to anybody who’s hesitating.

Edit: Actually, one more thing. If several of those situations appeared together, I’d suspect a more general problem. Some kind of dissatisfaction with the relationship, with me as a person, with that lady’s own life perhaps. Those are basically the causes which make people bring up more problems, exaggerate them, pile them up etc. That could eat me up inside and I’d expect to be told what the real problem were. I could find it difficult to believe that there were no underlying problem of a larger magnitude and I’d probably disbelieve that if told so. However, this does not refer to a single bad day (like when no matter what you do it’s wrong), which everybody has once in a while (I certainly do, so it would be reciprocal).
