His followers maintain he died when the jail was stormed however; so martyrdom is the official story.
And, he died as a result of shoot out, not martyrdom…
Lucky for all of us mere mortals John 17:22 addresses how the Father and the Son are one. The oneness is in purpose and unity, not numerically.I know that scripture is very clear in Isaiah 43-44 there is only ONE GOD. To me the gods referred to in the bible are probably demons.
I don’t think they are all that worked up about not conforming to the ideas of classical philosophy. This means that they cannot be “God” as classically defined in philosophy
Wait, what? You can’t be a martyr if you are defending yourself from those who seek your life?
Absolutely #'s 1 and 2. Not really in question by anyone who has read through his life and the accounts at and before Carthage.Which of these martyr definitions do you feel would apply to Smith?
a person who willingly suffers death rather than renounce his or her religion.
a person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief, principle, or cause:
a person who undergoes severe or constant suffering:
I don’t understand the question. You provided the definitions, and the situation you present has you in none of those lights. You neither die, nor seem to undergo severe or constant suffering.Let’s suppose I’m an Episcopalian and we were in the room with a mob outside and just before they barged in I jumped out the back window leaving you behind. Would you consider me to be a martyr.
Well said. Actually apotheosis of the individual is the final goal of all authentic religion, Catholicism being no exception. It is strange indeed that many Catholics resist this interpretation, which is the obvious and logical one.Well, clearly it does mean that we become partake of the divine nature (because it says that), but it also means we become gods. How could it mean anything different when it says that Christ became man to “make men gods.” That you have been taught that it cannot mean what it says, is a product of the development of Catholic thought away from both the Bible and the thought of the ECFs.
Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach [to you] a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed!Galatians 1:8 would be a good starting point.

I find it MOST likely you misremembered or perhaps misheard. The Book of Mormon is subtitled, “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.” No member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would say it is “Another Gospel.”I’ve heard the Book of Mormon called another gospel, though. In fact, the pair of missionaries in my second paragraph even described it that way. I would like to clarify, though, that I do not consider LDS folks “accursed”. Pax Vobiscum.![]()
I have answered either 3 of these 4 or 4 of these 4 in about 8-10 pages of word documents.Youngconvert:![]()

Some of the arguments presented in these tracts are just absurd. The tract Problems with the Book of Mormon | Catholic Answers | Catholic Answers actually claims that the Book of Mormon is incorrect because it mentions bees in Ether 2:3 and “everybody knows” bees were introduced in the New World by the Spanish Conquistadors.Youngconvert:![]()
