An anti blasphemous demonstration is to take place in Paris today. This follows a play that French Catholics interrupted, due to its anti Christian nature. They climbed on to the stage with a big ‘stop Christianophobia’ banner.

I wish them good luck in their demonstration tonight and urge people on here to sign a petition here.

It is in French but it is basically a petition against anti-Christian society, works and productions in France, including this play that was very anti-Christian. Don’t worry you won’t be signing your life away.

Such attacks must be expected upon Our Lord God.

It is good to hear of the courage of the protestors, may God bless their efforts.

Peace
James

now that you say that im worryed lol jkjk i can translate the page 😃

I’m in Paris right now, so I’m surprised I didn’t hear about this! As a young adult, I’m always inspired by other youth who are brave enough to stand up for the Faith. 😃

From Google translate, for the beginning of the video:

“the play “on the concept of God’s face” aviation already generated the excitement of many Christians. Indeed, the piece is degrading and offensive ended with a throw of excrement and stones on the face of Christ.Considered by some artists and journalists as degenerate art, it was for us an intolerable insult that was necessary to interrupt!”

[In the comments section, one person writes: “‘On the Concept of the Face of the Son of God’ is a scatological representation of an old man wracked with diarrhea whose son wipes and cleans him repeatedly on stage under a large reproduction of a Face of Christ by Antonello da Messina. Brown feces fill the stage - synthetic odor included -, the two actors leave the stage, then a dozen children carrying schoolbags make their appearance and throw plastic grenades at the image of Christ. The image later appears to crack up and a dark liquid similar to the feces seen earlier invades the face which is then covered with the words, “You are not my shepherd”.”]]

I believe at 4:05, the audience starts to chant “Pope!,” But I don’t speak French, it is a guess. Any thoughts as to what the audience is shouting at any point, especially around 7:10?

At the end, it says “We call upon all defenders of Christendom to rally wherever possible to avoid having to accept the unacceptable.”

News Update:
The city of Paris is filing legal complaints against a group of fundamentalist Christians who have been protesting a play currently showing at the municipal theater, claiming it is blasphemous, the mayor said Friday.
Riot police have been called in to chase off demonstrators bearing crosses loudly protesting in front of, and sometimes inside, the Theatre de la Ville since the Oct. 20 opening of the play.
Each night, police have had to defend the theater from a group of ultra-Christian protesters — organized by the group Renouveau France — who turn up with crucifixes and banners denouncing “Christianophobia,” determined to disrupt the show .
Mayor Bertrand Delanoe said in a statement that Paris can’t tolerate “such expressions of fundamentalism and intolerance.”

The legal complaints would only be filed against persons who disrupt the play. But does anyone know what is the consequence of such a legal complaint? Does it carry a fine? Risk of jail? Is there a trial?

@Dale

I am not too clued up on the legal side so can’t answer the question.

@PowderBear

I’m not too sure what they are chanting, I too don’t speak the French language. What I am wondering is whether the clapping is for the people who got on the stage to stop the play or whether it is for the security trying to throw them out. I think the booing is aimed at the young Catholics.

By the way I noticed that there is a similar topic started on this issue that is called ‘French police brutality against Catholic demonstrators’ so this can be merged with that if the mods want.

I urge people to sign the petition. It is not just about an this one incident, it is about generally taking a stand and saying we have had enough of our beliefs and way of life getting mocked, over and over. It might not be much but it is something.

I signed the petition so I can support our French brothers and sisters in their fight against discrimination towards Christianity in France.

God bless

It’s odd that the mayor calls the protesters intolerant…yet the play is considered perfecly alright. Satan turns reality upside down yet again.

Well, it could be said that if the play disagrees with you, do not attend. Similarly with religious services you disagree with or political rallies you find offensive.

To disrupt an event, whether a play or a Mass or a political event, is a display of intolerance. And such actions should not be tolerated.

A non-violent and non-destructive disruption is perfectly acceptable. Gay, feminist, PETA, etc groups do the same, some even become violent. If it’s ok for some, it’s ok for all.

Play does not throw excrement at LGBT figures, feminist figures or pictures of Sarkozy.

So this past spring, when feminist and gay students stormed into a Catholic chapel, interrupting Mass at a Madrid university, that was acceptable to you?

Well a mass in a Church tends not to make fun of others while this play was offending people’s beliefs. I know you can not go see it and I would not but still, why is there such a need to make fun of the beliefs of others? I mean does it make someone feel better if they know they have mocked Christianity?

Beautful resistance. Its hearteneing that the few will make a stand against such muck
I would have loved to have been there!

I happen to mostly agree with you.

While I support totally the right of these people to (rightfully) protest these blasphemies, disrupting the play is just as bad as gthose folks that disrupted the Cathedral services. Two wrongs do not make a right, despite what one poster said above. :(😊

OTOH, I wish the protestors great luck with these non-violent street demonstrations demonstrations. 👍

If I may point some issues with this.

Firstly, the reason they are storming the play is because it is inherently and deeply offensive to them. Is mass inherently offensive to feminests and gay people? I think not. In fact I would love to see arguments that it was, purely because they’d be utterly absurd.

Secondly, the french newspaper which decided to make the ‘prophet’ muhameed its editor as a joke was destroyed by a petrol bomb, perhaps thats why its a play blaspheming Our Lord rather than Islam? Because Christians are seen as easy targets, well not anymore

Thirdly, on any analysis a religious service is infinitely more important than a crude and offensive form of entertainment which does not purport nor indeed could it purport to help those who watch it either spiritually or psychologically or indeed frankly in any way. The mass has claim to being able to do all these things, further as the Mass is the unbloody renewal of the sacrifice on calvary disrespecting it is never acceptable and is in fact the gravest of sins.

Fourthly, Christians are not called to tolerate blasphemy of Our Lord. Tolerance is not even mentioned as a virtue and most certainly is nowhere near an absolute virtue, one is not called to tolerate wrong or sin. If it is prudent to do so one must charitably correct someone who is in a state of sin or commiting sin, one has a duty to do so, it is in fact a a sin against charity not to. As regards blasphemy and certainly blasphemy of their kind one has an absolute duty as a catholic to protest it and even if necessary disrupt and prevent it for the honour and glory of God and the good of those who are calling Gods judgement upon themselves by allowing it to continue or participating.

😃 So would I, if I was brave enough which I’m probably not… 😊
