Opening page says: *To all the precious souls in the Roman Catholic Church who may be where I was for most of my life, believing I was on my way to heaven, but according to the Bible, destined for an eternity without Christ. May the Love Catholics have for the Lord Jesus Christ compel them to seek Him through His Word, the most trustworthy authority for knowing truth from error. May those who have been blinded by the traditions of men forsake all efforts to save themselves and come to Jesus with empty hands of faith. May God be glorified as He reveals Himself to those who seek the truth. *

Wow…
You might ask why I have this book, as a Catholic.
My quick recap-
I was dating a non-denominational girl, who I loved, and still find it hard to not having feelings for her…but its the lack of compatibility for the longrun that has ended our relationship over religion. 6 months ago, she brought up the “unevenly yolked” passage… and for 6 months, sites like Catholic Answers and other apologetic sites have been incredibly helpful to me. Yes, my life isn’t free of pain, but I truly feel empowered by knowledge, and love being a stronger Catholic today than 1.5 years ago.

So… 10 days ago we broke up. We’ve been arguing over her thoughts on Catholisim being wrong, she quote the Bible left and right, and now she has this book. A thin 180 page book about a Catholic of 37 years who walked away.

I haven’t cracked the spin yet… but I’m already not liking what the author Mike Gendron is saying.

Has anyone else come across this book?
Would anyone else like to help me disect it?
(I once hoped if she became Catholic we’d get back together…that is not the purpose anymore, though I might love to if it makes sense.) I’ve been learning so much about my faith, but not defending it against a full blown anti-catholic book isn’t going to be easy.

God Bless everyone!
James

Get a hold of Karl Keating’s “Catholocism & Fundamentalism”. I’m just finishing it up now. He dissects several anti-Catholic arguments in the book. There is likely nothing new in the book you quote, so the Keating book would be a good resource for you.

God bless,
Diego

It’s another one of those books, much like those anti-Catholic sites that have nothing new to say, and simply rehash tired arguments. Haven’t read it, but reading one anti-Catholic site very much tells you what this book is all about.

Anti Catholic Books? They are a dime a dozen. There is only one true Church. Only One. Someone has claim it, and support it. The only Church on earth that can is the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Don’t spend time thinking about these books. Love Jesus and His Church. Live it, Love them and defend your Church. You will win the debate. God Bless you.

The thrust of that book is most likely is an indication of a problem in both Protestant and Catholic churches. Our pews are filled with those hellbound. I cannot tell you how many Catholics I know who don’t follow a lick of Catholic doctrine, and Baptists who pay little attention to the lessons the church has to teach. The Protestants see the perishing in Catholic pews, the Catholics see the perishing in the Protestant pews, and we both try and save the other’s lost.

I have never run across the book. I have had the misfortune to come across Mike Gendron.
He writes an enormous lot of tommyrot, not to put too fine a point on it. He “claims to be” an ex-Catholic. I, frankly, have my doubts, because his material is so full of lies and patent errors of fact, that he would have had to be brought up in Antarctica, to be that wrong about what Catholics believe.
May I highly recommend to you, the Catholic Answers homepage?? There are some excellent articles there, written by people who have done real research, which will answer any questions he may raise.

But truthfully–and I speak as the 🙂 Friendly Neighborhood Methodist here-- I wouldn’t bother polluting either my eyes, nor my brain, with the kind of vitriolic hogswallop that MG attempts to pass off as being Catholic beliefs & teachings.
God bless.

Yeah, and I suggest the OP have the ex-girlfriend read this book, too. Fair’s fair. If the OP agreed to read the ex-girlfriend’s anti-Catholic book, then it’s only fair that she agree to read a Catholic apologetics book for him.

Gendron is a professional anti-Catholic preacher. Understand that he now makes his living with this propaganda.

Welcome To Proclaiming The Gospel Ministries with Evangelist Mike Gendron!
Proclaiming The Gospel Ministries was established in 1991 to serve and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming His death and resurrection as God’s only provision whereby sinners can be forgiven, redeemed and justified. Jesus Christ satisfied the righteous justice of God by paying the eternal punishment for sin when he died as man’s substitute. Any person who repents and receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by grace through faith, ceasing to trust in anyone or anything else for salvation, becomes a child of God and receives the gift of eternal life which can never be revoked. Since there are many who proclaim another Jesus and another gospel, we are called to expose spiritual deception so that people will not be deceived about life’s most critical question - “What must I do to be saved?”
As a **Roman Catholic** for over 30 years, I was taught from the **Catechism** that salvation was by faith plus baptism, the sacraments, good works, law keeping, the sacrifice of the Mass, indulgences, purgatory and penance. According to God's word this is another gospel that leaves Catholics with a false hope. Only when Catholics trust the Lord Jesus Christ as their all-sufficient savior will they know they are saved completely and forever!I actually took the time to refute his website's stuff on this thread. **[**From an anti-Catholic website**](http://forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=161880&highlight=Which+Jesus+will+you+trust%3F)**

It’s been a few years but yes, I’ve read the book. What caught me was when he said that he was a Catholic leading a hedonistic lifestyle and yet he claims he was a faithful Catholic???

I don’t have my book here so I can’t recall what my notes said but here are some helps for you.
On this page there is a debate between Tim Staples and Mr. Gendron.

Staples hands him his bible on a platter. You may have to sign up. But it’s fre.
Here is a link on phatmass that should help.

Phatcatholic posted a tract that is good. He is a good apologist.

In general it’s clear that Mr. Gendron did not have a clue about Catholicism when he was in the Church and twists it to no end. Sad.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, and he wants $12.00 to feed me that stuff? No thanks, I’ll give that money to John Martignoni to support his Bible Christian Society. 😃

Who want’s 12 bucks?

The link to the debate is relevant radio. The signup is free. I don’t even see the debate on Mr. Gendron’s site, which doesn’t surprize me after listening to it.

Do not bother to “dissect” this filth masquerading as a book. Burn it.

Hey jmo: I’m sort of concerned that you not spend all your time going through dialogues in your head about what you could have said to her and still could … if only…

Since it is so close to the time of your breakup, I think you might do better shifting your energies from thinking and feeling to physical activity and prayer.

This could be a good time to go to a retreat or many retreats; to train for swimming Lake Ontario or running a marathon.

Karate is great. JKA. Your life will turn into prayer, work, karate, and sleep. The pain will shift from your heart to your legs. A couple of months of that and you can look back and say “I survived.”

Give it some time to heal. And God bless you! :hug1:

No no…:rotfl: :rotfl: Gendron wants $12.00 for his book. 🙂

http://www.wykko.com/Portals/0/SiteImages/yoshukai_1.gif Yoshukai is also excellent, and we have all the respect in the world for our friends from the JKA (Japan Karate Association, right?) which in my own area is Shotokan style…one of my own favorites.

Hey Ani, wanna spar? 😉 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/50/138825718_253db1fc60_m.jpg
Pax tecum,

(Now back to your regularly scheduled thread…)

About a month back while in a book store I found Keating’s book so I wasted the sixteen dollars and some old cents and bought the book. Rubish, pure and simple rubish.

Oh, I wouldn’t know that. I got a protestant pastor to deplete his checking account toward my apologetic study.😃 Blessings
Hey, thessalonian…

[SIGN]name it and claim it, eh?[/SIGN]

chortle chortle … cough cough… a nod’s as good as a wink … nudge nudge … :rotfl:

Hey don’t laugh. OK laugh. But when Benny Hinn was broke up here in Toronto before he was famous, he says that the Lord told him to send a thousand dollars to the guy up at the Toronto Airport Revival. Meanwhile the Lord told the guy at the Toronto Airport Revival to send Benny Hinn a thousand dollars.

What bothers me most about Anti-Catholics is how they always refer to us as “Precious Roman Catholics.”

They act as if they actually care about us, and then when we call them on it, they get all humble (like David Cloud and his “I am just a simple preacher” bull) or offended (“I am just trying to help you not go to hell!” one Anti-Catholic told me).

“Precious Roman Catholics” my behind.
