London, England, Jul 21, 2010 / 08:17 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- A May response from the U.K. government to an electronic petition asking it to “disassociate” itself from the views of Pope Benedict XVI has resurfaced in the news. The petition’s author argued it was prematurely closed to help the Pope save face, but evidence shows his petition was halted like all the others.
Under the Gordon Brown government, the official website of the British prime minister, www.number10.gov.uk, allowed “e-petitions” to be submitted to give citizens a voice on an official platform. Petitions with over 500 signatures were promised responses.

This is certainly good news! 👍

I would argue that the UK already broke from the Catholic views during the 16th century Protestant Reformation. Specifically in 1534 when Henry VIII decided he was going to be his own Pope and broke away from the Church so he could marry his mistress Anne Boleyn. I know Mary I had a short reign (1553-1558) where she brought England back to Catholicism, but that ended with the reign of Elizabeth I. No need to petition for something that was already done five centuries ago.

And if they are trying to petition Catholics to leave the UK altoghter, they need to get over themselves and accept that not everyone shares their point of view.

Amen to that!

I have one response to those who create-and sign-such ‘petitions’: GET A LIFE!
