Take heart. It is good they are debating the CC. It shows they are on the road to salvation.
There are too many issues to be discussed individually, but there was a time when copies of the bible were not faithfully copied. Rome warned against the dangers of reading such eronious texts.
As for the CC persecuting Christians. Yes, they always have, particularly when those alleged Christians are heretics, spreading mistruths about the teachings of Christ.
Have you never read St Clement [the third pope after St Peter] who wrote to the church of Corinth, who dismissed their bishop, prefering to ‘go it alone, and do it their way’. He ordered them to reinstate their bishop immediately or suffer the consequences of excommunication! . If they did not approve, they would have said so. By whatever other name, the church of Corinth were still Christians.
Clement He did this while some of the Blessed Apostles were still alive. In the early church all bishops were equal. Clement clearly exercised a hierachical and judicial position above that of Bishop.
The website refered to in the first posting to this thread [above] gives the following:
They have assumed infallibility, which belongs only to God. They profess to forgive sins, which belongs only to God. They profess to open and shut heaven, which belongs only to God. They profess to be higher than all the kings of the earth. which belongs only to God.
I repeat that posting below with the bible texts which permit this:
They have assumed infallibility Matt 16:18 & 28 v 19-20 , which belongs only to God- They profess to forgive sins,Jn 20:22-23 & Js 5:16 which belongs only to God- They profess to open and shut heaven, which belongs only to God- Mat 15:19. They profess to be higher than all the kings of the earth. which belongs only to God. Mat 18:18
That is the futility of their arguements. They are criticising the Church for exercising the very ministry which Christ commanded her to do [substantiated by scripture above].
So they DO NOT KNOW THEIR BIBLE AS WELL AS THEY PROFESS.
It is unwise to try to use the sacred scriptures against the church whose scriptures they are:thumbsup:
