Yeah, it’s the St. Peter…but I looked up and down all the books from Acts 1:1 to Jude 1:25 and couldn’t find anything on his crucifixion… I don’t think it’s really mentioned in the Bible… Maybe it’s more of a kind of a legend than an actual written down event… But there is evidence that it really happened. They say he was crucified and buried on Vatican Hill by Caesar Nero, 68 A.D. … I honestly don’t know…:hmmm: but I believe it’s true… I looked that up online. You can get more info that way.

I’m sorry for double-posting, but I just have to say this. Very well said, Sixtus…
Priests lying on the floor [prostrated] in total submission to the Saviour Jesus Christ.
Any true catholic would know that they weren’t worshipping Pope JPII…
Have you considered that the devil is the arch-deceiver. Would not the devil call the ‘true church of Christ’ the ‘anti-christ’ in order to deceive people into falling away? Could this not be a grand conspiracy by evil to lead those who belong to the REAL church astray?
These people are either sinister themselves or they are very sick.
my thought exactly…
Now would it be so serious if it was mere bread and wine? I do not think so!! St Paul obviously believes in the real presence and he was an apostle of the Lord!!
No joke…
It may even be the case you are arguing with the devil and no disrespects, but he is much cleverer than us.
no offense taken. You’re right. I did say it felt like I had an argument/debate with the devil that night…

For those Catholics that are not fully into their faith yet or just coming back to the Church and don’t fully know their faith, please don’t read this website, or any anti-Catholic website. It is a sin for us Catholics to read such things that might give doubt for our own Faith.

All I have to say is;

11 Blessed are you when they insult
you and persecute you and utter
every kind of evil against you (falsely)
because of me.
12
Rejoice and be glad, for your
reward will be great in heaven. Mat 5:11-12

:amen: :clapping: :amen: :dancing: :amen: :clapping: :amen:

We should pray for whoever started those websites. :gopray: They need God’s mercy.

22 Blessed are you when people
hate you, and when they exclude and
insult you, and denounce your name
as evil on account of the Son of Man.
23 Rejoice and leap for joy on that
day! Behold, your reward will be great
in heaven.
Luke 6:22-23

They are not considered symbolic by many Protestants.

In fact, many of your new “bible” churches believe in the Real Presence of Christ because it is “plainly” in the Bible.

As well as the sacramental Protestants.
Maria G, you are correct! I have Lutheran and Methodist family members, and they do not consider the Sacraments to be “just a symbol”. I pray that these folks will be led by the Holy Spirit to discern the truth of the Catholic faith. In the meantime, I support them, because they are only part of the religion/denomination they belong to because that is how they were raised (which is  what they actually told me).

I, myself, was a lapsed Catholic, brought back by reading the Bible (Protestant KJV, given to me by a Baptist). The Holy Spirit knows what He is doing! I certainly was not doing anything to be brought to the Catholic Church. It is only due to the Holy Spirit that I have come back, definitely nothing on my own part. ❤️ :bible1:

Praise God! Alleluia!
Thank you for being open to the Holy Spirit!
I know how you feel!
God Bless you!

I too was a lapse Catholic. I “believed” in Jesus and all and I also believed in the Real Presence. But then again, did I? I know that one can believe and yet have no life. But I also know that God took care of me for many years because He had plans for me. So He kept giving me Graces. I would pray to Jesus and everything but I wouldn’t go to Mass and receive Him. After a while, the staying away just became routine and it was no big deal. … Until my brother asked me if I believed in Purgatory and I told him that I did believe. So he challenged me and asked me to look it up in the bible and to research it elsewhere. He told me that I wouldn’t find it anywhere. So I started my search and of course the Holy Spirit was working on me. :yup: … the rest is history. 👍

:blessyou: ❤️ By the way, if Protestants ask about Purgatory, since they only believe in 66 books, not 73, I have a good set of verses for you. Try 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. Since it’s in the New Testament, it’s in all Christian Bible translations.

:yup: I gave that one to him along with many other verses. I also told him about the early Christians and how they prayed for the dead. I told him about the Early Church Fathers and what they believed. He is not convinced. But I am now convinced that no matter what I say, he will not believe. He has other issues to deal with before he can be open to the Truth. I pray to God to soften his heart so he can deal with other issues. Then and only then will he be open to the Holy Spirit to move him in the right direction.

Thanks so much for the verses and God bless you. :gopray:

Do they mean the same St.Peter from the Bible? When was he crucified? Is it in the Bible? I know that a St.Peter was crucified and upside down but i never took the time to find out the whole story. Where can i find it? I’m sorry but there’s too many saints with the same names to keep track of sometimes.
No, it’s not in the Bible. Saint Peter being crucified upside down is an old tradition (He wished to be crucified as such since he felt he was unworthy to die like the Lord).

Usually, Peter’s death is thought to be during the persecution of Nero, somewhere between 64 and 68 A.D.

Another tradition also claims that Peter and Paul died on the same day.

One day I was on this other video game forum when the subject of Sin and Forgiveness came up. Some guy started saying that being a Catholic was being evil, and I ended up getting into an argument with him. I told him to actually do some research on the subject before saying anything, when he told me to do research on my own religion and gave me this site (all of his infomation came from this site):

The website in question

I can’t believe the author of this website! He is so biased and twists the bible, calling Catholics Satanists and Antichrists! This is very long, but you can just read some and see how it’s attacking us and the Pope with such lies! Those pictures they had with an upsidedown cross were probably photoshoped (and it wouldn’t be so hard to do that) and the pictures of the young priests laying on the floor was definitly not of them worshipping Pope John Paul. They were probably being ordained! Why lie so much??? I felt like I was arguing with Satan that night, him trying to get me farther away from God… Scary…

It’s quite a site…

Some of his complaints are fair enough - I’m thinking of some of the scandals; but many are…more questionable, shall we say.

What causes a lot of trouble IMO is that the CC is not of US origin; it is far older, & it has ways of doing things which owe nothing to the US. For ordinands to prostrate themselves before the Blessed Sacrament on the altar before ordination to the priesthood, is an example of this. Look at a photograph of it - & it does look like prostration to the man sitting near the altar who is about to ordain priests. As there is a tradition of thinking that this man is an opponent of Christ, or represents such opposition, it is understandable that prostration intended as adoration of the Blessed Sacrament should be seen as worship of the Pope. No photograph, or any other picture, can picture what people intend - pictures can show only their outward bodily acts, not the purpose of those acts. The conclusion: Catholics worship the Pope: which is very reasonable, yet entirely mistaken. It’s a sensational idea - sins often are - so it spreads like wild-fire. And it corresponds to the letter of certain places in the Bible. What clearer proof that the Pope is Antichrist could there be ?

So it’s understandable that Christians should be scandalised - if they have no reason to think their understanding of what a picture shows is wrong, there is no reason for them to ask themselves whether it is wrong. People can be wrong, & scandalised, & indignant, without being malicious. Are we any different ? Surely not. There is a lot of misunderstanding - but not, I think, very much bigotry. People are right to hate evil; & evil can be found where it is not. Idolatry is a terrible sin; to worship the Pope would be idolatry; if certain things, such as photography, the Pope, ordinations, & Protestants come together in a certain combination, the Pope appears to be worshipped. Conclusion: Catholicism must be evil. The only problem is, that the conclusion rests upon a number of mistakes. So Catholics are unconvinced by accusations about the evilness of Catholicism. So they can be dismissed as being blinded by the judgement of God. Result - one more issue comes between two bodies of Christians, to the weakening of their common witness to Christ.

The inverted cross is genuine - I’m told it recalls the martyrdom of St.Peter; which sounds credible, if a bit needless. I don’t like it much, precisely because it is liable to exactly the sort of misunderstanding you mention. It appears in many photographs of JP2 printed in the Osservatore Romano, which is the semi-official Vatican newspaper.

A very good observation! I always feel suspicious of the World Council of Churches because its mainline Protestants only confess the Nicene Creed with their lips, not with their hearts.

How is this known - not guessed, known - to be true ?

Also, most clergy and laity in WCC associated churches reject Trinity

See above

and inerrancy of the Bible and Tradition.

From the WCC website: wcc-coe.org/wcc/who/index-e.html

“- The Roman Catholic Church is a full member of many national ecumenical and several regional ecumenical organizations and has a regular working relationship with the WCC.”

So we may take it that the clergy of the CC reject the Blessed Trinity, & that the clergy of the Orthodox Churches, which “have been part of the WCC from its beginning”, do likewise. ##
I suggest you do not call them “Reformers” as there are more suitable words for those churches associated with the World Council of Churches, such as rebels or renegades. The WCC has refused to ex-communicate the Anglikan Church for ordaining an openly gay Bishop and blessing his “marriage” to another open gay man. This immoral act condemns every church in this Marxist-leaning body, including those Orthodox churches, who are really ethnic clubs

Where does that leave the CC, which has similar problems ? If we lay bare the wounds of others, rather than praying for their healing (Christians, pray for Christians in other Churches ? What a weird idea), then we are begging to have our own sins listed in all their details.

If that single act discredits the entire WCC, how do the (countless) deplorable things done by Catholics - clergy included - not discredit the entire CC ? As for homosexuality - that was so common among the clergy in the 11th century, according to St.Peter Damian, that he wrote an entire book to denounce it. This will shock no one except those who imagine the CC is or must be free of all human frailties. The CC is a Church not because it is any better than others, but because it is not abandoned by Christ’s grace. If He were not unfailing in mercy & patience to it, it would be utterly destroyed. He has no need of the CC, but it is nothing without Him.

His grace alone keeps it from destruction - even despite its sins. A Church strong in its own strength would be no Church at all, & Churches which are sinless in their own eyes don’t need Christ; only sinful Churches which are conscious of their sins can have their sins forgiven.

If we trash others, we have to be consistent, & ask whether we are so much better - if at all. IMHO, we are worse. The one good thing is, that God’s Goodness is greater than the wickedness of any Church. If we point to our virtues - so could Protestants, if they did not know better. Besides, any good there is in the CC is God’s gift.

So why are there never threads on the good done by Protestants ? Why is only their wrongdoing named ? ##

That website is a fine example of Satan at work. For those of us who are well versed in our Church we brush it off as the work of lunatics thinking it best to ignore such nonsense. But to thousands of others they accept it as truth. A lie by word of mouth can spread like wildfire, a lie by the internet or other media can become like an inferno. We should always be ready to proclaim the truth and expose these lies.

Some people are so ignorant when it comes to the Church and its history and meaning and everything else that has to do with us. I think people that make websites like these haven’t found the true light of God in their lives and that maybe its really the devil making them create such hateful and demeaning sites. Just my opinion!

🙂

Take heart. It is good they are debating the CC. It shows they are on the road to salvation.

There are too many issues to be discussed individually, but there was a time when copies of the bible were not faithfully copied. Rome warned against the dangers of reading such eronious texts.

As for the CC persecuting Christians. Yes, they always have, particularly when those alleged Christians are heretics, spreading mistruths about the teachings of Christ.

Have you never read St Clement [the third pope after St Peter] who wrote to the church of Corinth, who dismissed their bishop, prefering to ‘go it alone, and do it their way’. He ordered them to reinstate their bishop immediately or suffer the consequences of excommunication! . If they did not approve, they would have said so. By whatever other name, the church of Corinth were still Christians.

Clement He did this while some of the Blessed Apostles were still alive. In the early church all bishops were equal. Clement clearly exercised a hierachical and judicial position above that of Bishop.

The website refered to in the first posting to this thread [above] gives the following:
They have assumed infallibility, which belongs only to God. They profess to forgive sins, which belongs only to God. They profess to open and shut heaven, which belongs only to God. They profess to be higher than all the kings of the earth. which belongs only to God.
I repeat that posting below with the bible texts which permit this:
They have assumed infallibility Matt 16:18 & 28 v 19-20 , which belongs only to God- They profess to forgive sins,Jn 20:22-23 & Js 5:16 which belongs only to God- They profess to open and shut heaven, which belongs only to God- Mat 15:19. They profess to be higher than all the kings of the earth. which belongs only to God. Mat 18:18
That is the futility of their arguements. They are criticising the Church for exercising the very ministry which Christ commanded her to do [substantiated by scripture above].

So they DO NOT KNOW THEIR BIBLE AS WELL AS THEY PROFESS.

It is unwise to try to use the sacred scriptures against the church whose scriptures they are:thumbsup:

yea. Good point. That’s like… teaching a teacher what they taught you but with your own spin on in… and what’s sad is that other students believe you because they don’t pay attention in class…(hey, I think that was pretty good!😃 )

This guy has too much free time. His writings belie a complete lack of understanding of Church history or historical Christianity. It’s not far from snake handling, if it isn’t there already.

This should be the key to knowing that you are in the Church that Jesus Christ founded. He said John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you", and Mat 5:11 “Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven”

Only the Catholic Church is so reviled and lied about, this is proof that we have found the Church of Jesus Christ; so be of good cheer, you’re in the right place.

Yours in Christ.

I agree with Ignatius.

After all, the Lord also said, ‘If they called the Head of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of His household!’
