Sounds to me like the children were attending a Non-Denominational school, which is in fact, NOT non-denominational. It’s it’s own branch of Protestantism. This is one of those groups that grasped on the term ‘Christian’, as a pseudonym for ‘Non-Catholic Christian’.

This just goes to show how dishonest they are. And it also shows how important it is for Catholics to learn about Non-Catholic sects (I am trying to avoid calling them ‘churches’, as I believe the Catholic church is the One True Church’
The text books and curriculum used in the school were Abeka. First through Third grade do not appear to be anti Catholic. The Fifth Grade social studies text definitely is anti Catholic. It is also Creationist which is not a problem for some Catholics but is for others.

The kids are all doing fine in Public School and are doing well in their Catholic studies through the Church.

Yup. Why pay good money for the kids to lose their faith in a Catholic school, when they can lose it for free in a public school!

I wish that were a joke.

Not so strange. Most people who want to discuss religion have the overt motivation to convert people. Those who are simply curious, or whose motivation to convert is subtle and non-coercive and non-judgmental are rare. Human nature-- the tendency to believe “we are good, you are evil”. Only polite to be very cautious.

I like to steal from Bill Wilson with my attitude “Attraction rather than promotion”.
There is one other motivation: that is to learn. When one can clearly explain one’s beliefs to another, it is an indication that there is true understanding of the belief. It is so easy to memorize a teaching. It takes a great deal more effort to truly understand it. One of the best ways is to learn and understand is to be challenged by a non believer.

Of course there is always a subtle desire to have someone agree with your position. But that too is something that can be worked on and overcome.

Yeah, I can understand that. Like having been taught by my family what we believe (people of Great Lakes tribes) about the BOM, constantly being challenged by LDS, and finally getting up my courage to go ahead and approach the subject. Yes, a massive learning experience for myself.

If they hadn’t been so obnoxious  about it, I would have never done it. And, in the end, it made me more Catholic. 👍

Don’t ya’ just love unintended consequences. 😃

I have never had anyone ask me my faith. My husband always gets those kinds of people. He is a secular humanist and thinks all religion is nuts. He is finally learning to be polite to people who try to convert him. 😛

I love hearing about the religious beliefs of people but I am too polite to ask. I wait for them to ask me, but they never do. I never get a chance to answer the door when people come around to talk about their faith. I am always in the garden or on the phone when they come. My husband is the one who answers poor dear.

Who can tell why some of us who want to talk religion never get a chance to do so and others of us who want to avoid such discussion are forced by circumstances to do so. Very strange.
notself, pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit will be released in you. Once I finally submitted to “baptism” in the Holy Spirit (a Priest laying hands on me and others praying over me), I lost my fear of discudssing my faith. It now much more defines who I am. If I encounter those who are against the faith, it is a blessing as the Lord has just revealed them to be in need of prayer.

Christ’s peace be with you.

I hear you. When a Priest did that to me, I asked him to pray that I would only receive as much zeal as other people could handle. Nope. I scare people.

I am not afraid of talking about my faith. When people start a conversation about faith and I mention my mine, they twitch and change the subject. 😃

I don’t start conversations on faith because I do not belong to a proselytizing religion and I was taught by my momma that it was rude to discuss religion or politics without being invited to do so.

This is why I wander around religious boards. I like talking about religion, learning the beliefs of others and sharing my own. I find in expressing my beliefs, I strengthen my understanding of them. Even so, I don’t usually start threads but respond to the comments of others.

Well, this huge ship of Catholicism takes a while to turn around, but evangelization is one of our main purposes. We are re-learning it after nearly abandoning it for far too long. Life is short and we answer to God alone. He calls our souls back to him-maybe tonight! So, I hope that we here have been illuminating to your heart and have dispelled some of the many rumors about our faith-a lot of which we ourselves perpetuate. Lord have mercy.

notself, please have a good, long look at Catholicism, as we are absolutely the only church with an unbroken line of faith clear back to Christ. Each priest can trace his ordination to one of the twelve. And, remember: Do not join the “perfect” church. You will ruin it! If you are a sinner, you’re in great company here. You can PM any one of us any time you like. I will do my best, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to answer any and all questions.

Christ’s peace be always with you.

thats my personal policy too. but i learned that this policy is mainly advisable in the physical realm. in the virtual world just keep firing away! 😃

Thank you for your very kind words. If I were a Christian, I would still be a Catholic (perhaps orthodox) But, as it is I follow a tradition that traces its way back to 500 years before Christ; to the words and the teachings of the Buddha.

May you be well and happy, safe and free from harm.

Such anti-protestantism… *sigh…

I have to say I don’t appreciate you saying non-denominationalists are dishonest. But it’s your opinion and I can’t change it. I just hope that you meet God half way and learn to make room for us in your catholic only world… maybe then we can put down our weapons and reach the world as Christ intended.

What we need to do is stop being ‘tolerant’ and try being understanding and accepting. Anti-whatever isn’t going to stop until you try to see WHY they are the way they are. When I come up to anti-protestantism I try to look at it as if they are so passionate about their Faith and they love me so much, that they can’t help but incessently spout lies and assumptions about my Faith.

Try looking at the person spouting the ugliness about catholicism and just say: “Thank you so much for caring that much about my soul. [insert smile] I feel I am on the path God put me on and you have given me much to talk about with Him. I will let you know the outcome.”

Who knows? 🤷 That person may just shut up and it can open a dialogue to understanding rather than the usual polite smile and distaste for protestants. Which is quite obvious by the way.

Catholics and protestants need to start breaking down the walls instead of building up MORE… 👍
if a person express their negative feelings towards catholocism or protestantism, they are not expressing their passion towards their faith, I don’t see how you linked the two. true passion comes from Love, not negativity.

thank for your advice on how handle an anti catholocism remark, but I feel that if I was to say that I am just asking for tention.

my usualy smile and nod does not express my distaste for protestants, it has proven to work many times, with this method it has caused many anti catholics to invite me to their bible studies, their house for dinner, just so they can pride themselves on converting a catholic

the only way the catholics and protestants can break dwn is if the protestants can first all come to an agreement themselves before they attempt or The Catholic Church attempts to break down their walls, there are far more walls within protestantism it’s self.

I am saying that they are ‘dishonest’ because they claim to be Non-Denominational, when in fact, they ARE a demonation. In fact a denomination of Protestantism.

Are you saying that my claims are untrue, or just the you are bothered by the claims?

You may be bothered, but if it’s true, it’s true, right?

What about my world, that you know of, is ‘Catholic Only’? I don’t get it.

If there was only one church founded by Christ, and by definition, that is what makes it a ‘church’, what is untrue about my comments? Please clarify this for me.

You may call it a church, but is it a ‘true church’? Was your church, or non-church, or whatever, founded by a man, or by our Lord and Savior? And in my ‘Catholic Only’ world, He’s also your Lord and Savor, btw. Please, embrace the fullness of Him.

While you may be offended, I hope that it’s opening up your eyes to the comments that I’m making. While mine may be new words to you, yours are not new words to me.

A lot of sincere Christians (even including many Catholics, who should know better) have a hard time getting their heads around the fact that the Catholic Churches are characterized by “marks” that identify them as “true particular Churches,” and that they are not just denominations on an equal footing with the Protestant denominational “churches”.

This premise comes out of an ecclesiology that, by necessity, MUST exclude all of the marks of an identifiable and truly CATHOLIC Church.

The members of the Catholic church call all Christians to unity in the universal church. The Catholic church is frequently accused of being inflexible on so many issues. Well, it IS inflexible, since God does not change His Divine nature. Neither can the church change. There are millions of Protestants who have honestly examined the history of Catholicism, the depth and richness of the combination of Scripture and Tradition (Paul admonished to retain both), the unbroken line of succession from the twelve to today’s priests, and the soul-filling mystery of the seven Sacraments. We know they have honestly examined the faith, because they now are one with us in the faith. We welcome them with joy. There is celebration in the Kingdom when unity occurs in the church. Praise God in heaven! You are called to the fullness of faith-the fullness of truth, just open your heart and realize the it is God calling you, not us. He uses us to call, but the call remains His.

Christ’s peace be with you.

well the non denominational really try hard to be different and unique but often times they end up being no different then anyone else.
