Anti-Catholics disrupt Mass in Las Vegas

…and THIS is why I left non-denominational Evangelicalism and Protestantism. I had to deal with these kinds of people in college, both Mansfield and Evergreen when it came to Catholicism. It’s also flat-out unacceptable to call Jesus’s mother a Satan. I don’t remember Mary betraying any Christian.
  1. One guy says that he will break the statue of Mary and Jesus in the name of Jesus. Very ironic isn’t it?
  2. The one custodian in the video looking at those two like “You all need a hobby”
  3. Are we certain these guys are legitimate? They could be total trolls just like Richard and Steven from the Jesus Chatline.
  4. I would’ve been the one to yell at them and go be myself. Then again, that would probably make every saint and angel and even Jesus, God, and Mary put their hands on their face like “You had to do this? You seriously had to do this?” for the over 100,000th time.
I can understand if a good amount of people didn’t respond, they probably weren’t expecting it. Either that or they thought this was a part of Mass, or never heard what they said.

This is simply not true. There are all kind of limitations to where we can go in areas that are not owned by some government entity. There are all kind of limitations to what constitutes free speech. One cannot “take over” the Church of another group of people by virtue of greater volume and rudeness. I cannot enter a wedding in process and start singing show tunes. I cannot go to a funeral, force my way to the front and start talking about what a jerk the deceased is.
 
To the people here who think they’re harmless, what if they disrupt Mass at your parish? What if they attempt to desecrate the Eucharist? Or block anyone from receiving it?

Junk like this is only the beginning in End Times.

I don’t find these people harmless!
 
While this is not good by any means, at least we aren’t being killed for our faith in the USA unlike many. many other parts of the world. Please let us remember our brothers and sisters practicing the Christian Faith where it could or has caused them their life.
 
All I’m seeing is red after watching those videos. In fact, I’m wondering if I should be praying more to tamp my own (unrighteous?) rage then their little dog and pony show. :mad:

I’ve always maintained that there is no worse mix in a man than arrogance coupled with ignorance.
 
I’ve been thinking on this for awhile now, and I think there are a few options that parishes have in such a situation. Anyone who has seen this video/story is now partially responsible to do something if it happens in your own parish.

Probably the most effective option (in my opinion) would be for the Priest (if it’s during the Homily) to lead everyone in the Our Father, repeatedly, until they leave. If the Priest is at another point in the Liturgy, I don’t think he can actually stop, so another parishioner can lead the congregation in the prayer. (Not sure if that’s right to do, either, though. 😊 )

If there are ushers that can escort these folks out, it should be done. Other men in the parish should be willing to help with this.

Those who escort the men outside should call the local police immediately, and be willing to gently point out some of the ignorance of the claims (worshiping Mary, for example) ask these men if they are willing to discuss actual Catholic doctrine, or it they are content to misrepresent our Faith.
 
I would surmise, by their tactics, that they have little interest in any dialog other than, “we’re right and you’re wrong.” I suspect they’re more in the Fred Phelps strain - be as obnoxious as possible to get the most attention as possible.

I would think a parishioner with a cellphone camera might help, especially with a shout or two of, “get their license plate numbers for the police.” At the least, it might discourage them from that particular parish again.
 
They’re not Anti-Catholics, they’re Anti-people. Seriously, have you seen their videos of them in public where they’re spewing hateful words at people? I have found myself in situations where I’ve dealt with some “Bible” Christians (Can’t stand that name, Bible Christian just sounds self-righteous) and the most really to do is ask this…

“Would you like to pray for me?” “Would you like me to pray for you?”

I’ve learned through my devotions to Jesus Christ and Blessed Mother Mary that in these situations, one good question to ask these people is if they need a prayer or are willing to pray for others. It has shut down a couple arguments some Christians have made against Catholics because you can follow up “Would you like to pray for me?” with explaining the intercession of saints or talking more about the beauty of our Catholic Church

Of course if that doesn’t work, better ask them if they’re willing to debate their faith and interpretation of Scripture, as well as their arguments against the Catholic Church. Anyways, would a Christian defend Jesus and God? If Koosha Las Vegas clings onto their twisted faith, then ask them if they are willing to spend a good amount of time to prove their faith is right and their allegations of the Catholics and other religions are right. Of course, this is where the Catholics and other Christians join to refute those claims.
 
I was at a Mass that was disrupted. During the quiet time after Communion, a man stood up and in a loud voice started reading from the Bible:

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:5-8)

I guess he objected to us standing and praying together. Ironically, he didn’t pay attention to the reason why one is not to stand and pray in an assembly, namely, that they may be seen by men, which is, of course, exactly what that guy was doing himself. He also didn’t continue to the next few verses which would have been the Our Father, which of course we had all said out loud.

Father, bless him, just ignored the guy and continued with the Mass. Out of the corner of my eye I could see an usher asking that man to leave, which he eventually did.

It was quietly resolved, but I have to tell you I found it a bit upsetting. What did this guy expect to accomplish? Did he think we would all smack our foreheads and conclude that we should never pray unless we’re at home with the door closed?

It should never surprise us that so many a-Cs rip verses out of context when attacking our most holy faith. Don’t let 'em confuse you because the fact is that most of them know the Bible much less well than we Catholics do though they are generally better at quoting chapter and verse. We Catholics actually read it and know it at least as well and in many cases far better than they do, which at first surprised me but it has been my experience that they kinda freak out when they find themselves talking to me and that I am better at Bible than they are. 🤷

We always need to be reading the Bible for ourselves and the church offers a plenary indulgence for it so there’s no downside. I have several ready scripture sources. My big personal RSV-CE2, a smaller pocket size edition of the same, and a copy on my Kindle, so I can grab some time in the Word whenever I need/ want to.
 
We should not stoop to their level, but it’s almost tempting to go to a fundamentalist church (do they even have them?) and start shouting: “who founded your church?, who gave you the Bible?” We must pray for them.

This is heresy.
 
Why not engage them in peaceful dialogue? Wasn’t that what Vatican II was about anyway?

If they are there to preach or to say something, or have it in their heads to ‘save’ you poor damned Catholics from hell… why not engage them to it? Why ignore and act like they don’t matter just because they are not being prudent? Why not engage them instead? Give them what they sought, but not in the manner they foresaw because of their ignorance? Can’t you think of a way all this turmoil could have come together for God’s glory instead? Or do you think ignoring these people or talking smack about them brings actual GLORY TO GOD? Of course their behavior was reprehensible and annoying and even scary, but is this an excuse? Perhaps I would have done the same, but its a dissappointment to me from those who are supposed to be GOD’S PEOPLE!!!

Do you want war? If your brother comes to you and is upset with you, even if he is wrong in how he acts towards you, do you ignore them like they don’t matter, or do you seek to engage their concerns in love and bring about an understanding and reconciliation of the matter? If your Pope calls them brothers,… why do you ignore them? Just because they are badly behaved? You don’t even do that to your own children, but instead engage in a teaching moment.
