Anti-Christian sentiment in the UK and Australia

While I wouldn’t blame you for leaving, I must say that there is good reason to stay. Every Catholic who authentically lives the teachings of the Church raise Her image. Every time a person demonstrates the love of Christ he/she is changing hearts and minds. We have been given a tremendous opportunity to witness our faith, and the way we live our lives every day will affect the way dozens and maybe even hundreds of people see the Church. If the Church is interested in raising her image, and if she wants to combat the rising tide of anti-theism, we must ensure that Christianity remains a public, observable entity. The moment we let Christians cease to become a visible aspect of society is the moment that any persecution of Christians will intensify and increase in the speed of its intensification.

Live as Christ commands us and all shall be well, one way or the other.

I am curious about hearing from others, when you experience or hear about Anti-Christian stuff is that just from the media and boorish bloggers or do you have to deal in everyday life with petulant people denigrating your faith. I have worked in the high technology (telecom, defense, digital media) world among some extraordinarily bright people and all of them have been people of faith; some of them world class. Yet from the online or media world you would think that the best and brightest would be atheists. It seems like these people concentrate in the entertainment and communication media fields and think their values are normative for the rest of society.

We pray that things get better for you, hopefully in you area there are some Catholic faith groups that you can join and make things more bearable.

I agree Ricky Gervais is a fanatical Atheistic so-and-so-----but on the other hand, proclaiming that one is glad that Christopher Hitchens is dead is NOT a good way provoke nasty responses and insults from someone like Gervais. I totally disagreed with Hitchens, of course, but I don’t publicly gloat over his death, either. Not “Christian.” (Rolls eyes).

Burning a copy of the magazine with his picture in the front was just juvenile and stupid.
What you do is STATE and EXPLAIN your Faith. With Humility and Straightforwardness.
NOT engage in nasty, childish behavior like these fundamentalists did. Which then provokes nasty behavior from Gervais.

Actually, to be honest, I’m glad these agry people are NOT Catholics. Devout Catholics would never go down to this level, particularly the level of someone like Gervais.

Just my observation.

I don’t come across anti-Christian behaviour in real life. I do see a lot of that sort of thing online where people can remain anonymous though.

I both agree and disagree with this. Yes, you’re far more likely to run into folks who will say awful things on the internet – very true. But I have run into my fair share of people who are completely hostile towards Christianity in real life. I’m in my early 20s, so it may be due to my age range, but even my mother and some of the people I was raised around absolutely despised anything Christian.

I’m living in the US, by the way. There are very few places left where Christianity ISN’T attacked at this point.

The trend I noticed is that the more educated and intelligent people are less hostile towards Christianity. The ones who are hostile are usually less educated and/or hold some grudge - and it’s usually because they did not fit in with the whole Church thing. There are various reasons for it but I won’t go into them here because they’re too controversial.
