I don’t buy it. I got other explanations.

witnesses— conspiracy

complexity— plagirism from multiple conflicting sources

parallels with bible— awww— come on :rotfl:

This is about the good stuff and the bad stuff in the BOM:

And there is much more good stuff than many non-Mormons think.

Occam’s razor states that given two explanations for a phenomenon, the simplest one is usually the right one. Using this rule, we have the premise that the Book of Mormon originated without any miraculous events, but I will conclude that it is still, under those conditions, a book of considerable value.
Might the Book of Mormon be something other than what it purports to be, and yet still preserve vague recollections of America’s forgotten past?
I was very gentle with my potential Mormon readers. Since impatient nonMormon readers might give up long before I introduce my prime hypothesis, I will quote it here:
Speculation and rumors have circulated within in the white population of North America, for hundreds of years, telling of Vikings making significant explorations and leaving “lost” settlements on this continent. The Old English literary classic, Beowulf, evidently contains indications that some of the characters had been to Greenland and beyond (perhaps even the “monster,” Grendel and his mother can be seen as Indian fisherfolk driven far to the East by a fierce storm at sea). American Indian lore acknowledges just such a Scandinavian influence in pre-Columbian America. Verified Viking remains have been found along Canada’s eastern coasts and there is no reason to not to assume that some of the Scandinavian wanderers ventured farther south and farther inland, seeking not only transitory adventures, but permanent homes as well. Linguistics studies have provide evidence of an Old Norse influence upon American Indian languages of the Great Lakes/East Coast areas, and the original Lenape version of the Wallam Olam (Appendix III) contains Old Norse cognates.
Sorry, whyme, but my argument makes much more sense than that of any LDS scholars. Nothing else fits.

And, if you want a clincher, how about this:
Chronological Markers in the Book of Mormon
Compared with Outside Events

600 Voyage of St. Brendan

980 Landing on Greenland I Nephi

I would but I don’t believe they allow pasting and copying from their threads.

Too many antimormons out there in cyberland. 😉

But head on over and see for yourself: www.mormonapologetics.org

The seven evidences are on the second page heading for the third page. The original poster is Chris Smith.
I don’t see a problem with copying and pasting. The Internet is an open place. People copy and paste from wherever they like. I don’t see why the Mormon Apologetics Board should be an exception (provided of course that there is no plagiarism, or false attribution involved). So, here is what Chris Smith had posted on that board (and I think he makes a good point):
In light of Juliann’s latest driveby (this is starting to look the streets of LA, people!), I thought I would point out that “countermopologists” are not completely oblivious to possible evidences for the truth of the Restored gospel. While I see many more evidences that it isn’t, here are seven that I don’t have good answers for. (With emphasis on “good”. I have answers, just not answers that I think are really satisfying.)
  1. “If…and” conditionals in the BoM
  2. The three and the 8 witnesses, as well as the great crowd of witnesses to various other miraculous events in early Mormonism
  3. The rapid dictation of an extraordinarily complex Book of Mormon, apparently without notes
  4. The Edwards and Edwards argument for the intentionality of Book of Mormon chiasmus
  5. Mulek, son of Zedekiah
  6. Nahom
  7. The “land of Jerusalem”
Also, if you are going to give people a link, give them a link to the actual thread, rather than to the board, so they don’t have to go hunting around trying to find it. Here is the link to the thread:

Dosdog:

Excellent supporting information. 👍

Zerinus appears to be missing out on some of the conversation. 😉

Copy/Pasting is slightly different from quoting anyhow. Documented quotations are quite different from plagiarism. If you just copy something without giving your source, that’s where you’ll run into trouble.

Actually, dosdog posts websites as points of conversation. Not useful at all. Engaging the information is important. Anyone can post from a critical site and say: Look here and read this! And then head back to the doghouse. 😉

I know why my previous links did not work. I posted them from a different website that was not favorable toward mormonism. I do believe that they can block websites from being connected through pasting. 🙂

Lets see if people now can have a conversation about the apologetic thread on this forum. 👍

I know I’m not why me, but… both believe in Good and Evil for one.

But they have very different standards and definitions of good and evil.
