My heart goes out to her…I think she was born Mormon.
Jerusha, you go right ahead and be opposed to racism…Mormons are not racist. Go ahead and be opposed to ‘white privilege’ (whatever that means) or ‘prosperity theology’ or ‘hereditary resentments’ (now THAT’S ironic…) sexism (what?) homophobia, religious bigotry (snort…) and legislation against acts that do not adversely affect others.Perhaps the problem with the term “anti-Mormon” has more to do with the climate of “political correctness” in this country. People do not feel themselves free to speak out about the abuses of Mormonism because then they get accused of bigotry.
I am opposed to racism, white privilege, prosperity theology, hereditary resentments, sexism, homophobia, religious bigotry, legislation against acts that do not adversely affect others, and theocracy.
If many LDS have these characteristics, surely I have the right to examine their literature and culture to find out why???![]()

I don’t know about all that, but when we lived in Utah even most of my Mormon friends agreed that there is LDSpeak. That is the tone and tenor of any of the apostles or first presidency when they are talking on TV, especially during the April and October conferences. It’s not what they were saying, but how they said it.Christ; “Verily, verily I say unto you, do not have a short reply to any thing when you are speaking for me!”(not official scripture but something I just made up.)
It’s really strange isn’t it? I don’t think the pope does that, so why the LDS church presidents feel the need to?I don’t know about all that, but when we lived in Utah even most of my Mormon friends agreed that there is LDSpeak. My very existence upsets them, since I was born and raised in the Nauvoo area, and some of my ancestors were there in 1844 and the family never left.I think you have upset them!
lol Zundrah. My heart goes out to her…
I have been looking for (AND FOUND!) a post that I can, and do, agree on with you. As a Catholic, I can relate to Mormons on this. Most do, though I will admit that once a Mormon has had quite enough of being hit over the head with anti-rhetoric, or being suckered into a discussion that looks like it’s going to be civil—only to be blindsided by anti tactics, s/he starts to look at all criticism with a "you are an anti until you prove you aren’t’ attitude.
Catholics, I’ve noticed, tend to do the same thing after they’ve been clobbered too many times. Human beings, as a rule, follow my grandmother’s advice: if you are run over by a bulldozer once, forgive it–but don’t, for pete’s sake, STAND IN FRONT OF IT AGAIN. So–those of us who have been targeted over and over again by antis (no matter what religion we belong to) tend to treat all ‘oncomming traffic’ as being full of bulldozers–until they prove they aren’t.
That’s sad, but unfortunately we are right more often than we are wrong, all of us.
Would you mind showing me where, in the Catholic faith, there is white privilege, prosperity theology, hereditary resentments, sexism (and actually, I think I know where you might go with that but I don’t want to assume), homophobia (I don’t want to assume what you’re thinking here), and religious bigotry.Jerusha, you go right ahead and be opposed to racism…Mormons are not racist. Wait. WHAT religion do you claim? Catholic?
You do realize that you have just condemned many of the actions and beliefs of your own faith, right?
Well, never mind. You go right ahead and be against all those things. But you aren’t against those things, not really. You are using them as buzz words because you dislike Mormons and Mormonism, and so, because you hate it, you assign those things to it, whether we are guilty of them or not.
RebeccaJ NOOOO!lol Zundrah.
Yes, I was raised LDS. I read the book of mormon as a teen. Also studied it in LDS seminary and sunday school.
Oh yeah, I’ve been to this a couple of times too!![]()

Zundrah, by the time I was 23 I did not consider myself Mormon, and considered Joseph Smith to be a BS’er (still do). I was an atheist for 20 years or so. I converted to Catholicism from atheism. And yes, I am completely Catholic. :extrahappy:I don’t know about “normal” though.RebeccaJ NOOOO!Don’t go there again! Are you fully normal now? By that I mean are you completely catholic and not mormon now? I hope so… Do you not believe in joseph smith…? …you scared me…

Whatever normal is.:takeoff: However, as a Catholic I feel more normal than I ever have. At peace, with God, and my past. I can say, I am home.I have to agree there, you’re certainly not normal!

But at least you are no longer mormon! Praise the Lord RebeccaJ!![]()

I thank God often for leading me to Him. It is good that you did not stay an atheist.P.S. I was an athiest a year and a half ago! Athiest all my life! But not any more!![]()

:hug1: Jesus led me to Him as well. I hope you are going to Mass. Jesus has so much more to give you, in the Eucharist, His Body and Blood. Healing to give you, in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.Well let’s just say that I don’t think christ wanted me to deny him any more!
Ministers gave me a gentle nudge, I entered the church, christ held my hand, then God embraced me and now I am with them all becasue of christ’s blessed and invaluable gift (the holy spirit) now the trinity shall be with me always, me within it and also with you!
“No one gets to the father except through me.” ( some where in the gospelcan’t find it )
I found christ and he showed me his father…

There is such a thing as “Mormonspeak.” Orson Scott Card wrote a dictionary of it. Very funny stuff. It’s really strange isn’t it? I don’t think the pope does that, so why the LDS church presidents feel the need to?I think it is a way of trying to sound authentic or something like that…
that explains a great deal, jerusha. My very existence upsets them, since I was born and raised in the Nauvoo area, and some of my ancestors were there in 1844 and the family never left.![]()
