Anti-Mormons

Go ahead and be opposed to ‘white privilege’ (whatever that means) or ‘prosperity theology’ or ‘hereditary resentments’ (now THAT’S ironic…) sexism (what?) homophobia, religious bigotry (snort…) and legislation against acts that do not adversely affect others.

You do realize that you have just condemned many of the actions and beliefs of your own faith, right?

Well, never mind. You go right ahead and be against all those things. But you aren’t against those things, not really. You are using them as buzz words because you dislike Mormons and Mormonism, and so, because you hate it, you assign those things to it, whether we are guilty of them or not.

I don’t know about all that, but when we lived in Utah even most of my Mormon friends agreed that there is LDSpeak. That is the tone and tenor of any of the apostles or first presidency when they are talking on TV, especially during the April and October conferences. It’s not what they were saying, but how they said it.

It’s really strange isn’t it? I don’t think the pope does that, so why the LDS church presidents feel the need to? 🤷 I think it is a way of trying to sound authentic or something like that…

I have been looking for (AND FOUND!) a post that I can, and do, agree on with you. As a Catholic, I can relate to Mormons on this.

Would you mind showing me where, in the Catholic faith, there is white privilege, prosperity theology, hereditary resentments, sexism (and actually, I think I know where you might go with that but I don’t want to assume), homophobia (I don’t want to assume what you’re thinking here), and religious bigotry.

I request that when you do so, please show me these things in the Catechism of the Catholic church and in the bible, since that is the source for Catholic Church teachings. I will give you two easy links to start you out:

- Catechism of the Catholic church
- New American Bible

We’ll start there. I am honestly curious as to where the Catholic church teaches these things.

Yes, I was raised LDS. I read the book of mormon as a teen. Also studied it in LDS seminary and sunday school.

Zundrah, by the time I was 23 I did not consider myself Mormon, and considered Joseph Smith to be a BS’er (still do). I was an atheist for 20 years or so. I converted to Catholicism from atheism. And yes, I am completely Catholic. :extrahappy:I don’t know about “normal” though. 😛

Whatever normal is.:takeoff: However, as a Catholic I feel more normal than I ever have. At peace, with God, and my past. I can say, I am home.

😛 Well let’s just say that I don’t think christ wanted me to deny him any more!

Ministers gave me a gentle nudge, I entered the church, christ held my hand, then God embraced me and now I am with them all becasue of christ’s blessed and invaluable gift (the holy spirit) now the trinity shall be with me always, me within it and also with you! 😃

“No one gets to the father except through me.” ( some where in the gospel 😊 can’t find it )

I found christ and he showed me his father…

There is such a thing as “Mormonspeak.” Orson Scott Card wrote a dictionary of it. Very funny stuff.

What you are talking about is simple respect, though…and are you telling me that when the Pope speaks, you don’t pay attention? Does he not speak, upon occasion, “infallibly?”

Don’t you kiss his ring…or that of the Cardinals to show respect for the office which they hold? Doesn’t a statement by the Pope mean more to you than a statement by your next door neighbor?

Do you not listen to your leaders with a little bit more attention than you pay, say…me?

that explains a great deal, jerusha.

I remember going to Nauvoo…my parents and I found a lovely little motel fairly close to the town; we were going to go to the pageant the following day. We had confirmed reservations for over a month for downstairs handicapped rooms (my parents are in their 80’s) but when we arrived, just before the keys were handed to us, the woman at the desk asked us why we were there. We said that we had come from California to see the pageant.

The desk clerk suddenly looked like she had bitten a sour lemon, looked at the keys she was about to hand us, and then told us, oh dear, it seems as if she was double booked. She COULD put us up in one room (not the two originally reserved and PAID FOR) upstairs, smoking, but she wouldn’t be able to provide us lodging for the two nights after that. We didn’t have a choice; we had to take the upstairs smoking single room with one double bed (I slept in the van) and had to try to find other lodging. Impossible, as you might imagine; the Nauvoo pageant was fairly well attended.

We couldn’t figure it out…and then we saw “Maze of mormonism” on the tables, pamphlets all over every where…and we saw the same sort of thing in almost every motel we tried after that.

I believe that there is a reason that motel is no longer on the AAA list. I’ll bet you fit right in.

You see, dear, the whole point is that the good Mormons LEFT the area. There was this Extermination Order that made it a little difficult for people who identified themselves as LDS to go into the state of Missourri–you understand the geography, right?
